FSH: THE ATL REPORT
THIS WEEK AROUND THE LEAGUE
NATIONAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE
ARIZONA
The Cardinals 3rd ranked passing offense (282 yds/game) will take the field Sunday against the Cowboys once again without WR Anquan Boldin (head). Boldin is out while recovering from his sinus fracture surgery.
ATLANTA
The Falcons WR Roddy White has emerged as one of the leagues top wide outs with 26 receptions for 454 yards (ranks 3rd) and 2 touchdowns this season.
CAROLINA
The Panthers two starting receivers, Muhsin Muhammad (25 receptions) and Steve Smith (16 receptions) both rank in the top 30 in yards receiving this season.
CHICAGO
The Bears 2008 defense may not quite resemble the 85' Monsters of the Midway, but this season they boast the NFL's 4th ranked run defense only allowing 74.2 yards per game.
DALLAS
The Cowboys tight end Jason Witten not only ranks at the top of all receiving tight ends in the NL, but his 35 receptions ranks 2nd in the league to only Reggie Bush's 38 catches.
DETROIT
The Lions are the leagues worst ranked defense in total yards, allowing more than 425 yards per game. Their 147 points allowed this season is also a league worst tied with St.Louis.
GREEN BAY
The Packers WR Greg Jennings is leading the NFL with 569 receiving yards this season and his 29 receptions ranks him 5th among all receivers.
MINNESOTA
The Vikings are leading the NFC in rushing defense, allowing a mere 68 yards on the ground per game. Their 2.8 yards per carry allowed is also tied for league best.
NEW ORLEANS
The Saints, thanks in large part the terrific season quarterback Drew Brees is having are the top ranked passing offense in the NFL with an average of 325.8 yards per game. Brees has thrown for 1,673 yards and is on pace to pass for 5,300 yards (an NFL record).
NEW YORK GIANTS
What is there not to like about the G-men this season. Led by "little brother", Eli Manning the offense is ranked 1st in yards, rushing, and scoring. On the other side of the ball, the defense is ranked 3rd overall and 2nd in points allowed!
PHILADELPHIA
The Eagles and quarterback Donovan will be missing a few of their weapons on Sunday; RB Brian Westbrook (ribs) is listed as OUT and WR Reggie Brown (groin) will be OUT. Having practiced all week, there is a shot WR Kevin Curtis could play.
ST. LOUIS
The Rams return from the Bye with quarterback Marc Bulger returning as the starter. They will be without their starting tight end Randy McMichael, but WR Drew Bennett shed the boot although there's no chance he'll play this week, he could be back soon. The rookie Donnie Avery is expected to continue starting with Torry Holt.
SAN FRANCISCO
So far the Martz era is not off to a flying start with the Niners pass offense only ranked 18th. The Niners are averaging less than 200 yard passing per game and while JT O'Sullivan has 7 touchdown passes, he's also thrown 6 picks this season.
SEATTLE
The Seahawks are hurting from injuries this season. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck did not practice on Friday and is not expected to start on Sunday. Although it is a slim chance, the word is Hasselbeck will be a game time decision. If he sits, back up Charlie Frye would start.
TAMPA BAY
The Buccaneers will experience a change at quarterback once again. Jon Gruden will turn to quarterback Jeff Garcia to help jump start the Bucs offense that struggled to score points last week.
WASHINGTON
The Redskins running back Clinton Portis has been En fuego this season rushing for 514 yards this season. The Redskins running back is on pace to rush for more than 1600 yards this season.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE
BALTIMORE
The Ravens are the NFL's number one ranked defense allowing only 193 yards of offense each week. As a unit the defense has forced 8 turnovers and recorded 9 sacks in four games.
BUFFALO
The Bills are 4-1 and off to their best start since 1992. With the bye week, quarterback Trent Edwards will have the extra week of rest. No word is Edwards seems to be fine and the team is hopeful the 13 days of rest will be enough for him to return to the lineup.
CINCINNATI
The Bengals will go with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatric on Sunday, as starter Carson Palmer is sidelined with a sore elbow. There is word that Palmer could play, but will definitely not start.
CLEVELAND
The Cleveland Brown's offense has been stagnate this season. The pass game is ranked with the bottom feeders at 32nd this season and their 25th ranked run game does not fair any better.
DENVER
The Broncos will be missing a couple of key players on Sunday with TE Tony Scheffler and RB Selvin Young sidelined. TE Daniel Graham and RB Michael Pittman, both could see more productive days as a result.
HOUSTON
The Texans have not been able to get into the win column this season and one of the reasons appears to be their run defense which is ranked 26th allowing 140 yards on the ground per game.
INDIANAPOLIS
The Colts are not off to their usual start and Peyton Manning and one of his wide receivers could be pegged as the reason. This season Manning's numbers seem to be down. While Reggie Wayne seems to be on track with 25 receptions and 3 touchdowns, his counter part Marvin Harrison is off to a slow start with only 164 yards receiving and one touchdown.
JACKSONVILLE
Last season the Jaguars boasted one of the leagues top rushing offense with Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, but this season has been a different story. Through the team's first 5 games this seaon, Jacksonville is only averaging 108 yards on the ground (19th ranked).
KANSAS CITY
The Chiefs leading receiver Dwayne Bowe has 27 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns. His 56 passing targets leads all receivers in the NFL.
MIAMI
With impressive wins over the Patriots and the Chargers (both participants in last season's AFC championship) the Dolphins are 2-2 and only a half game behind the second place Pats, but two games behind division leading Buffalo.
OAKLAND
The Raiders running back Justin Fargas will return to the starting lineup this Sunday. Rookie running back Darren McFadden is questionable and may mot play. The Raiders are ranked 3rd in rushing this season.
PITTSBURGH
The Steelers pass defense is tied for the NFL lead with 18 sacks. Overall the defense is ranked 2nd allowing only 231 yards per game and their 15.8 points allowed per game ranks 5th in the NFL.
NEW ENGLAND
What a difference a year makes. This season the Patriots offense ranks 23rd in the NFL and their 19.8 points scored per game ranks 25th in the NFL.
NEW YORK JETS
The Jets quarterback Brett Favre will bring his league leading 12 touchdowns with him on Sunday to face the Bengal's 6th ranked pass defense. The Bengal's have only allowed 838 yards passing (167 yds/game) this season, but have only sacked the quarterback 3 times and recorded 2 interceptions.
SAN DIEGO
The Chargers host the Sunday night game this week and will face the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots in a rematch of last year's AFC championship. Going into this matchup, the Chargers bring the one of NFL's worst pass defenses that is allowing 265 yards passing per game.
TENNESSEE
The Titans 3rd ranked pass defense leads the NFL with 10 interceptions this season to go along with their 15 quarterback sacks. The defense has also only allowed 56 total points this season, best in the AFC tied with Baltimore.

THE WEEKLY FIRE AND ICE REPORT
WEEK 6 FANTASY FOOTBALL
THE FIRE & ICE REPORT
[By the Numbers]
MUCHOS EN FUEGO
Your weekly players on Fire...
Now that we are moving into week 6, fantasy owners are looking for any edge they can find to keep up their winning ways, get back on the right track, or turn things completely around. Every fantasy team owner is looking for that edge to help them get over the top on Sunday. There is no question that "information" is one of the most helpful tools a fantasy owner can ask for and one that he can never have enough.
Here's more information for owners to digest; some of the hottest fantasy players through week 5...
Greg Jennings WR...the Packers receiver has been the hottest and most consistent receiver all season. Jennings leads the NFL with 569 yards receiving and has 29 receptions. He's averaging 14.8 fantasy points per game on the season!
Jason Witten TE...the Cowboys star tight end leads all tight ends with 35 receptions, 442 yards receiving, and three touchdowns. For the season, Witten has scored 54 fantasy points, 18 more than the second ranked scoring tight end.
Muhsin Muhammad WR...the Panthers quarterback is not the only player benefiting from the return of WR Steve Smith. In his last two games, receiver Muhsin Muhammad has 11 receptions for 218 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 16.5 fantasy points over the stretch.
Clinton Portis RB....the Redskins running back has not been making as much noise off the field this season as he is on; in his last three starts Portis has totaled 479 yards of offense while scoring four times. The dynamic runner is averaging a whopping 17 fantasy points per game!
Ronnie Brown RB....the Dolphins leading runner has emerged as one of the hottest commodities. In his last two games, Brown has been spectacular rushing for 238 yards and scoring 5 touchdowns, while throwing a score! In the two affairs the Dolphin's back is averaging 26.5 points per contest!
