Saturday Night Edition
November 30th 2019

FSH: Quick Takes

The Seahawks rookie wide receiver DK Metcalf has not seen fewer than 5 targets in each of his games since week 6 and has 25 total in his last three starts. His numbers have been modest to quiet his past two starts, but he could be in line to bounce back on Monday night against the Vikings.

Over the past four weeks, the Vikings secondary has been toasted allowing the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing receivers, including 727 receiving yards (3rd most), and four receiving touchdowns. On the season, the Vikings defense has allowed the 3rd most fantasy points to opposing wideouts, including 15 touchdowns (tied for 3rd most).

This could be just the matchup Metcalf needs to repeat his breakout performance from week 9, when he turned in a line of 6/123/1.

FSH: Quick Takes

If you were quick to the Waiver Wire draw last week and lucky enough to pick up Colts running back Johnathan Williams, then you should thinking start him this Sunday. In his past two games, Williams has carried the rock 39 times and hauled in four receptions for a total of 268 yards (220 rushing/48 receiving).

This week Williams will get a savory matchup against a struggling Titans defense. Over the past four weeks, the Titans defense has allowed the 5th most fantasy points to opposing running backs, including four rushing touchdowns (4th most over the four week span), and 4.5 yards per carry.

Williams may be on a limited clock, but he’ll get the start at least one more week with starter Marlon Mack not expected to make his return until week 14.

Week 12: Quick Take

RB-Nick Chubb, Browns
Over his past five games, Browns running back Nick Chubb has had at least 20 carries, averaging nearly 24 touches per game. The Browns ball carrier has seen a minimum of 21 touches and eclipsed 100 yards rushing in three of the five contests. His per game average over this span is 105.1 yards rushing (526 total rushing yards) with two rushing scores. Chubb has also been active in the passing game with 12 receptions for 55 receiving yards on 17 targets. This week Chubb faces a Dolphins defense that allows 148.3 yards rushing per game (31st in the league), so he’ll have a great chance to post solid numbers.

Week 12: Armed and Dangerous

As I take a look at the Week 12 matchups for Sunday, there are a couple of quarterbacks that I like the matchup, their current trend, and potential outcome. So let’s start with the ole, West coast team traveling back east to play the early game…

Sam Darnold vs. Raiders
This is just a gut feeling based on the recent play of Darnold and the Jets offense. Darnold slots in as the #25 Fantasy QB through 11 weeks, but he has scored over 21 fantasy points in each of his last two starts, throwing for 525 passing yards, 6 touchdowns (5 pass, 1 rush), and 63.3 passing completion. Darnold has been playing well and I’m counting on a little history here with the Raiders having to travel east and play early. One thing to point out, as good as the Raiders defense has looked the past couple of weeks; their two opposing quarterbacks, Bengals rookie Ryan Finley and the Chargers turnover machine Philip Rivers (7 interceptions in his last two starts).

Matt Ryan vs Buccaneers
Whenever you get Matty-Ice at home, you have to like the prospects. Add that this week the Falcons will host the Bucs and Ryan because an instant start’em. Ryan has yet to face the Bucs this season, but in his two starts last season, he averaged nearly 28 fantasy points per game. The Bucs defense has been awful against the pass this season, allowing 290.9 yards passing (31st) and 25 touchdowns (31st). Ryan’s outlook on Sunday is pretty good.

Baker Mayfield vs Dolphins
As of late the Phins have been a tough out for teams, but this has to be the week Mayfield and company on offense breakout, right? Mayfield comes in as the #22 Fantasy quarterback and he’ll face the 20th ranked pass defense that has allowed 23 passing touchdowns (29th) and 42 pass plays of 20+ yards (28th). The Phins have only recorded 13 sacks in 11 games (tied for fewest in the league). With weapons like OBJ, Landry, Chubb, and Hunt, give Mayfield time and the combination should result in big plays and a lot of fantasy points. We hope.

A couple of risky plays that make me nervous, starts with the big matchup in Foxboro….

