Week Five
“Sunday’s Heroes”

Week Five in the NFL…

It was another weekend of NFL action with Sunday gladiators batting brilliantly and bringing honor to the Gridiron. With all of the Sunday action concluded, we recognize those warriors that rose above the rest to stand tall once more amongst the defeated.

In San Francisco before a hostile crowd, Falcon’s running back Michael Turner found great success on the ground. Turner toted the rock 22 times for 97 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns.

On the road facing the St. Louis Rams, the Viking’s running back Adrian Peterson found some success of his own. Peterson only carried the ball 15 times, but he rushed for 69 yards and scored two touchdowns in the team’s victory.

The Cowboy’s running back Tashard Choice needed only eight carries Sunday to do his damamge. Choice gained 92 yards on the ground for a hefty 11.5-yards per carry average and scored on a 36 yard run to help the cause.

The Giant’s starting quarterback Eli Manning was perfect on Sunday against the Raiders and needed only 10 passes to do so. Manning was 8 out of 10 passing for 173 yards and two touchdowns. He also finished the game with a perfect passer rating of 158.3.

The Seahawk’s starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck made his return on Sunday and what a difference he made. Hasselbeck was nearly flawless completing 18 of 30 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns to lead his team.

The Eagle’s quarter Donovan McNabb also made his return from injury on Sunday. With an extra week of preparation Mcnabb showed no signs of rust completing 16 of 21 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns. McNabb also added 30 yards on two scrambles to go along with his 157.2 passer rating.

Typically known as a running team, Steeler’s quarterback Ben roethlisberger is quickly changing the team’s identity. The big-time arm threw for 277 yards on 23 of 30 passing and also tossed three touchdowns.

The Bronco’s playmaking receiver Brandon Marshall scored a touchdown for his third consecutive game. Playing a big part in the Bronco’s win on Sunday, Marshall caught eight passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

The Seahawk’s top free agent acquisition from the offseason continues to come on strong lately. Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh caught five passes for 77 yards and scored twice to help lead his team.

The Cardinal’s wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald showed folks on Sunday some of what makes him great. Fitz caught five passes for 79 yards and scored two touchdowns to help the Cards win.

The Seahawk’s other receiver Nate Burleson continued to show why he is one of the leagues best at his position. Burleson caught six passes on Sunday for 98 yards and added two scores in the Seahawks victory.

In the weekly night cap, one of the Colt’s rookie receiver Austin Collie made huge contributions in the team’s win. Collie grabbed eight Manning passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the winning effort.

These were just a few of Week five’s Gridiron Gladiators. Check out the rest of Sunday’s Heroes from today’s action;

FSH: SUNDAY MORNING GAMETIME

October 11th, 2009 7:27am PST

Sunday Morning Gametime

What’s the Latest
[ News and Notes]

Galloway to be inactive today against Broncos….
ESPN is reporting wide receiver Joey Galloway will be inactive. For fantasy owners not much concern there, Galloway has yet to find a rhythm with quarterback Tom Brady, but this move would also indicate Wes Welker is likely to go…..

Johnson could be fantasy sleeper today.…
The Chief’s running back has been seeing a steady diet of 20 touches per game the last three weeks. Today Johnson will face the Cowboys

Moreno could see a lot of work against the Patriots…..
The Bronco’s as a team are averaging 32 rushing attempts per game in 2009. Today rookie running back Knowshon Moreno (60 carries) will get the start with running back Correll Buckhalter ruled OUT…….

Hasselbeck is likely to play today against Jaguars…
The Seahawks quarterback practiced this week and is expected to play today, but could be a big risk if he suffers any kind of big hits today. Owners might be wise to look for better options…..

No Jones or Williams today for Cowboys….
With both running back Felix Jones and wide receiver Roy Williams OUT today, backups Tashard Choice and number two receiver Patrick Crayton could play bigger roles today against the Chiefs……

Steelers running back Mendenhall to start again….
With Willie Parker ruled OUT today, second year runner Rashard Mendenhall’s get the start today. Facing a mediocre Lion’s run defense, Mendenhall could be in line for another big day……

Finnegan questionable tonight, likely game-time….
With the Titan’s secondary banged up, they need Finnegan back for tonight’s matchup with the pass-happy Colts. The Colts are putting the ball up with great frequency this season, meaning Titan safety Chris Hope could be in line for a big day…..