Roddy White WR...the Falcon's receiver has stepped up this season and become big time. In his last three starts, White has caught a total of 20 passes for 341 yards and two scores. The Falcons receiver has quickly become a fantasy gamer and is averaging 15 fantasy points per game.
Larry Fitzgerald WR...if you're looking for the hottest fantasy player around, you won't have to look any farther than the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Over the past three weeks, Fitzgerald has grabbed 22 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns. In that span he's averaging 15 fantasy points per game!
Flying near the Sun...
More information to squeeze into your sports mind; these are some fantasy players that are scoring consistently each week (on the brink of heating up) and could be considered serviceable bye week fill ins and solid flex options...
Steve Slaton RB...surprisingly in Houston the Texans have found themselves a playmaker at the running back position. Rookie Steve Slaton has impressed and produced this season for the Texans averaging 5 yds/carry and leading the team with 4 touchdowns. Over his last three games Slaton is averaging over 18 fantasy points per game, by rushing for 242 yards and receiving for 94 yards.
Edgerrin James RB...the Cardinals running back has benefited greatly this season with the team's strong passing to support the run. In his last three games James has seen the end zone three times. He's carried the ball 48 times for 179 yards (3.7 yds/carry) and is averaging over 11 fantasy points per game in that stretch.
Bernard Berrian WR...the Vikings explosive and big play receiver is suddenly finding his form, over the past two weeks Berrian has caught 11 passes for 188 yards with a touchdown. He's averaging 9 fantasy points per game in his last two games.
Eli Manning QB....the Giants quarterback is playing just well enough to not get noticed or draw any headlines, but in his past three games, Manning has completed 65 of 97 passes (67% completion) and thrown for 816 yards (272 yds/game) and thrown 6 touchdowns and no interceptions. In traditional leagues, he's averaging almost 23 points per game (a top-10 quarterback).
Jake Delhomme QB...the Panthers have quietly climbed up the rankings in large part due to the play of their offense, which is led by quarterback Jake Delhomme. In his past two starts Delhomme has passed for 530 yards completing 34 of 51 passes (67% completion). The Panthers QB has also thrown 4 touchdowns with only one interception (21.6 fantasy points average last two games).
Warmin in the Oven...
Here are last weeks "Firemen" who played very well and are looking to keep your fantasy plates (lineups) warm!
Aaron Rodgers QB...last week with a sore shoulder, Rodgers stilled passed for over 300 yards and tossed three touchdowns. Matt Cassell QB...coming off his team's bye week, Cassell threw for 259 yards and a score to lead the Pats in week 5. DeAngelo Williams RB...exploded in week 5 with three touchdowns (2 rushing, 1 receiving) while rushing for 123 yards on 20 carries (6.1 yds/carry). Brandon Jacobs RB...the Giants monster running back used the bye week to rest well and come back with a vengeance. In week 5 Jacobs plowed through the Seahawks for 136 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Michael Turner RB...the NFLs' leading rusher just continued his great last Sunday steam rolling through the Packers on his way to 121 yards and a score. Andre Johnson WR...the Texans star receiver came out of his scoring drought last week reaching pay dirt for the first time this season. Johnson finished the game with 9 catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. Randy Moss WR....the Patriots homerun threat went yard last week on a 66 yard connection with his QB for six. Moss broke out of his fantasy slump pulling in 5 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Chris Cooley TE...the Redskins tight end had a big day on the road last week, catching 8 passes for 109 yards and a score!
IN A DEEP FREEZE
The Icemen cometh...
There are players on your fantasy team that get it done each week, then there are those that seem to just be occupying space on your rosters, these are the Icemen and unfortunately for every fantasy owner, every week they still cometh.
Chad Johnson WR...the Bengal's receiver has become a distant memory. Johnson has only 159 yards receiving this season with one lone score. His biggest day receiving is 43 yards last Sunday.
Matt Hasselbeck QB....the Seahawks quarterback is not off to a good start this season. His 57.7 passer rating is a career low and his 626 passing yards is the lowest among the leagues' starters. Last season Hasselbeck tossed 28 touchdowns, this season his 2 TDs put him on pace to throw just 8.
Laurence Maroney RB.....the Patriots running game has been non-existent this season and running back Laurence Maroney could be the main reason. In the team's four games, Maroney has yet to total 100 yards (93 yds this season) and does not have a single catch out of the backfield.
Fred Taylor RB.... the Jaguars running back totaled over 1200 yards last season. With only 232 yards this season, he's on pace to finish with 743 yards. So far in the team's five games, Taylor has surpassed 100 yards only once and does not have any rushing touchdowns.
Marvin Harrison WR....the Colts receiver is looking to break out of his funk this season. In the team's first four games Harrison has only 17 receptions for 164 yards and a single touchdown. He's only totaled 88 yards in his last three starts.
Michael Jenkins WR....the team's first play (62 yard touchdown pass) from scrimmage this season, was Jenkins best and seemingly only play this year. In 5 games Jenkins has only 9 catches for 151 yards, with 62 of those coming on the season opening touchdown.
M.I.A (Missing in Action)....
Just as quickly as some of your fantasy players can heat, they can from time to time just disappear. Here's a list of a few of the Firemen that had their flames extinguished in week 5!
Santana Moss WR...the Redskins playmaking receiver was quiet last Sunday, being held without a single catch against the Eagles. (0 fantasy points)
LaDanian Tomlinson RB...the Chargers star runner did not shine last week against the Phins, finishing with just 57 total yards (5 fantasy points)
Adrian Peterson RB....the Vikings running back had plenty of chances with 22 touches, but only totaled 41 yards. (3 fantasy points)
DeSean Jackson WR....the Eagles fantastic rookie receiver totaled only 21 yards last week in the team's loss. (1 fantasy point)
Brandon Marshall WR....the Broncos star receiver, "Optimus Prime" was not very optimum last Sunday, grabbing only 3 passes for 25 yards (2 fantasy points)
Calvin Johnson WR....last week against the Bears, Megatron was mega poor recording only 2 receptions for only 16 yards. (1 fantasy point)
Larry Johnson RB...with only 7 carries on the day last week, LJ finished with only 2 yards rushing. One of his worst performances as a professional. (0 fantasy points)
**all scoring averages based on traditional leagues standard scoring.

EARTH-SHAKERS! PLAY-MAKERS! GAME-BREAKERS!
Kitna expected to be game-time...
...the Lions quarterback is nursing a sore back and according to the Detroit Free Press it sounds like back up Dan Orlovsky is likely to start Sunday. With the change at QB, you would have to downgrade both Lion's receiver's Williams and Johnson (who was limited in practice, but expected to be available on Sunday). The Lions will face the Vikings this Sunday, which normally could be a good matchup in the secondary, but this week could get ugly. Unless Kitna plays, it could be wise to pass on Megatron and Roy.
Mike Walker could miss Week 6...
...following his week 5 breakout performance (6 receptions for 107 yards), normally Walker would be a hot ticket item on most Waiver Wires, but fantasy owners may want to rehtink this move. If you're looking for Walker to be a nice one week fill-n, this may not be that week. There is word that the Jaguars wide out has suffered a sprained MCL in last Sunday's affair. He has yet to practice this week and appears to be a long shot to play Sunday. Look elsewhere!
Lloyd likely to miss Sunday...
...the Bears receiver is still struggling with injuries (knee) and didn't practice again on Thursday. Lloyd is dealing with a sprained PCL. He did not play last week and looks like he won't go this Sunday against the Falcons. Lloyd was starting to emerge as a solid WR2 option before getting hurt and reverting the the old Lloyd we have seen the past couple of seasons (missing time due to injury). With the Bears bye week scheduled for Week 8, fantasy owners can place Lloyd on the back burner (at least until after the bye), he's likely to be out and non-relevant for a while.
Shockey returns to practice...
...the Saints tight end returned to practice on Wednesday on a limited basis, but was held out of all phases of practice Thursday. Shockey will likley have to be a full participant in practice Friday to have a chance to play Sunday. Shockey has a long history of getting hurt, I would expect Head Coach Sean Payton to take the safer road of caution and hold his star tight end out at least one more week. Fantasy owners will have to wait to see how he practices Friday, but it could be wise to sit him this week just the same.
Adam Jones not in trouble yet...
...according to many reports the Cowboys D-back Adam Jones was involved in an off-the-field altercation, but no report was maed or charges filed. Out of the Cowboy's camp, he will not be internally punished, but it could be too early to make any determinations as to whether the NFL will take action. Jones did practice and is expected to start this Sunday, but if you own the Cowboys cornerback in IDP leagues, he's not out of the woods yet and some form of punishment could be waiting.
Boldin has a chance to practice....