Tom Brady vs Cowboys
And while the Patriots have been very good on defense this season, I am not expecting a shutout tomorrow against the Cowboys. The Boys have too many weapons and will manage at least a couple of scores. Brady and the Patriots offense have been out of sync the past couple of weeks and that makes me nervous. Belichick is so creative on the defensive end, I can see the defense accounting for a score or two, and not needing a lot from Brady. Tom Brady is currently the #11 Fantasy QB through 11 weeks, but he has just one passing touchdown in his last two games and has not passed for more than 300 yards in his last four starts.

Sunday Morning Gametime

Numbers, Numbers, Numbers

The Bills Quarterback Josh Allen has a prime road matchup against the Dolphins, ranked 26th against opposing QBs, according to FanDuel. Allen has scored at least 17 fantasy points over his last five games and has a great chance to keep this trend going.

The Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs has been solid this season and will get the 29th ranked defense versus the running back in the Bengals. In his last two games Jacobs has totaled over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns. He has a very good opportunity to do both today.

The Falcons will have a new face starting in their backfield today with running back Brian Hill taking over ball-carrying duties for the injured Devonta Freeman out. Hill logged 20 carries last week replacing the injured Freeman and should see similar work today against the shaky Panthers run defense (ranked 30th against opposing running backs). Hill could be a nice sneaky play in DFS today.

The Texans top receiving target DeAndre Hopkins (PPR Fantasy WR7) has not been big this season, but he has been steady. Over his past three games Hopkins has logged at least 15 fantasy points (according to FanDuel) with at least 8 receptions. Hopkins will get the Ravens secondary (ranked 17th versus opposing wide receivers, according to FD) today and have a chance at keeping those steady numbers rolling.

Despite what should be a difficult road matchup against the Vikings today, the Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton (PPR Fantasy WR14) has a chance to continue his solid 2019 campaign today facing the 27th ranked defense versus wide receivers. Sutton has had at least 6 targets in every game this season and has scored in double digit fantasy points in 7 straight games.

Week 11: DSF Saturday “Favorite Stack”

If you play DFS like I do and have played as long as I have, then you too are familiar with and utilize the “Stack” strategy. Every week, you ‘ll find defenses and running back combos that make sense or quarterbacks and receivers that work well, so looking ahead to week 11, this is my favorite “Double” stack.

The Saints will travel to Tampa this week and although the matchup is outdoors, fI am trusting in quarterback Drew Brees and head coach Sean Payton. The Saints are coming off a poor week 10 performance at home and nothing like a week 11 matchup against the Bucs (ranked last against the pass) to right the ship. The Bucs defense has also allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, including 235 completions (5th most allowed), and 22 passing touchdowns (3rd most allowed). With those kind of numbers, Brees should bounce back strong.

Along with a shaky Bucs defense, Brees will also have the good fortune of throwing passes to wide receiver Michael Thomas, Fantasy WR3. Thomas leads all receivers this season with 103 targets, 86 receptions, and 1,027 receiving yards. This week Thomas will look to improve his numbers against the Bucs secondary that has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing receivers, including 140 receptions (4th most allowed), 1,894 receiving yards (2nd most allowed), and 15 receiving touchdowns (tied for the most allowed).

The third part of my stack, is the Saints tight end Jared Cook (Fantasy TE24), who is coming off his most productive game in Week 10, with 6 receptions, 74 yards receiving, off 10 targets (all season highs). For Cook, he should have a great opportunity to continue his productive trend facing a Bucs defense that has allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing tight ends, including 695 receiving yards (2nd most allowed) and six touchdowns (tied for 3rd most allowed).

Depending on the site and salary cap room, running back Alvin Kamara, could be a consideration as part of this stack. Even though the Bucs have played well against the run, Kamara should be heavily involved in not only the run game, but he’ll also be an integral part of the passing game. I am loving this Stack for Week 11.

DFS Saturday

It’s almost Sunday of NFL Week 10, and there are a lot of good matchups and ways to go with when building your lineups. The first place I am starting has to be the prime Fantasy matchup between the Buccaneers and the Cardinals; the over-under is set at 54 points.