Culpepper expected to start against Steelers….
Going up against the Steelers today, Culpepper has very little fantasy value as a starter. The Steeler’s defense has not been dominant against the pass, but with Culpepper’s tendency to hold the ball the Steelers could greatly improve on their eight sacks for the season…..

FSH: THE ATL REPORT

THE ATL REPORT

What’s Happening
Around the League

RB-Felix Jones does not travel with team….
The Cowboys running back Felix Jones did not travel with the team to Kansas City. His return is expected in week six following the bye. With Jones out, it will be the Barber and Choice show on Sunday……

WR-Jerricho Cotchery does not practice Saturday.…
The Jet’s receiver is listed as questionable for Monday night, but his prognosis is not looking good. With Cotchery out, the newest Jet’s receiver (Braylon) Edwards could see more flight time……

QB-Eli Manning looks ready to go…..
The Giant’s quarterback appears set to make his 76th consecutive start. Manning practice in full Friday and looked good showing no ill effects from his foot injury. Manning also participated in the team’s walk-through on Saturday, but he’s still likely to be a gametime decision…..

QB-Matt Stafford to be Game-time decision…
The Lion’s rookie is dealing with a knee injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday, but he has yet to be ruled OUT. Head coach Jim Schwatrz won’t announce his start until Sunday…….

DB-Bob Sanders travels with Colts, could play….
The Colt’s safety has yet to play a game this season and although he’s traveling with the team it’s still iffy whether he’ll be able to suit up. Although Sanders was able to practice on a limited basis this week he is still doubtful for Sunday…..

WR-Braylon Edwards impressing new coaches….
The Jet’s new receiver has been practicing with the team and impressing with his quick study. Edwards recently signed by the team has a firm grasp of the verbiage and formations and could play a featured role in the passing game Monday night…..

WR-Austin Miles will make start for injured wideout….
With starting receiver Roy E. Williams banged up and OUT for Sunday, Miles will get the start in his place. While Miles gets the start, wide receiver Sam Hurd should see plenty of time on the field as well……

(Your weekly Stock Exchange)

The Hottest Stock this week

Week four saw one of the fantasy stock market newer stocks take a huge leap up the charts with a fantastic performance last Sunday. The Jaguars quarter David Garrard was nearly flawless making clutch throws and timely run to lead his team to a surprise week four win. At times Garrard was dominant hitting on all cylinders and completing 27 of 37 passes for over 300 yards in the air.

His 31 fantasy points last week were amongst the best and make this Jaguar not only the hottest stock, but also Mr. Enfuego for week four.

Week Four's "Mr. En Fuego"

QB-David Garrard (Jax)-
37 pass attempts, 27 pass completions,
323 yards passing, three touchdowns!!
8 runs, 38 rushing yards.

Aside from your typical weekly stud performers, when playing the fantasy football stock market, the key is finding those hidden gems that have great value and lots of upside and also know which stocks are moving in which direction. After four weeks of action there are plenty more stocks on the move;

Week four Stock Exchange Notes:

The Quarterbacks...
Fire (Rising stock): The old man in Minnesota has suddenly found the fountain of youth once again. Last Monday night Viking’s quarterback Brett Favre had another solid outing passing for 271 yards and throwing three more touchdowns. His recent success has his stock shooting up the charts.
Fire (Rising stock): The Bronco’s quarterback Kyle Orton is not setting any records, but from week to week he is consistently improving. After passing for 243 yards and throwing two touchdowns last week, his stock is on the rise.

The Running Backs...
Fire (Rising stock): In week four running back Rashard Menndenhall had his coming out party with 29 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns. With a ver favorable matchup this Sunday against the Lions his stock is soaring.
Fire (Rising stock): the Bronco’s rookie running back Knowshon Moreno has been consistently solid the past couple of weeks scoring in each of his past two gaems. With injury elevating him to the starting this role, Moreno’s stock is on the move.
Ice (falling stock): With an ankle injury basically sidelining Patriots running back Fred Taylor indefinitely, his stock is spiraling downward fast. It’s time to dump this stock.