...the Cardinals receiver returned to the Cardinals facility, but did not practice. He has not been ruled out for Sunday, but owners will have to wait to see if Boldin practices on Friday. Even if he's a participant, it is more than likely that he would be a game-time decision and on appearance looks like a long-shot at best.
Berrian not ruled out of Sunday...
...just when the Vikings receiver seemed to be coming into his own as the team's go to deep threat, Berrian has been sidelined with a knee injury. Berrian had a break out night with 6 catches for 110 yards including a touchdown, but his knee injury has kept him out of practice this week and it's looking shaky for him to play this Sunday. He's not been ruled out, but owners will have to check Friday's practice report to get any sense if he can go. The good sign, according to Head Coach Brad Childress, Berrian was given the day off to rest his legs.
Curtis returns to full practice...
...the Eagles receiver Kevin Curtis, who's coming back from sports hernia surgery, was a full participant in practice Thursday for the second straight day. It doesn't sound like Curtis is going to be inserted so soon as a starter, but it does look promising for the Eagle's deep threat to see some limited action on Sunday. Even if Curtis practices Friday and does play Sunday, he's probably a long shot to make big noise, but could be used as a serviceable flex option this week.
Mo Morris resumes full practice...
...the Seahawks are getting their starting running back Maurice Morris back this week, returning from an MCL sprain. Currently RB Julius Jones is slated as the starter, but word is Morris who's fully participated in practice for two straight days is likely to figure in the mix. Morris had earned the starting gig in the preseason, so he's a favorite to get back on the field and contribute considerably. If available, Morris is a reliable RB3 or flex option and could be worth a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.

Week 6 "Players on the Move"
Players On The Move
(WEEK 6 WAIVER WIRE)
We are one-third of the way into most fantasy leagues now and the competition is starting to heat up. Waiver wire moves, trades, drops, and line-up overhauls are becoming the norm in leagues abound. If you are leading the pack, most likely you've got what you need to make your run, but could be looking for a few pieces to fill a couple of minor holes. If you're not and looking for help, this is your stop and relief is just a pick up away.
Last week there were a few notable performances that were definitely worth noting for owners sitting on the watch list and looking for players that could have some impact either week to week or as possible fill-in options. Let's take a look at what we have served up for week 6 as we once again take a look at the "Players on the move."
Willy Wants Ya (Weekly)"Golden Ticket"
This week's Tickets...
RB-Michael Pittman (Den)....with the Broncos starter Selvin Young going down with a groin injury, it's not been made official who will start this week for Denver, but regardless running back Michael Pittman is a good candidate to get extensive work this week. Fantasy owners looking for a good fill in or flex option for week 6 will likely be targeting Pittman, who could have some staying power if he plays well!
WR-Bobby Engram (Sea)....the Seahawks receiver made a successful return to the field on Sunday in Week 5. Engram was targeted by his quarterback 12 times and pulled in 8 of those throws for 61 yards. Not exactly big fantasy numbers for Engram, but over coming weeks his production will increase as will his numbers. If he wasn't grabbed up last week off your leagues waiver wires, now is the time to grab him!
QB-Kyle Orton (Chi)....the Bears quarterback has not been setting the place on fire, but he has been performing particularly well this season. Over the past several weeks Orton has passed very well completing 62.7% of his passes (64 of 102) in his last three starts, while throwing 7 touchdowns and passing for over 800 yards. At the moment Orton is nothing more than a good back-up for fantasy owners to use as a fill-in or possible flex option in some leagues, but his recent play will undoubtedly make him a hot option on the Waiver Wires!
more "Boys on the Move"...
If your lineup still has a few holes and you need to make a move, these three receivers could provide some temporary relief you need this week and weeks to come...
Devery Henderson WR (NO)-....on the off chance that owners in some leagues may have quit or given up on him, let it be noted that henderson seems to be the flavor of the day and could now be more fantasy relevant than ever. Henderson has had a few impressive games, making the most of his limited chances. Before last Monday night the most he had been targeted in any one game was 4 times in week 3 (enough to drive owners sick). All that changed Monday, when Henderson was targeted 11 times and caught 4 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. His season average per catch is 31.7 and he's totaled 317 yards, becoming one of the Boys that should move this week, if hes' not already on someone's bench!
Brandon Stokley WR (Den)-....the Broncos slot receiver has definitely elevated his fantasy production over the past couple of weeks pulling in 13 passes for 132 yards with a score over the past couple of weeks. With Marshall drawing so much attention from opposing defenses, this could be a trend fantasy owners could expect to see continue.
Greg Camarillo WR (Mia)-....the Dolphins receiver has not made much noise this season, but he has been steady with 4 or more catches for the past three weeks and last Sunday he reached the end-zone. Camarillo is nothing more than a poor man's Wes Welker, but what makes him an attractive fantasy flex option coming out of Miami, he fits Pennington's passing style. Expect to see Camarillo targeted more moving forward, with more looks in the red-zone, but it will be a rare occasion to see him chew big yardage. Play accordingly.
"Diamonds in the Rough"
Once again here are those "Hidden Jewels" that may have been overlooked, passed over, cast aside or run out of town as after thought, but could be on the brink of making a little noise and finding their way to fantasy relevance.
Your Week 6 Deep Sleepers...
Bobby Wade-WR (Min).....quietly over the past couple of weeks, Wade has emerged as the Vikings leading receiver. Wade has done it with 15 grabs for 139 yards over the past two weeks. Wade is not a big prototypical style of receiver, but he's got quickness, good hands, and has quickly developed a good chemistry with starting quarterback Gus Frerotte. If you have deficiancies at the receiver spot, Wade could spell some relief.
Reggie Brown-WR (Phi).....over the past two weeks the Eagles starting wide-out has been steady with games of 79 yards and 84 yards receiving. Brown is not going to light up the board in any PPR leagues with his 10 catches over the past two weeks, but with Curtis close to returning to action, Brown could become a serviceable WR3 or flex option in deep leagues (but check his matchup).
Domenik Hixon WR (NYG)....definitely not a secret thanks greatly to Fox Sports Analyst Michael Strahan, Hixon may not be the fastest moving commodity this week in the fantasy football Stock Market. Hixon is coming off a concussion in Week 6 with his status for Sunday uncertain and with the apparent growing crowd in in the Giants receiving Corp (Plax, Toomer, Moss, Smith, etc) owners may hesistate to move on him. But don't let that stop you from making a move here. Hixon has not see a lot of action this season, because of the Giants strong running game and their solid starting receivers. This guy is a playmaker, with great speed and he's averaging 19 plus yards per catch. If he's in the game, you can bet Eli will find him downfield!
"Lying in wait" under watchful eyes...
...these are those players through week 5, that are not still not considered serviceable options, but should be kept an eye on as their situations could suddenly change making them fantasy relevant and worthy of a spot on your roster!
Running Backs
Ryan Torain (Den)...the word is Torain is close to returning to practice and with Young out and no definitive starter in Denver, Torain will likely be given every opportunity to win the job. With his head coach already in his corner (Shanahan really likes this kid), he seems like a good prospect to win the job outright. While he doesn't figure to make his debut until Nov. 2nd, right now he's flying under most radars.
Wide Receivers
Rashied Davis (Chi)....the Bears receiver turned in a very good game last Sunday against the Lions, being targeted 9 times and pulling down 6 passes for 97 yards. While this has the look of a sleeper finally wakening, it could be a little premature to make this move. This was Rashied's first real productive game, and though Orton is starting look good, we may want to keep our eyes on this development to see if both QB and WR can be consistent and more productive.

NOISE-SHAKERS! PLAY-MAKERS! GAME-BREAKERS!
Hasselbeck set to play...
...the good news for Seahawks fans is that Hasselbeck's knee injury is being called a "bone bruise" and Seattle's quarterback assured he would start in Week 6. Hass' outlook for Sunday, he still figures to be ready to play against Green Bay. While his season has been filled with a few bumps and bruises, no high and many lows, I see Hasselbeck now as one of those dark horse down the stretch with great upside. He's got his number one receiver (Engram) back who will start this Sunday and Branch will be back out there again soon. Hass still plays in the NFC West and could have some big games down the road (during fantasy playoffs); Week 15 against the Rams (ranked 28th vs Pass) and Week 16 vs Jets (ranked 30th vs Pass)!
Rams resign WR Eddie Kennison...
...no sooner than the team had released Kennison, they turned right around and resign the veteran receiver. This came immediately following when the team lost another one of it's wide outs to injury. Dane Looker, one of the team's receiver and special teams player, was not cleared to play after suffering a concussion in Week 4 creating the need. With rookie receiver now elevated to the starting lineup, Kennsion rejoins the Rams receiving corp, but hardly offers any value for fantasy owners. His time could be limited with WR Drew Bennett expected to make his return in Week 7.