Both defenses rank near the bottom against the pass (Ari-29th, TB-32nd), so there should be and could be a plethora of points on Sunday.

Players of interest for those that may be considering, Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston will face a Cardinals defense that allows the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, including 24 touchdowns (tied for most in the league).

Getting the start this week, the Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones III will get a crack at the Cardinals defense that has allowed the 8th most rushing yards to opposing running backs, including 4.4 yards per carry.

On the other side, this may be a great week for Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who will face the Bucs defense that allows the 3rd most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, including 19 touchdowns (2nd most in the league).

What would also make a great stack and connection with Murray is wide receiver Christian Kirk. The Buccaneers defense allows the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.

There are of course no guarantees when playing DFS, but I like my chances with these matchups on Sunday.

Week 9 Fantasy Notes

By the Numbers

The Vikings Quarterback, Kirk Cousins is currently the Fantasy QB13, through 8 weeks, but over the past several weeks he’s been a little bit better. Over the past 4 weeks, Cousins has completed 78.4 percent of his passes (1st in the NFL), passed for 1,262 yards (3rd in the NFL), averaged 10.9 yards per pass (leads the NFL), all the while throwing 10 touchdowns (tied for most) with only one pick. In this span, Cousins is the Fantasy QB5, heading into a week 9 matchup against the Chiefs.

Quietly, through 8 weeks, the Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette is the Fantasy RB5. Fournette is averaging 98.9 rushing and another 32.9 yards receiving per game. In 8 weeks, Fournette has toted the rock 163 times (leads NFL) and caught 35 passes (ranks 4th in the league). With just one rushing touchdown in 8 games, Fournette is still the Fantasy RB5; a big second half of the season sounds likely.

It has been a down season, in a huge way for the Broncos offense, but one bright spot has been, second year wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Through 8 weeks, the Broncos pass catcher is the Fantasy WR13, with 39 receptions (ranks 13th among receivers), 636 yards receiving (ranks 8th among receivers), and 3 receiving touchdowns. His 10.6 yards per target ranks 10th among receivers with a minimum of 24 target. Sutton has been solid and consistent in the first half of the season, but with the pending quarterback change coming, it will be interesting to see how he performs.

Two surprises this season, but no longer secrets are tight end Darren Waller (Raiders) and Mark Andrews (Ravens). Out of the gate these two have made their names this season and by this time, we’ve all heard of them, so here’s what they are doing. In 7 games this season Waller is the fantasy TE3 and Andrews is the Fantasy TE6. Waller’s 46 receptions ranks 2nd among tight ends, while Andrews is 7th with 36 receptions. Andrews ranks 5th in the league among tight ends with 449 yards receiving, with Waller coming in at 4th with 496 receiving yards. These two are clearly top tight ends and should be strong going forward in the second half of the season.

Week 8: Three Amigos

In several of my season long redraft leagues, I have to start minimum, three wide receivers, not including any flex spots. Looking ahead to Sunday’s matchup, Week 8, here are my “Three Amigos” (WRS) that I am rolling with;

WR-Chris Godwin, Buccaneers; The Bucs have a tough road matchup this week against a Titans defense that allows the 5th fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Nonetheless, the Bucs receiver Godwin (Fantasy WR2) has been nothing less than stellar this season, leading all fantasy receivers in fantasy points per game through his first six games. Godwin is averaging 7.16 receptions, 110.33 receiving yards, with 6 touchdowns (leads league), on 9 targets per game. Here are some more numbers to digest; Godwin is averaging 12.3 yards per target (3rd most minimum 20 targets) and 79.6 catch efficiency (3rd best, minimum 20 targets). He’s a strong play every week.

WR-Robert Woods, Rams; The Rams will face the Bengals on Sunday and while the overall numbers don’t seem to favor the passing game, digging a little deeper, I still like Woods. Looking at the matchup, the Bengals secondary has been vulnerable at times and overall their defense ranks last in the league. Woods (fantasy WR21) ranks second on the team averaging more than 8 targets per game and his 36 receptions ranks 13th in the league among wide receivers. After totaling 7 touchdowns in 2018, Woods has just one through seven games this season; Sunday feels like a touchdown game.