The Wide Receivers...
Fire (Rising stock): Already a waiver wire favorite this week Brown’s rookie receiver Mohamed Massaquoi appears to be heating up after an eight catch 148 yard performance last Sunday. With a good matchup this week against the Bills secondary, the rookie is climbing fast.
Fire (Rising stock): One of the big reasons the Jaguar’s quarterback was so good last week was the play of wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker. Last Sunday Walker caught seven passes for 91 yards, but two of those grabs were for scores. His stock is moving up the boards quickly.
Ice (falling stock): The Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has been struggling to stay healthy the past several weeks. Last Sunday he returned to action, but caught six passes for just 48 yards. As long as he remains less than 100 percent his stock will likely continue to fall.

The Tight Ends...
Fire (Rising stock): After his fabulous play Monday night second year tight end Jermichael Finley looks like a cash cow ready to pay some nice dividends. Against the Vikings he snagged six catches for 128 yards and score and looked very good doing so. Expect to see his stock continue to rise.
Ice (falling stock): The Raider’s passing game continues to struggle and along with it so will Zach Miller’s stock. The tight end has been seeing fewer balls lately and finished with only three catches last Sunday. Expect to see his stock continue to dwindle.

This Week’s “Stock Trends”
Here’s how they are doing;

Peyton Manning….the Colts quarterback is averaging over 300 yards passing and leads the league with nine touchdown passes.
Ronnie Brown….the Dolphins running back has averaged 122 yards of offense and scored four touchdowns over his last three games.
Pierre Thomas…..the Saints running back has averaged 129 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns in his last two games.
Steve Smith…..the Giants receiver has been on a real tear over his last three games catching 28 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns.
Brandon Marshall….the Broncos receiver is finally showing some real life averaging 79 yards receiving and a score in his last two starts.
Derrick Mason…..the Raven’s veteran receiver has averaged six catches, 103 yards receiving and a score in his last two starts.
Brent Celek…..the Eagles tight end is just continuing where he left off from last season, with 22 receptions, 245 yards receiving, and two touchdowns to start the 2009 campaign.

Drew Brees…..the Saints quarterback, normally a juggernaut has not passed for more than 200 yards or thrown a touchdown pass in his last two games.
Laurence Maroney…..the Patriots running back is only averaging 19 yards from scrimmage in his last three games.
Earnest Graham…..the Buccaneers running back appears lost in the shuffle with just 11 touches (8 rushes, 3 receptions) this season.
Eddie Royal…..the Bronco’s second year receiver is averaging a meager 14 receiving yards in his first four games this season.
Darius Heyward-Bey…..the Raider’s rookie receiver has only caught two passes this season for only 36 yards.
Laveranues Coles…..the Bengal’s wideout has not been much of a fantasy producer this season and in his last two games he’s averaging a mere 29 yards receiving.

NFL Week 5 Matchups

(Sunday’s Games)
Cinncinati @ Baltimore
The Bengal’s quarterback Carson Palmer (845 yards passing) and wide receiver Chad Ochocino (3 touchdowns receptions) will try to connect often this Sunday at Baltimore. The Raven’s 23rd ranked pass defense which has allowed 15 plays of 20 yards or more could have their hands full, if they don’t cut down the big plays.

Cleveland @ Buffalo
The Bills 25th ranked passing offense (180 yards per game) which has often looked in reverse committing turnovers (five in 2009) and miscues will try to get healthy Sunday. The Brown’s defense ranks 21st against the pass, recording seven sacks this season, but just one interception.

Washington @ Carolina
The Panther’s running back DeAngelo Williams is off to a very slow start this season with only 180 yards on the ground. The Redskins 22nd ranked run defense has been less than stellar this season allowing 4.3 yards per carry and 128 yard per game

Pittsburgh @ Detroit
The Steelers’ passing game has thrived this season led by quarterback Ben Roethliseberger, who has completed over 70 percent of his passes and averaged nearly 300 yards passing per game. The Lion’s secondary will be facing an uphill task on Sunday ranked 25th against the pass and having allowed 12 touchdown via the pass this season.