Jackson to start in Denver?...
...with injury reports now floating all about regarding the Bronco's rookie receiver Eddie Royal, the current word coming out of Denver, Head Coach Mike Shanahan expects the kid to play in Week 6. Earlier reports had indicated that Royal would miss this Sunday's clash with the Jaguars, elevating WR Darrell Jackson into the starting lineup, but that seems very unlikely now. If Royal is good to go, Jackson will likely see a lot of time on the sideline and remain irrelevant to the fantasy world.
Croyle to start in Week 6...
...the change at quarterback comes as no surprise in Kansas City. QB Damon Huard has been ineffective and the offense inept. With Huard, Thigpen, and Croyle the Chiefs really don't have many options at the QB spot. Even with Croyle back at the helm, the Chiefs offense will struggle downgrading the team's passing game fantasy value, as well as the running game. Fantasy owners can expect to see a drop in production from RB Larry Johnson and could see WR Dwayne Bowe struggle from time to time against stiffer defenses (Chiefs play Titans in Week 7), unless Croyle returns and plays extremely well (oh really?).
Chambers likely to sit in Week 6...
...with Chambers suffering an ankle injury that will likely sideline him for Week 6, WR Craig "Buster" Davis is expected to start in his place. Even though the Chargers QB Phillip Rivers has many other targets to seek out on Sunday, this is something we have not been seeing with regularity this season. The team's star tight end has been relatively quiet and the other starting wideout has not made much more noise. I would expect Davis to be a good one-week fill-in of flex option with Chambers out. He's likely to get some of Chambers looks in the red-zone and with Rivers playing as well as he is, Davis' has got a good shot to score on Sunday!
No Hackett this Sunday....
...the word out of Carolina is Hackett suffered a sprained MCL and will not play Sunday against the Buccaneers. WR Dwayne Jarrett will step in as the team's number 3 receiver. DJ has been relatively quiet this season, and has hardly made any sound since the return of Steve Smith. With the team's dynamic 1-2 punch at the receiver spot with Smith and Muhammad, there is little chance anything will change even with Jarrett on the field. Jarrett may have an opportunity here to get some playing time, but that's about all he's going to get fantasy owners is playing time.
Torain getting set to return...
...according to Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan, running back Selvin Young has been ruled out for week 6. With the injury not considered serious, Young could return to action in week 7, but it's stating to look like the window of opportunity for Young to overtake the starting job has closed. Word is the Broncos rookie running back Ryan Torain is getting set to return to the practice next week, and he's expected to make his debut Nov 2nd. Prior to his elbow injury, the word out of Denver was the team was high on this Torain, in particular Shanahan. No other back (Young, Hall, Pittman) has separated himself from the pack and the window of opportunity for Torain to step in, is wide open. Now could be the time for fantasy owners to make a move!
Colston could return soon...
...the Saints explosive wide out had his cast removed and only wore a small piece of padding on his surgically repaired thumb in his return to limited work in practice Wednesday. While Colston initially was not expected to be ready this soon, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune if he feels comfortable catching, he'll "definitely" play. Colston will likely be a game-time decision. Colston is a big target at 6'4" and Brees' big go-to-receiver, if he can play, he's a must start for fantasy owners unless you have comparable option.

THE FANTASY E.R.
Week Five Surprises & "Eyebrow Raisers"
As we close the books for week 5, once again we take a look at some of the surprising performances from those players that some fantasy owners and experts may have discounted, overlooked, and even discarded heading into this weekends' games. We you take a look at the names of some of these players, that I like to call "eyebrow raisers" and you will find these are the same players you should be looking for in your coming week's waiver wire.
When you go "Searching your scrap heaps" this week, always consider the circumstance when evaluating a players value. Fliers like Moss in New York or Breaston in Arizona may be sitting in a limited window, while others like Jones, Faulk, and Bradshaw, may have just been a one week beneficiary. but of course there are those that could be on the verge of becoming fantasy relevant like a Camarillo or Hixon.
Moving forward, here are the week 5 surprise performances from some of the not-quite-ready for "Prime-Time" Fantasy Players.
RB-DEANGELO WILLIAMS (CAR)
Perhaps Sunday's biggest surprise came in Carolina. With much of the talk leading up to the Panthers-Chiefs tilt on Sunday surrounding Carolina's rookie running back, DeAngelo Williams turned in a performance that had to catch the attention of many football fans and fantasy owners alike. Williams carried the ball 20 times, rushed for more than 100 yards, totaled more than 145 yards of offense and scored three times in the Panthers romp over the Chiefs. If this didn't raise your eyebrow, it's doubtful anything will.
RB-FELIX JONES (DAL)
Following last Sunday where he did not record a single carry or reception, the Cowboys' rookie running back bounced back in week 5 with a surprising performance. Jones had 9 carries on the day and gained 96 yards on the ground, which included a 33 yard touchdown run that raised everyone's eyebrows. (15-FPTs)
WR-SINORICE MOSS (NYG)
The Giants lose Plax for one game and a couple find hidden gems on their bench. Getting a chance to be more involved on Sunday, the Giants WR Sinorice Moss raised many eyebrows catching 4 passes for 45 yards and scoring twice. Before Sunday Moss only had 1 catch. (16-FPTs)
RB-KEVIN FAULK (NE)
The Patriots running back has a surprisingly very productive day for fantasy owners taking a chance on him as a flier. Faulk did see many touches on Sunday, but when he got them he made all of them count. Faulk had 7 carries for 32 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also added 4 receptions for 29 yards. (17-FPTs)
WR-GREG CAMARILLO (MIA)
The Dolphins stunned the football world on Sunday upsetting the San Diego Chargers 17-10 and WR Greg Camarillo surprised many fantasy owners with a nice fantasy day. Camarillo caught 6 balls for 68 receiving yards and a touchdown! (12-FPTs)
RB-TIM HIGHTOWER (ARI)
The Cardinals touchdown specialist and rookie running back Tim Hightower turned in his best game of the year on Sunday against the Bills. The rookie carried the ball for 7 times for 37 yards (5.3 yds/carry) and scored two touchdowns. (15-FPTs)
WR-DOMENIK HIXON (NYG)
Let it be known that Fox Sports Analysts and former New York Giant, Michael Strahan called his shot prior to kick-off on Sunday, when he claimed that WR Domenik Hixon "is a playmaker and will score today!" He also added he would have a big day. Hixon finished with 4 catches for 102 yards and a score raising many eyebrows. I guess Strahan knows what he is talking about. I want to be like Mike! (16-FPTs)
WR-BRANDON STOKLEY (DEN)
Would anyone give me props for this call, not that I need that. I am just happy that the Broncos won (yes I am a Bronco fan). Fantasy owners needing a serviceable fill in got more than they could have hoped for if they played Broncos' WR Brandon Stokley. Stokley raised a few eyebrows on Sunday catching 6 passes for 52 yards with a score! (11-FPTs)
More notable surprises from some fantasy "Hidden-Jewels"
**The Packers TE Donald Lee, relatively quiet thus far this season, stepped up on Sunday and found pay dirt once in the team's loss. Lee finished with only 4 catches and 25 yards, but did have his score. (8-FPTs)
**The Eagles WR Reggie Brown had his second consecutive productive game of receiving hauling in 4 passes for 84 receiving yards in week 5. Over the past two weeks, Brown has totaled 10 receptions for 163 yards raising an eyebrow or two. (8-FPTs)
**The Cardinals WR Steve Breaston played well on Sunday as the newly inserted starter replacing the injured Anquan Boldin. Breaston caught 7 passes for 77 yards turning in a solid receiving day. (7-FPTs)
**The Buccaneers WR Ike Hilliard made a little noise on Sunday maximizing his opportunities. Hilliard only caught four balls for 29 yards, but did find the end-zone. (8-FPTs)
**The Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw got into the mix on Sunday and surprised owners with a nice day. Bradshaw carried the ball 11 times for 65 yards. (6-FPTs)
**The Seahawks WR Bobby Engram made his 2008 season debut on Sunday against the Giants and surprised owners by jumping right back into the mix with 8 catches for 61 yards. Not a great game, but a good start for fantasy owners. (6-FPTs)
**The Titan's TE Bo Scaife awoke from his slumber in week 5 just in time to pull in 7 passes for 72 yards on Sunday. It was his first big game receiving since week one. (7-FPTs)
**noted scoring based on standard rules.

NOISE-SHAKERS! PLAY-MAKERS! GAME-BREAKERS!
Maroney and Ocho, leading wrong pack...