WR-DK Metcalf, Seahawks; The Seahawks rookie receiver has been seeing a steady every week, but has yet to have that breakout game. This week the Metcalf (fantasy WR39) will line up against a Falcons defense that has allowed the 4th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, including the 2nd most receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns. Metcalf is playing 76 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and ranks second on the team with 20 receptions and 389 receiving yards. Week 8 could be his breakout game.

Fantasy Football Week 8

Eight weeks into fantasy football and now's the time to make bold moves, smart decisions, and decisive choices to secure your playoff slot or turn your season around. Now that we are just beyond the mid-point, these are a couple of moves I am making this week in my season-long redraft leagues.

“Pick-of-the-litter"

WR-Kenny Stills, Texans; With starting wide receiver Will Fuller (knee) out for a couple of games, Kenny Stills should slide into a starting role. Stills joined the team just before the start of the regular season, and in the short time has already shown a connection with quarterback Deshaun Watson. Injuries have slowed down Stills 2019 campaign, but he’s healthy and should be ready to go to fill in nicely for Fuller. Stills is coming off injury and in his first game back posted a 4-catch, 105 receiving yard effort on 5 targets. With Fuller sidelined, he should see a significant boost in targets and production over the coming weeks.

Dumpster-ville

RB-Duke Johnson, Texans; For fantasy football purposes only, I have dropped running back Duke Johnson (Fantasy RB36). With Carlos Hyde cemented as the team’s primary early down back, Johnson is not seeing enough work to hold onto, let alone insert into a lineup. In PPR scoring (1pt per reception), since week 2 his games are as follows; 3.1, 2.4, 7.8, 6.7, 11.4, and 5.6 (6.2 average). With this kind of production, he’s a low value flex at best, and probably not worth holding on limited roster sizes.

Week 7: Fantasy Football Notes

Numbers to Know

The Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (Fantasy WR3) is averaging 11.5 targets and 7.5 receptions per contest this season. His 69 targets leads the league and his 45 receptions rank 2nd through six weeks.

Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette (Fantasy RB9) is averaging more than 19 carries per contest this season and he has also added another 26 receptions on 36 targets; his 36 targets ranks 7th amongst running backs in 2019.

Through six games, the Bengals defense ranks last in fantasy versus opposing running backs, allowing the most fantasy points. The Bengals have also allowed the 3rd most receptions to opposing ball carriers, as well as the most rushing yards; week 7 opponent, Ja

The Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (Fantasy WR15) ranks 5th this season with 56 targets in six games. His 402 receiving yards ranks 20th among receives, but he also has 40 receptions good enough for (tied) 4th best.

The Giants 2019 run defense through six games has allowed the 6th most rushing yards and the 3rd most receiving yards to opposing running backs; week 7 opponent, Arizona.

David Johnson (Fantasy RB5) is second on the team (Cardinals) in receiving this season through six weeks with 30 receptions on 41 targets. His 41 targets ranks 3rd among running backs and his 30 snags ranks 5th. Johnson has also added 298 rushing yards and five total touchdowns (2 rushing, 3 receiving).

The Eagles tight end Zach Ertz has been quiet this season, but his 33 receptions and 366 receiving yards both rank 5th among tight ends. Even with modest numbers, Ertz is being heavily targeted this season; his 54 targets ranks second for tight ends and tied for 9th overall.

The Cowboys have allowed the 9th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season. Through six weeks, the Boys have also allowed the 5th most receptions and the 6th most receiving yards to opposing tight ends; week 7 opponent, Eagles.

All rankings based on PPR scoring, according to Fantasy Data.

Week 7 Fantasy Fixx

Week 7 Fantasy Football

Start
QB-Daniel Jones, NYG; The Giants rookie quarterback has shown flashes this season and on sunday facing the Cardinals he could shine even more. The Cardinals defense is ranked 30th against opposing quarterbacks, allowing 296 yards passing per game and 16 passing touchdowns. Jones will have his starting tailback and tight end back this week, so he should be all systems go; start him.