Dallas @ Kansas City
The Cowboys may look to lean on quarterback Tony Romo who has averaged 247 yards passing this season, but has only four touchdown passes. The Chiefs pass defense ranks 28th against the pass this season allowing eight touchdowns and 250 yards per game.

Oakland @ NY Giants
The Giants running back Brandon Jacobs has yet to have a big game this season, but is averagine 92 yards on the ground his last two starts. The Raider’s 26th ranked run defense could be in for a long day allowing 146 yards rushing per game.

Tampa Bay @ Philadelphia
The Buccaneer’s offensive line has done a pretty good job this season protecting the quarterback only allowing five sacks in the team’s first four games. In 2009 the Eagles defense has not been quite as dominant as the past, but in three games their defense has recorded 10 sacks and six interceptions.

Minnesota @ St.Louis
The Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has 84 carries this season for 412 yards rushing. The Rams 24th ranked run defense has been awful this season allowing 135 yards on the ground per game.

Atlanta @ San Francisco
The Falcons running back Michael Turner has 226 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdown on 65 carries in three games this season. Heading into Sunday’s matchup the Niner’s run defense ranks 4th in the league and is only allowing 3.1 yards per carry.

Houston @ Arizona
The Cardinal’s quarterback Kurt Warner (4 touchdowns) and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (17 receptions) have yet to really click this season. The Texans will bring the leagues 9th ranked pass defense into the desert with only two interceptions and five sacks this season.

New England @ Denver
The Bronco’s rookie running back Knowshow Moreno has 249 yards rushing (ranks 16 in rushing) this season. The Patriots have played pretty good defense this season (ranked 11th against the run), but they have seen the 4th fewest attempts this season and allowed 4.5 yard per clip.

Jacksonville @ Seattle
Over the past two weeks Jaguar’s quarterback David Garrard has completed nearly 68 percent of his passes while throwing for 537 yards with four touchdowns (3 pass, 1 run). The Seahawks defense has been able to get some pressure this season with nine sacks, but their coverage has been suspect allowing nearly 68 percent completions.

Indianapolis @ Tennessee
The Colt’s quarterback Peyton Manning has been on a tear averaging 334 yards passing per game. The Titan’s banged up secondary needs to get healthy soon, through the first four weeks it has allowed 10 passing touchdowns and 15 plays of 20 yards or more.

FSH: THE FANTASY SPORTS ZONE (CARRYING THE LOAD)

October 9th, 2009 10:37pm PST

THE FANTASY FIXX

Carrying the Load: Week Five

With so many teams employing the dreaded running back by committee, it becomes difficult to determine if there are any featured backs left and even trickier to decide is if either committee-back is truly worth a weekly start. These are never easy questions to answers, but with a little research, the proof is always in the numbers.

While his numbers have not been solid this season, make no mistake at least for the time being Kevin Smith is the featured running back in Detroit. His 93 touches ranks fourth this season and his three rushing touchdowns have kept him a decent fantasy start this season.

Running out of option in your backfield, consider a back like Ricky Williams. Over in Miami, while Ronnie Brown takes the brunt of the load running the ball, Williams is still seeing his fair share of work with 61 touches this season.

Thus far is this early season, we haven’t seen the production you would expect from an elite runner, but there’s no question Steven Jackson is getting all the chances to breakout. Through the first four weeks this season he leads all running backs with 103 plays. He’s had some good production this season, but faces a stiff test against the Vikings on Sunday. One important thing to note; if he stays healthy and keeps getting the rock, he’s eventually going to get numbers and better later than sooner.

The Busy man….
Last Sunday in his first start as a rookie running back Glenn Coffee saw plenty of opportunity with 31 touches. In his past two games Coffee has been the primary option in 57 plays and this week could see him featured as much against the Falcons 25th ranked run defense. Coffee has only averaged 64 yards on the ground the past two weeks, but Sunday he’ll see a defense that is allowing 4.7 yards per rushing attempt.