...one thing in common about Patriots RB Laurence Maroney, WR Chad Johnson, QB Carson Palmer, WR Braylen Edwards, and QB Derek Anderson, they all are in the running for this year's "Fantasy Bust of the Year." Yes, there are a few more names that could be added, but these will do for now. While both Ocho and Edwards will only go as far as their quarterbacks do, many of us fantasy owners are hoping their luck will change and fast. Now in New England, its hard to pin a finger on it, but Maroney's production is down this season and there's no explaination. He's yet to total 100 yards on the ground and has not seen the end-zone. With a full backfield in Foxboro and no Brady, it could be soon that Maroney gets lost in the shuffle and becomes non-relevant in fantasy leagues.
Brian Westbrook suffer broken ribs...
...is this really any shock to anyone. Players will get hurt and at the running back spot, injuries are common, but with Mr.Westbrook it's always going to be game-time. Westbrooks latest prognosis, he has broken ribs and will likely sit this week in practice and depending on how he feels on Friday (whether he practices or not) he will once again be llisted as a game-time decision. Check your "waiver wires" and "Search the scrap heaps!"
Is there a controversy in Tampa...
...last Sunday an ineffective quarterback Brian Griese left the field with an elbow injury and was replaced with QB Jeff Garcia. The interesting point here, this is how Griese took over the reigns as the starter when an injured Garcia was replaced. So will this be a repeat? Will Garcia now replace and injured Griese? As of Monday, Head Coach Jon Gruden would not committ to either quarterback starting, but remember Griese has struggled with ineffectiveness and 6 turnovers the last several weeks. Healthy or not, it would not be a surprise to see Garcia named the starter in week 6!
Boldin not likely to play before bye...
...With the team's bye scheduled for week 7, there does not appear any reason to rush Boldin back on the field, especially with WR STeve Breaston playing well in his absence. According to the Arizona Republic, it is not believed that the Cardinals will rush Boldin back and he could miss week 6 against the Cowboys.
Monsters of the Midway return...
...solid quarterback play (not great, but solid), a good running game (ranked 9th) and a formidable defense marks the return of the "Monsters of teh Midway." The Chicago Bears may not be playing exactly like the 85' team, but this year's team is getting it done making the signature plays that the Bears are know for! This season the Bears are getting lots pressure on the opposing quarterbacks with 12 sacks (ranked 9th) this season. The Bears are also doing a great job making opposing offenses one dimensional with their 4th ranked run defense. This season the Bears are allowing the fewest run attempts per game at 19.8. While they are not the 85' Bears, they seem to be good enough to be in first in the NFC North!
Cassell to Moss, something to remember....
...just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water or drop back deep in coverage, surprise, surprise, Moss is back. Okay, it may be a little to early to start leading the ticker tape parade, but if you are a Patriots fan or a fantasy owner that did not sell Moss last week you are happy today! It may be too early to get too excited, but certainly Moss' 5 catches for 111 yards and his 66 yard catch and run for a score are a good sign that the Patriots homerun threat could be coming to life!
Seahawks' Branch suffers heel injury...
...the Seahawks starting receiver Deion Branch suffered an injury to his heel on Sunday and his status for week 6 is uncertain. Branch suffered the injury in the first quarter and he didn't play in the second half. The injury is being called a bruised heel, which is a good sign. It sounds like the injury is more of a pain issue for Branch, so he could play, but I would expect to see him sitting in week 6 and resting the heel. Branch relies on his speed and quickness, playing can only aggravate and prolong the injury. Check the unjury reports on Friday, if he's able to practice pain free, then he could play otherwise I wouldn't count on it.
Rams lose tight end for the season...
...the Rams tight end Randy McMichael was expected to miss at least six weeks when his injury was announced, the move to place him on the IR really came as no surprise. For fantasy owners, McMichael has now been a bust in leagues the last two season (39 receptions in 07, 11 receptions this season). The life of a tight end in the NFL never seems to last very long for most and with injuries now slowing him down, McMichael could be on the backend of his career. McMichael will turn 30 before camp opens next season.

NFL WEEKLY STORYLINES
Week 6...
NFL Weekly Storylines
AFC
The Titans remain unbeaten....
With a little help on Sunday from the stripes, the Titans were able to remain undefeated. In the final minutes of Sunday's tilt with the Ravens, the Titans and quarterback Kerry Collins were the beneficiaries of a questionable roughing the quarterback penalty call that kept the eventual game winning drive alive. The offense struggled a bit in week 5 totaling only 210 net yards against a very good Raven defense. Fortunately the Titans boast a strong defense of their own that kept this affair close all afternoon, close enough for Collins and company to secure the win.
fantasy impact: The offense looked very out of sync, partly due to a disruptive Raven defense and the inconsistencies that come with quarterback Kerry Collins. It didn't help that Collins' favorite target, WR Justin Gage was out of the line-up. The Titans are primarily a running team and will struggle from time to time with the pass against good defenses. One note worth taking from Sunday's win, was the re-emergence of the TE position in the passing game; 9 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown.
The Phins stun the Chargers...
As is always the case in the NFL, traveling from coast to coast is tough for any team. Just ask the Chargers, who were stunned Sunday afternoon losing to the Miami Dolphins (1-15 last season). Of course this Dolphins team does not seem to resemble that team from a year ago. With new leadership in the front office and on the field, this Dolphins team appears set to begin a new era of winning. Led by RB Ronnie Brown and the "Wildcat" formation, the Dolphins are now 2-2 in the East and appear to be a contender with impressive wins over the Chargers and the Patriots.
fantasy impact: The Dolphins are certainly looking like contenders in the East, but it's early and the jury is still out. What is evident is the play of RB Ronnie Brown. Over the past two weeks, Brown has clearly seperated himself from the running back competiton. RB Ricky Williams will still demand some touches on Sunday, but Brown with his 238 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns in his last two games has made a strong case to be the teams primary ball-carrier.
The Bills lose Edwards, then lose...
Just as the team's really starting to emerge as a potential power in the AFC, they lose their commander on the field and revert to playing more like the teams from their past of mediocrity. It took QB JP Losman and the Bills just two plays to feel the effects of missing their offensive leader Trent Edwards, when they turned the ball over. Sunday was clearly a game that you'd have to chalk up as "one that just got away." The Cards got up on the Bills in the first half and just never looked back. The Bills defense really struggled with the Cardinals passing game and were never able to apply any real pressure on QB Kurt Warner.
fantasy impact: The biggest concern for the Bills and fantasy owners is the health of QB Trent Edwards. While Edwards is considered nothing more than a mid-round QB 2 in fantasy leagues, his presence or absence will have a direct effect on the production of WR Lee Evans and RB Marshawn Lynch. Don't be misled by Losman's 87 yard pass to Evans, the two were only able to hook up one more time for 13 yards the rest of the afternoon. Fantasy owners should check on Edwards' status later in the week.
The Broncos defense finally shows up....
It tooks four weeks of painful watching for Broncos fans, but finally in week 5, the team's defense decided to show up for 60 minutes and the Bronco's improved to 4-1. The defense was not dominant by any stretch, again getting snake bit by the run (139 yards allowed, 6.3 yds/carry). Perhaps the biggest note for fantasy owners in team defense leagues, while the Bucs are not high flying (25 points per game), they were held to 13 points on Sunday (12 less than their average). The Broncos defense also cut out the big play, allowing only one big run for 38 yards and one pass play for 17 yards. There will be bigger tests for this defense down the road, but it's a good sign for a team 4-1.
fantasy impact: The Broncos defense seems to be lacking that big time dominant player that can change the momentum of a game with single play, but there are a couple of notable IDPs fantasy owners need to know about. Likely drafted in most IDP leagues LB DJ Williams plays along side a pair of good linebackers, Boss Bailey (27 solo tackles) and Nate Webster (28 solo tackles).
NFC
Giants still team to beat.
Whether you want to admit it or not, when this season began the Giants were the team to beat. This is what happens when you win a world championship, everyone targets you, you become the hunted and you are the guy on top until someone knocks you off. At the moment no one has come close and the Giants remain the team to beat and on top at 4-0. The Giants are boasting the top offense right now and one of the leagues best defenses. These are the exact ingredients you need to be the best and the man at the top!
fantasy impact: The Giants are getting it done this year in more ways than one; QB Eli Manning is managing the offense very well and making few mistakes (6 touchdown passes and only 1 pick), the running game is healthy and RB Brandon Jacobs is a monster most weeks, and the defense is playing at a high level and pressuring opposing QBs very well (15 sacks this season).
Delhomme looks strong....