Sit
QB-Teddy Bridgewater, NO; While the Saints back-up quarterback has been great in the win-loss column since taking over for the injured Drew Brees, Bridgewater will have some tough sledding ahead of him this Sunday against a stout Bears defense. The Bears’ defense ranks 5th against opposing quarterbacks, having allowed just four passing touchdowns (3rd fewest). Bridgewater is a tough start, look for better options.

Start
RB-Tevin Coleman, SF; The Niners have been flexing their ground game muscle all season, ranked 2nd in the league averaging nearly 180 yards per contest with 8 rushing touchdowns this season. Coleman should see his fare share of work this week and could get some goal line opportunities against a 28th ranked Redskins run defense. Coleman’s a safe play this week, start him.

Sit
RB-Adrian Peterson, WAS; After recording his first 100-yard rushing game of the season last week with 118 yards on the ground against the Dolphins, Peterson could struggle to find yards this week against the Niners. The Redskins offense ranks 28th overall and the Niners defense ranks 2nd; the numbers suggest a long day for Peterson and the Washington offense. Avoid Peterson and start

Start
WR-John Brown, Buf; The Bills leading receiver has been steady this season, but far from great. This week with Phins in town with their 26th ranked pass defense, Brown has a chance to reach paydirt and shine. The Dolphins have allowed 9 receiving touchdowns to opposing receivers this season; Brown is a safe play, insert him in your lineup.

FSH NOTEBOOK: DAVID'S DAILY DIGEST

Sunday Morning Edition
October 13th, 2019

Sunday Morning Gametime

Start
QB-Case Keenum, WAS; Even though it’s a road test, Keenum will have one of his better matchups of the season, facing a Dolphins defense that allows the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. If you need help at the QB spot, he’s a safe stream option today.

Sit
RB-Jordan Howard, PHI; The Eagles ball carrier faces a stiff matchup today against the Vikings 9th ranked run defense. The Vikings are only allowing 3.6 yards per carry and less than 90 yards total this season. Avoid Howard and look for safer options today.

Start
RB-Dalvin Cook, MIN; Despite the tough ground test today against the Eagles number one ranked run defense, Cook (No.3 fantasy running back) is getting utilized plenty in the pass game; 21 receptions and 200 receiving yards. The Eagles run defense has allowed 34 receptions (6th most) and 257 receiving yards (8th most) to opposing running backs. Cooks volume (averaging 22.6 touches per game) will make him a safe play today.

Sit
WR-AJ Brown, TEN; The Titans receiver is coming off a quiet two catch effort in Week 5, but fantasy owners shouldn’t expect Brown to bounce back this week facing the league’s number 5 ranked pass defense. Avoid Brown today.

Start
WR-Terry McLaurin, WAS; With Case Keenum under center and the Dolphins secondary on the slate, a healthy McLaurin could be looking at big Sunday. Dolphins allow the 9th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers and McLaurin has been one of Keenum’s best weapons when on the field. McLaurin could be a boom play today.

Sit
TE-Jason Witten, DAL; Even with few viable options at the TE position, Witten is likely one to avoid this week. Witten has become more of a touchdown dependent option and faces a Jets defense this week that allows the 6th fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends.

Saturday Late Night Edition

DSF Saturday
[Week 6: My Lineup Faves]

QB-DeShaun Watson ($6,700); Over the last three weeks, Watson is the Number 2 fantasy quarterback in scoring with 937 yards passing (ranks 5th), 8 passing touchdowns (ranks 2nd), 74% completions (ranks 4th), and 129.46 passer rating (ranks 1st). Watson will face a Chiefs defense that ranks 25th in total defense and could provide plenty of opportunity for another big Sunday.

RB-Mark Ingram II ($6,600); The Ravens running back is the No. 9 fantasy running back (PPR scoring) and is coming off back-to-back modest games in weeks 4 & 5. This Sunday Ingram will get his crack at a Bengals defense that has allowed the most fantasy points to opposing running backs over the past four weeks. He has a great chance to rebound in a big way.