It’s still unknown if running back Jamal Lewis will be available on Sunday, but backup Jerome Harrison is seeing plenty of action in his absence. In Harrison’s past two starts for the Brown’s he’s had a total of 59 plays and totaled 237 yards of offense. With Lewis a big question mark, Harrison is in line to see plenty of work against the Bills 27th ranked run defense.

Despite the recent success of Raven’s running back Willis McGahee (7 total touchdowns) coming off the bench, normal starter Ray Rice continues to carry most of the load and be a safe option. This season Rice has seen 73 plays in four games and is averaging 107 yards of offense per game. With his six yards per carry average ranking him near the top in the league and 16 receptions this season, Rice’s great versatility makes it easier for the Ravens to put the ball in his hands.

Their time could be coming…
With his first career start expected this Sunday against the Patriots, rookie running back Knowshon Moreno looks primed for his time to come now. Normally splitting carries in the Denver backfield, Moreno has been limited to 64 plays in four games. With starter Correll Buckhalter sidelined, it appears the rookie is in line to see an increase in his workload this week.

It’s no secret that the Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has fallen for favor with fantasy owners, but despite his unimpressive start this season, something should be noted. Johnson ranks in the top 10 this season with 82 plays and in his last three starts he’s averaged 23 plays. If L.J. has anything left, he’s getting plenty of opportunity to show it and Sunday he’ll face the Cowboy’s 18th ranked run defense.

It hasn’t been a great start this season for running back Ryan Grant with only 257 yards rushing and a 3.8 yards per carry average. For the moment nothing has been attributed to his slow start, other than just not finding the holes. He may not be seeing the creases just yet, but Grant is getting plenty of opportunity to look with 78 plays this season. So long as the Packers keep feeding Grant the ball, he should eventually produce.

The Most Utilized

Plays included running or catching the ball, as well as being the intended receiver of a pass. Here is the breakdown for fantasy running backs logging the most work (plays) and staying busy this season;

FSH: FRIDAY FOOTBALL DIARY

October 9th, 2009 11:07pm PST

Friday Football Diary

Dear Diary

Not only did we see a 40 year old turn back the clock this past Monday night, but we also saw greatness shine one more time. Was it his coming out party for 2009 or just vintage Favre being the legendary quarterback that he’s become? Either way Monday night Brett Favre not only recaptured some of his youth with some fantastic throws, but he also set an NFL record with his win over the Packers (his former team). In his illustrious career, Favre has now not only faced every team in the league he has also defeated every one of them (a NFL record).

And just as we watched one player take a dip into the fountain of youth, on Sunday we saw another come of age and one get a large does of reality. The Giant’s receiver Steve Smith sure seems to have really blossomed into something special this season, with 34 receptions and 411 receiving yards to lead the league. He has reached that pivotal third season and appears to be flourishing on schedule out of the shadow of Plaxico Burress.

The Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez has been sensational this season, leading his team to a fast start at 3-0, but in week four he got a large does of reality. Now he didn’t really think it would be that easy. Last Sunday against the Saints, he was pressured (sacked four times), confused (3 of 12 on third down), and forced into making mistakes (four turnovers). Fantasy owners must remember he’s only a rookie, but he will learn and get better.

Sanchez may not appear to be the safest fantasy play these days, but he’s got plenty of upside and has already shown great poise. Fantasy owners needn’t worry about this kid bouncing back he’s got plenty of resolve just give him time.

Now on the other hand take a look a some players that may not be the best plays at the moment;

On Shaky Ground

Slow starts, struggles to get out of the gate, and not finding their rhythm early this season may have some fantasy owners sweating it out;

Questionable Plays for the moment:

QB-Mark Sanchez………..…….only 4 TD passes and five Ints.
RB-Jamal Lewis…..…95 yards rushing, just one touchdown.
RB-LaDanian Tomlinson….….70 yards rushing this season.
RB-Laurence Maroney………..78 yards rushing this season.
WR-Eddie Royal……………….……..just 8 receptions in 2009.
WR-Donnie Avery…….…..just 109 receiving yards in 2009.
WR-Dwayne Bowe………..just 107 receiving yards in 2009.
WR-Chris Henry……....just 78 yards receiving this season.
TE-Tony Scheffler…...just 71 yards receiving this season.
TE-Anthony Fasano….…just 4 catches, 18 yards in 2009.