The Panthers quarterback is now playing like he did at the start of the 2007 season. In the past two weeks Jake Delhomme is making crisp throws and throwing with great accurracy, completing 67 percent of his passes (34 of 51). Delhomme has gotten his deep threat back, with the return WR Steve Smith back and has wasted little time taking advantage passing for 530 yards in his last two games. The Panthers are looking like a solid contender in the NFC and Jake Delhomme is playing like this season's comeback player of the year!
fantasy impact: One the biggest moves the Panthers made in the off-season that could prove huge for QB Jake Delhomme and fantasy owners was the resigning of WR Muhsin Muhammad. Muhammad appears to be the perfect compliment to WR Steve Smith. Over the past two weeks Muhammad has caught 11 passes for 218 yards with 2 touchdowns, while Smith has caught 12 passes for 192 yards and a score. Smith was out the first two weeks this season, so as these three get more time under their belts, owners can expect to see bigger numbers down the road!
Campbell continues to show growth....
The Redskins seem to be improving and getting better as team, as their team leader matures each week on the gridiron. For two weeks now, the QB Jason Campbell has led his team to impressive road wins over two very good teams; the Dallas Cowboys and the Philladelphia Eagles. Perhaps the biggest reason for Campbell's success is not what he is doing on the field, but more of what he is not doing. The young quarterback, only in his 4th season and second as an NFL starter is making good decisions, smart throws, and NOT making any mistakes. So far this season in 153 pass attempts and 17 runs, Campbell has yet to committ a turnover.
fantasy impact: Okay, go ahead and note, I have officially hexed this guy with that last note, but it's an impressive stat that had to be shared. Campbell is not making any mistakes right now, but he's hardly lighting it up in the fantasy world. The Redskins are balanced and have a lot of playmakers, so as Campbell grows as a passer (and he will), fantasy owners will want to take note, his numbers will get better. He's got a huge arm and can make the tough throws on the move. Fortunately for HC Jim Zorn, he's not asking his young QB to make the tough plays, nor does he need him to.
Other headlines to follow this week...
- Ocho doesn't kiss star, while Palmer continues to play flat.
- Injuries are big in week 5; Westbrook (ribs), Branch (heel),
- Chiefs QB Croyle to return as starter following bye.
- Rams' McMichael placed on the injured reserve, out for season.
- Chambers hurt and LT reinjures toe in Sunday loss to Dolphins.
- Broncos' Royal suffers ankle injury, could miss couple of weeks.

MONDAY MORNING HUDDLE
[The Late Edition]
Monday Morning Huddle
Week 6 in the NFL
Two Minute blitz
Top Teams...
The Tennessee Titans and New York Giants appear to be the class of the league so far this season, mixing a balanced offenses with talented dominant defenses. Some could argue that, while the Giants are the defending champions, they are exactly where they should be, but the Titans are a different story altogether, but are they?
Just before the season began, the Giants had lost one of their key components on defense, when DL Osi Umenyiora went down with a season ending knee injury. Osi was one player that most experts felt the Giants would need to defend their world championship. With the Titans, there was early season turbulence with their immature starting quarterback, going down to injury and questioning his own confidence. The chances of coming out of the gate this season in a good shape for both teams did not look like a good prospect. At best they could hope to be 500, but now with the completion of week 5, both teams have resolved a lot of the issues that plagued fans' message boards and each are residing in the Penthouse of their respective conference.
So is there really any surprise to see both of these teams at the top of their respective conference? Maybe, but when you look at both teams similarities, it's really not that hard. The Titans and Giants are both dominating their opponents on the defensive side of the ball. This season the Giants are ranked 3rd and the Titans 5th in total yards allowed this season. Both defenses have recorded 15 quarterback sacks this season (tied for 3rd in the NFL) and they rank 1st (Titans) and 2nd (Giants) in points allowed. While the Titans lead the NFL with 10 interceptions this season, not to be out done the Giants defense has only allowed 34 first downs by pass this season (tied for 2nd best in the NFL).
Best Players...
With a quarter of the season in the books, it's time to take a look at who is the best football player this season. Is it the Saint's quarterback Drew Brees, the Viking's running back Adrian Peterson, or could it be the Cowboy's Terrell Owens? Looking over what has transpired thus far this season, I would have to say none of the above, in fact TO may be only the second best player on his team. If you're looking for an early season MVP in football, while some may argue (and have a case) that the Packers WR Greg Jennings deserves consideration, I would have to cast my vote for tight end Jason Witten.
What makes Witten so valuable is not just the numbers he puts on the board for fantasy owners and the Cowboys, but what you don't find in the box score. Witten is a ferocious blocker and plays a valuable role in the Cowboys run game and he's also one of the toughest players on the field playing through injuries. This season After week 5 of the season, Witten leads the NFL with 35 receptions for 442 yards and has two scores. One statistic that often gets over looked, Witten also has 23 catches for 1st downs this season. Only Brandon Marshall of the Broncos has more with 24.
On the other side of the ball, could there be any argument what defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth has meant to the Tennessee Titans. Haynesworth has been unstoppable on the inside of the line creating havoc and disruption for opposing offenses. His 5 sacks this season ranks him 5th in the NFL and his 15 solos tackles ranks him tied for 6th among the top 30 NFL pass rushers this season. With Albert leading the charge, the Titans are one of the toughest teams against the pass.
Power Rankings
How they rank...
1. New York Giants (4-0-0)....how can anyone argue a team that is 4-0 and dominating their opponents on both sides of the ball. The Giants offense is ranked number one overall this season in total yards, while their defense is ranked 3rd overall. Eli Manning is continuing to play like a quarterback with a Superbowl ring on his finger, while the entire defense is playing with the spirit of the Lawrence Taylor. A huge bruising power back punishing the opposing defenses and a relentless pass rush swallowing opposing quarterbacks, now that is the definition of The Best!
2. Tennessee Titans (5-0-0)....the Titans are using the same formula that is working for the Giants. The Titans are running the ball this season (7 rushing Tds, 2nd most in NFL) and playing great defense (ranked 5th overall). The Titans have the new Thunder & Lightning with RB LenDale White and RB Chris Johnson, and a formidable defense with names like Bulluck, Haynesworth, and Vanden-Bosch.
3. Washington Redskins (4-1-0)....if they hadn't played the Giants in week one, the Redskins have looked so good the past several weeks beating Dallas and Philly, they could get several votes for the number one spot. The Redskins are filled with a bunch of no names on defense that are playing steady and doing the job, while their offense is filled with many playmakers that can beat you in more than one way; Portis, Moss, Randle-El, Cooley, pick your poison.
4. Dallas Cowboys (4-1-0)....America's team has been entertaining if anything, but after losing to the Redskins last week and holding off the Bengals in week 5, their star has lost a little of its' shine. Tony Romo and the Boys still have lots of weapons on both sides of the ball and in week 9 their clash with the Giants in New York is going to be huge!
5. Carolina Panthers (4-1-0)....without question, quarterback Jake Delhomme has to be the comeback player of the year thus far. The Panthers are running the ball well with their 1-2 punch of Williams and Stewart, but Delhomme has been solid this season. Over the past two week Delhomme has completed 34 of 51 passes (67%) and thrown for 530 yards and tossed 4 touchdowns!
Rounding out the top 10...
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1-0)....a huge road win continues their rise back up the board.
7. Buffalo Bills (4-1-0)....we could see them start to fall if Edwards is out for a while.
8. Denver Broncos (4-1-0)....finally they're defense shows up to play an entire game.
9. New England Patriots (3-1-0).....they are still the defending AFC Champions.
10. Chicago Bears (3-2-0)....their defense is making plays and Orton looks like an NFL quarterback.
In the mix
As we look over the first quarter of the season, there have been a number of players that have fallen off some of your fantasy stock watches. One player that remains in the mix and that fantasy owners should note, is Bronco's WR Brandon Stokley. With Denver's top wide out stealing a lot of the thunder and the rookie drawing some notable attention Stokley has merely caught 13 passes for 132 yards and a score over the past two weeks. With teams focsuing on Marshall and Royal, Stokley could continue to see more productive days.
Now that he is back on the playing field, Seahawks WR Bobby Engram is clearly back in the mix. On Sunday Engram was targeted 12 times and pulled in 8 passes for 61 yards. It was not a big day for fantasy owners, but a telling sign of what to expect from the Seahawks receiver in weeks to come.
The Cowboys truly have an incredible dilemma they will have to deal with week in and week out, with so many stars on offense, there is only one ball to share. On Sunday, the Cowboys rookie RB Felix Jones made it apparent he wasn't going to make this dilemma less challenging for the coaches. The dynamic shifty back carried the ball only 9 times, but totaled 96 rushing yards including a 33 yard touchdown run! Jones is playing behind Barber, the Cowboy's every-down, but with his talent it will be too difficult to not get Jones in the mix.