RB-Chris Thompson ($5,000); The Redskins ball carrier ranks as the No. 23 fantasy running back (PPR scoring) through 5 weeks. Thompson ranks 4th among running backs with 35 targets, 6th with 25 receptions, and 3rd with 268 yards receiving. While the Dolphins have not surrendered a lot in the passing game to opposing running backs over the course of the season, in week 4 they were torched by the Chargers for 97 yards receiving and two scores.

WR-DeAndre Hopkins ($7,400); Hopkins is due and at his current salary, he plays as a nice stack with Watson. The Chiefs defense has been awful against the run this season, which could open some play action and create some opportunities for Hopkins to do some downfield damage. Hopkins 44 targets through 5 games ranks tied for 7th; he should see plenty of opportunity on Sunday.

WR-Terry McLaurin ($6,000); The Redskins-Dolphins matchup should showcase little defense and open up some potential big play opportunities for both sides. With the return of Case Keenum under center, McLaurin will have a great chance to exploit a Dolphins defense that has allowed the 9th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers through five games.

WR-Preston Williams ($4,100); In the same matchup, the Dolphins passing game could finally get off the ground this week facing a Redskins defense that has allowed the 3rd most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season. Williams the No. 58 fantasy receiver this season (PPR scoring) has been a target hog leading the team with 30; this Sunday he’s got a shot to move up the ranks.

TE-Zach Ertz ($5,400); The Vikings defense has been solid this season against the pass, ranked 6th this season, but if there is a chink in the armor; they have allowed the 13th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Ertz lead the team in targets with 45 and ranks 2nd in the league (among TEs). He’ll be a focal point in the pass game on Sunday.

Flex-Joe Mixon ($5,500); The Bengals running back will face a Ravens defense that has allowed the 5th most fantasy points to opposing running backs. At his current salary, Mixon is almost a must play.

DST-Redskins ($3,200); The Redskins are a value play, facing a turnover prone Dolphins offense this week.

Week 6: Four Horsemen

QB-Gardner Minshew, JAX: The Jaguars quarterback has been a solid fantasy starter over the past 3 weeks, ranking as the No.8 fantasy QB. This week Minshew mania storms the field in Jacksonville to take on the Saints and a defense that has allowed the 6th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks over the past 4 weeks. In his last three starts Minshew has passed for 791 yards, 6 touchdowns, and zero picks. He’s a solid play for Week 6, start him!

RB-Le’Veon Bell, NYJ: The Jets running has been a high volume usage monster through four games this season, totalling 98 touches. Bell currently ranks as the No.17 fantasy RB and this week takes on a Dallas defense that has allowed the 10th most fantasy points to opposing running backs over the past 4 weeks. Bell has 27 receptions (ranks 3rd among RBs through 5 weeks) and has 166 receiving yards (ranks 9th). The Cowboys have allowed 37 receptions to opposing running backs, ranks tied for the 3rd most allowed through five weeks, so Bell owners can expect a busy Sunday for Jets ball carrier; start him.

WR-Auden Tate, CIN: Cincinnati’s strolls into Baltimore on Sunday and Auden Tate will start as the Bengals No.2 receiver. With Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd likely being the focus of the Ravens defense, Tate figures to be the beneficiary. Over the past 4 weeks, the Ravens defense has allowed the 4th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, including 873 receiving yards (3rd most). Tate is a bit of risky play, but the numbers show, he has upside potential play in this matchup; he’s my start.

TE-Greg Olsen, CAR: The Buccaneers defense has allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing tight ends over the past 4 weeks, including 29 receptions and 391 receiving yards (most allowed). This Sunday Panthers tight end Greg Olsen, the No. 9 fantasy TE through 5 weeks will look to rebound after getting shutout in Week 5 and only totaling 2 receptions over his past two games. In week 2, Olsen finished with 6 receptions for 110 yards receiving against the same Bucs defense he will see on Sunday; start him.