When week 5 began, they were many folks talking about trading WR Randy Moss away, sell, sell, sell. Fantasy show after fantasy show (and yes I listen to many) were talking to team owners about dealing away one of the biggest talents in the NFL. Experts were advising such a move, but if you watched any of the pregame shows on Sunday, you might have caught a glimpse of one segment that would have told you holding onto Moss could be wise. Apparently Moss and his quarterback had a sit down during their bye week, and if Sunday's results were any indication, I'd say that must have been one hell-of-a-talk! Moss finished with 5 catches for 111 yards and a 66 yard score. Not only was the Moss we know and love back on Sunday, but fantasy owners better note, he's definitely in the mix now!
4th quarter timeout
fantasy notes from the past week...
If you are a fantasy owner of RB Larry Johnson and you're not holding rookie RB Jamaal Charles on your bench, unless you have a back-up RB2 option, you could be in trouble. If you watched this past weekend's games and caught the Carolina-KC matchup you probably noticed that the Chiefs defense is horrible. The Panthers ran roughshod all over them on Sunday rushing for 205 yards and once the team fell behind by 21 points, it was exit LJ and enter Charles in charge. Unless the Chiefs can find a new defense, fantasy owners could see this become a repeating trend.
So far this season, many fantasy owners will agree that RB Laurence Maroney could be the biggest "bust of the year." Maroney was taken in many fantasy drafts as a high to mid RB2 and so far this season he has disappeared. In four games Maroney has only carried the ball 28 times for 93 yards and has yet to record a single catch or touchdown! Maroney has missed some action this season due to nagging injuries, but when he is on the field, he's performing more like the waterboy, than a fantasy stud. Owners better start "Searching the Scrap Heap" for needed help.
There seems to be a dark cloud looming over the city of Cincinnati. I have not seen or read anything other than the normal reports all you have seen or read about QB Carson Palmer, but if something looks wrong, sounds wrong, and just doesn't add up right, there must be something wrong. Fantasy owners should keep a close eye on the health of Palmer and his elbow/arm. Palmer has only thrown 3 touchdowns through four games, compared to 10 last season. One of the biggest concerns for fantasy owners (and the Bengals) has to be the lack of the "long ball." Palmer's longest completed pass this season is 36 yards (26th in the NFL) which was mostly accomplished by the feet of RB DeDe Dorsey.
Check back again every week for more from my "Monday Morning Huddle."

The Bills starting QB Trent Edwards was knocked out of his week 5 game against the Cardinals on Sunday. Edwards was carted off the field and later it was reported he suffered a concussion. No additional information is available at this time.
The Seahawks WR Deion Branch suffered an apparent heal injury on Sunday. Branch did not play in the second half and the injury appears to be a day-to-day situation.
The Giants WR Domenik Hixon suffered a mild concussion on Sunday in the first half of his game with the Seahawks. Hixon was ruled out for the second half and no further information has been released.
The Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck suffered and an apparent knee injury on Sunday and did not finish the game. Hasselbeck was injured early and continued, but was taken out in the third quarter. It is not know if his exit was a result of the injury of the fact the team was getting blown out, so no need to risk further injury.
The Chargers WR Chris Chambers suffered a lower leg injury on Sunday. He was taken off the field to have X-rays taken and the severity of his injury is not known.
The Buccaneers QB Brian Griese was injured Sunday during the team's week 5 game. Griese was shaken up during the third quarter and apparently suffered an injury to his elbow. Jeff Garcia finished the game in his place.

This Week at a glance...
If you followed this weeks injury news, you heard Arizona Cardinal WR Anquan Boldin is OUT for Week 5, following his surgical procedure to repair his fractured sinus. His timeline to return is not known, but the team is hopeful Boldin can be back for Week 6. Cardinals third receiver Steve Breatson will move into the starting position in Boldin's absence.
With both RB Willie Parker sidelined with a knee injury and rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall OUT for the season, back up runner Mewelde Moore will make the start tonight against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers also added free-agent RB Najeh Davenport earlier in the week and he could be active today.
In the Meadowland the Giants will be without their normal stating receiver Plaxico Burress (suspension), but the visiting Seahawks will have a pair of familiar faces returning to the line up today. WR Deion Branch back from a severe knee injury, will make the start today and receiver Bobby Engram is back to fill the slot position. Both receivers are expected to play half of the teams offensive snaps today.
The Cincinnati Bengals looking for help on the offense signed RB Cedric Benson this week and have activated WR Chris Henry as of yesterday. The team released RB Kenny Watson to make room for Henry, so it's likely that Henry will be on the field Sunday. Benson is expected to be active, but it is not known if he will play.
The Buccaneers will be missing their top receiving target from a year ago with WR Joey Galloway still sidelined with a foot injury. Galloway was ruled out on Friday and did not make the trip with the team. WR Antonio Bryant will make the start in his place against the Broncos.
Noteable Game-time plays today...
The Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be a gametime decision today, although a number of reports floating around did indicate there's a good shot that he will play today. Owners will have to check for the latest updates just before kick-off at 1pm ET (10am PST).
The Bengals are hopeful that quarterback Carson Palmer will be able to make the start today, but he will be a gametime decision. Fantasy owners need to check for last minute updates prior to kickoff. If Palmer can't go, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start, but he should not be used on any fantasy rosters this week.
The Otherside of the ball...
Check here each week for weekly key IDP injuries.
The Packers will have the services of linebacker AJ Hawk today against the Falcons. The Vikings linebacker EJ Henderson is not expected to play Monday night. The Bears could be with out defensive back Nathan Vasher today, while DB Charles Tillman sounds like he will play. The Chiefs CB Patrick Surtain is likely to play today against the Panthers, while linebacker Donnie Edwards is OUT. The Bills DB Terrence McGee was downgraded and will be OUT today. The Redskins corner Shawn Springs is questionable and could be game-time.
Check "Sunday Morning Game-Time" for the last minutes starts and sits for today's games.
Two Minute Drill!
Fill the Void:
If you are in a deep league or PPR league needing help at the RB position, a possible fill in this week (if available in your league) could be the Buc's Warrick Dunn. Even in a time share role, the veteran running back has been productive with catching passes and running the ball. Dunn has ran for 197 yards and has caught 10 passes for 82 yards, with a touchdown.
With the Broncos leaning heavy on a pass-happy camp this season, for owners in deep leagues or PPRs, last week Brandon Stokley emerged as a possible fill in or flex option with his 7 catch 80 yard performance on the road against the Chiefs.
The Giants are without WR Plaxico Burress this week, opening to door of opportunity for other players to step up and make plays. A possible servcieable option for the week, is WR Steve Smith. In week 3 the Giants wide out was productive with 7 catches for 60 yards.
Three and Out (RBs & WRs):
Three receiver I like in week 5 and one that I would
Wide Receivers...
(1st Down) WR-Brandon Marshall (Den)....the Broncos talented receiver "Optimus Prime" should have a huge day on Sunday matching up with the Buccaneers smaller corners. Marshall is the highest targeted receiver in the league and there is no chance this changes today. Play him, he will be busy all afternoon.
(2nd Down) WR-Andre Johnson (Hou)....the Texans offense is starting to warm-up, but this unit won't get off the ground unless they get their big stud receiver involved. Johnson has yet to find the end-zone this season, but today he could make multiple trips. A solid play against the Colts defense today, start him.
(3rd Down) WR-Lee Evans (Buf)...if you watched film from last week's shoot out between the Cardinals and the Jets, you have to be salivating if you own Evans. The Cards were burned for six touchdowns and all Evens does is catch the deep ball. I expect to see him make at least one trip to the house today, start him.
(OUT-sit him) WR-Ike Hilliard (TB)....with Galloway OUT and Bryant in, it sounds like Hilliard with draw Broncos corner Champ Bailey in coverage today. That's not a good matchup if you own Hilliard, could be a wiser move to sit him today, if you have other options.

THIS WEEK AROUND THE LEAGUE
NATIONAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE
ARIZONA
The Cardinals will be without WR Anquan Boldin on Sunday. Boldin underwent surgery to repair his fractured sinus and the team is hopeful he can return by Week 6. The teams number three receiver Steve Breaston will move into the starting position this Sunday against the Bills.
ATLANTA
The Falcons RB Michael Turner leads the NFL in rushing with 422 yards this season. This week the Falcon's rusher will have a favorable matchup on the road to facing the NFL's 26th ranked run defense (Green Bay). The Packers are allowing 157.8 yards rushing per game and 5.2 yards/carry this season.
CAROLINA
Last week Panther's quarterback Jake Delhomme had his best passing day of the season completing 20 of 29 passes for 294 yards with two touchdowns. For the season, Delhomme has completed 60% of his passes and thrown 3 touchdowns to only one pick. On Sunday he faces the Chiefs 14th ranked pass defense that has recorded only 3 sacks this season (tied for 29th).
CHICAGO
With WR Brandon Lloyd ruled OUT for Sunday and WR Marty Booker likely a game-time decision, the Bears WR/KR specialist Devin Hester could be elevated into the starting line-up and play a more prominent role in the offense.
DALLAS
The Cowboys are expected to get back to the running game quite a bit more this week. Last Sunday in their loss to the Redskins, RB Marion Barber had only 8 carries while rookie RB Felix Jones did not see any touches. This week against the Bengal's 28th ranked run defense (allowing 164 yds/game) the Boys will undoubtedly focus more on the run and get both Barber and Jones more involved with the offense.
DETROIT
According to the Lions Offensive coordinator Jim Colletto, the team will try to pick up the passing attack in week 5. Colletto is not throwing in the towel, but the team has not been effective on the ground in three games this season and has often found themselves falling behind early. The OC would like to open things up with more multiple receiver sets in hopes of manufacturing points faster.
GREEN BAY
The latest on QB Aaron Rodgers' status for Sunday; it appears that the chances of Rodgers playing Sunday look shaky at best according to Packernews.com. If Rodgers sits, back up rookie quarterback Mat Flynn would get the start.
MINNESOTA
It looks like the Vikings who play the New Orleans Saints on Monday night could be without LB EJ Henderson, who is doubtful and WR Bernard Berrian, who was just added to the injury reports on Friday. The good news is left tackle Bryant McKinnie will return with the team from his four game suspension.
NEW ORLEANS
The Saints, who will be facing the Minnesota Vikings and RB Adrian Peterson on Monday, will be without DT Sedrick Ellis. Ellis has started all four of the team's games so far this season. His absence will be a huge loss to a defense that faces a tough matchup with the Vikings Peterson.
NEW YORK GIANTS
The Giants are returning from their bye week with the NFL's 4th ranked defense overall. In three games this season the Giant's defense has recorded 13 sacks (tied 4th in the NFL) and has allowed only 1 rushing touchdown this season (tied for 3rd in NFL).
PHILADELPHIA
The Eagles RB Brian Westbrook returned to practice on Friday and was a full participant. While this is a good sign for Eagles fans, Westbrook remains questionable for Sunday. It appears that this could be a game-time decision with the likelihood of Westbrook actually returning to the field this week. If Westbrook does not make it back, then RB Correll Buckhalter would once again start in his place.
ST. LOUIS
The Rams will enjoy their week off to try and regroup and improve their struggling offense. The Rams offense in total yards ranks 30th overall in the league and their 43 points scored this season ranks last.
SAN FRANCISCO
The Niners new offense has not been a friend to third-year tight end Vernon Davis. In four starts this season, Davis has only recorded 5 catches for 87 yards, and last week against the Saints he had just one catch.
SEATTLE
The Seahawks receivers Deion Branch and Bobby Engram will return to the field this Sunday against the Giants. According to head coach Mike Holmgren, the hope is both receivers can play half the number of offensive plays called this Sunday.
TAMPA BAY
The Buccaneers WR Galloway continues to struggle with his foot injuries this season. Already ruled out for week 5, Galloway did not make the trip to Denver with the team for Sunday's game. There is timeline for Galloway's expected return.
WASHINGTON
The Redskins already without DE Jason Taylor, could be missing CB Shawn Springs from the line up on Sunday in their tilt with the Philadelphia Eagles. Springs sat out of practice on Friday, but head coach Jim Zorn has not ruled him out for week 5.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE
BALTIMORE
Reports out of the Raven's camp indicate that injured running back Willis McGahee could miss Sunday's matchup with the Titans. McGahee is listed as questionable and if he sits, RB LeRon McClain would start with rookie RB Ray Rice rotating at tailback.
BUFFALO
The Bills running back Marshawn Lynch has not had a fantastic start this season running the ball, only gaining 275 yards rushing this season. His 3.5 yards per carry ranks last among the top 15 rushers in the NFL, but his 4 rushing touchdowns have him ranked among the elite.
CINCINNATI
The Bengals have activated WR Chris Henry for this weekend's tilt with the Dallas Cowboys. In order to make room on the roster, the team released RB Kenny Watson. The team also signed free-agent RB Cedric Benson earlier in the week.
CLEVELAND
Last week the Browns were finally able to secure their first win, but they continue to struggle on offense and head into their bye week as the 2nd worst scoring offense in the NFL (11.5 pts/game). Both the running game (ranked 27th) and the pass (32nd) have been anemic this season, with QB Derek Anderson carrying a lot of weight. Anderson has struggled this season throwing only 3 touchdowns, while being intercepted 6 times.
DENVER
The Broncos WR Brandon Marshall aka "Optimus-Prime," leads all receivers in the NFL with 47 touches this season (in only 3 games played). In those games he's caught 31 passes (tied for NFL lead) for 398 receiving yards (4th in the NFL) and scored three touchdowns (tied for 5th). Prior to the start of the 2008 season, Marshall had set some lofty goals planning on 140 receptions, and he's well on his way.
HOUSTON
Last week QB Matt Schaub finally had a break out game, passing for 307 yards and throwing 3 touchdowns. Heading into Sunday the Texans will like to see their big time receiver Andre Johnson break out and get going early. So far the receiver has been in a little stall with only 15 catches on the year and no touchdowns.
INDIANAPOLIS
The Colts QB Peyton Manning comes off the bye ready to face a team (Texans) that he has averaged nearly 300 yards passing and thrown 10 touchdowns in his last four meetings. In three of those contests he has thrown 3 scores and twice he has passed for over 300 yards, not to mention Indy is 3-1 in those games.
JACKSONVILLE
The Jaguars defense ranked 18th overall will look to get healthy and make plays against a Steeler offense that has struggled to protect their quarterback. In four games this season the Jags have only reached the quarterback 5 times, but will matchup against an offensive line that has allowed 16 sacks.
KANSAS CITY
In his last two starts the Chiefs star RB Larry Johnson has rushed for 319 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. He has started to look more like the LJ we remember from 2006, when he ran for 1,789 yards (2nd in the NFL behind LT). This week the Chiefs will be on the road to face the Carolina Panthers, ranked 19th against the run.
MIAMI
Through three weeks of action RBs Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown have split the load in the backfield. Williams has 37 carries for 150 yards rushing, while Brown has carried the ball 34 times for 161 yards. In the passing game, Brown has caught 6 passes for 56 yards, and Williams has caught 7 passes for 37 yards. The big difference between the two backs, Brown has 5 rushing touchdowns and Williams none.
OAKLAND
The Raiders head into their bye week with one of the leagues worst passing offenses (ranked 27th). The good news for the Raider nation is in week 4 QB Jamarcus Russell finally played well throwing the ball for 277 yards and a score. With the week of rest, the Raiders 5th ranked rushing offense (led by McFadden, Bush, & Fargas) will be able to get healthy and resume its productive ways.
PITTSBURGH
The Steelers are without RB Willie Parker this Sunday and with rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall just being added to the injured reserve, back-up runner Mewelde Moore will make the start against the Jaguars. Recently signed RB Najeh Davenport could also see action on Sunday.
NEW ENGLAND
The Patriots return to action this week and both QB Matt Cassell and WR Randy Moss hope to find some semblance of chemistry. In their first two full games together, the two have only hooked up 6 times for 47 yards with no touchdowns. Facing the Niners 19th ranked pass defense on Sunday, these two will look to change their luck.
NEW YORK JETS
Following his career day passing last Sunday when he threw six touchdowns, the Jets quarterback Brett Favre sits atop the NFL's passing elite with a 110.8 passer rating (best in NFL). Favre has completed 70% of his passes this season (2nd in the league), and he also leads all passers with 12 touchdowns.
SAN DIEGO
The Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers is having one of his best starts of his career. Through the teams first four games, Rivers has thrown for 1,024 yards and tossed 10 touchdowns (2nd in NFL). Rivers' passer rating of 109.8 ranks 2nd and his 9.3 yards per pass is best in the league.
TENNESSEE
The Titans pass defense has recorded 15 sacks (tied for 2nd in NFL) and 8 interceptions (tied for most) this season. They are lead by DL Albert Haynesworth who has 5 sacks and DB Cortland Finnegan who has 4 picks through 4 games.