10 Things to Watch for in Week 5

Here’s what I will be watching this Sunday afternoon and keeping my eyes on throughout the day;

  1. Will Terrell Owens (just 8 receptions) finally breakout against a questionable Cleveland secondary?2
  2. Can Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco get the passing game going this week against the Raven’s 23rd ranked pass defense?
  3. Will Earth (Jacobs) and Fire (Bradshaw) run for big yardage on Sunday against the Raider’s 26th ranked run defense?
  4. Can “Kid Sensation” (Mark Sanchez) rebound Monday night with a solid performance on the road at Miami?
  5. Which stud receiver will have the bigger game this Sunday, Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald?
  6. How will Bronco’s rookie running back Knowshon Moreno do Sunday against the Patriots in his first NFL start?
  7. Can Colts quarterback Peyton Manning keep up his torrid passing pace on the road this week against the Titans?
  8. Can Mike Singletary and his improved Niners continue their solid play this Sunday against the Falcons?
  9. Will the Vikings running back Adrian Peterson run for over 200 yards this week against the Ram’s 24th ranked run defense?
  10. How will Eagle’s quarterback Donovan McNabb and running Brian Westbrook do now that they are healthy enough to return to the lineup?

Running back Brian Westbrook and quarterback Donovan McNabb were full participants in practice on Friday. Both are listed as probable and fully expected to start Sunday. Wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) continues to struggle with health issues missing practice Friday. The rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin would start if the injured Curtis can’t go.
Falcons:
Running back Jerious Norwood, who has missed the team’s last last game due to a concussion he suffered in week 2 will play Sunday according to head coach Mike Smith.
Giants:
The G-men will in all likelihood have their starting quarterback Eli Manning (foot) for Sunday. Manning practiced in full on Friday and appears determined to play. Tight end Kevin Boss (ankle) is listed as doubtful after not practicing all week and is unlikely to go against the Raiders.
Jets:
The Jet’s receiver Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) is listed as questionable after not practicing Friday. He’s not 100 percent according to head coach Rex Ryan, but he’s not been ruled out for Monday.
Lions:
Quarterback Matthew Stafford (knee) was limited on Friday and is questionable for Sunday. With the team yet to announce a starter, it sounds like head coach Jim Schwartz is still hopeful the rookie can play or just doesn’t want to give Pittsburgh anything for Sunday. Both running back Kevin Smith (shoulder) and wide receiver Calvin Johnson (quad) are probable and expected to play.
Niners:
Running back Frank Gore (ankle) is listed OUT for Sunday against the Falcons and will begin testing the ankle next week. The team is hopeful for his return against the Texans (Oct. 25) following the team’s bye week.
Patriots:
Running back Fred Taylor is OUT for Sunday after undergoing ankle surgery. There’s no timetable on his return, but the team is hopeful he will be back this season. Linebacker Jerod Mayo (knee) is listed as questionable, but he is expected to return Sunday according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.
Panthers:
Second year running back Jonathan Stewart has been battling an Achilles injury, but was able to practice in full Friday. It appears he’ll likely see action Sunday against the Redskins.
Raiders:
Tight end Zach Milller (concussion) returned to a full practice on Friday and is expected to start Sunday against the Giants according to the Oakland Tribune. Running back Darren McFadden is OUT for Sunday recovering from knee surgery; he’s expected back in 2-4 weeks.
Rams:
Quarterback Marc Bulger (shoulder) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday. Bulger is unlikely to play and back up Kyle Boller is expected to get his second start according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Ravens:
Wide receiver Derrick Mason (neck) was limited in practice Friday, but is probable for Sunday against the Bengals according to the Baltimore Sun.
Seahawks:
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (rib) practiced Friday for the third consecutive day and is listed as probable. He’s likely to play, but could be a risky play if he sustains any hard hits.
Steelers:
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, running back Willie Parker (toe) has been ruled OUT for Sunday and back up Rashard Mendenhall will get his second consecutive start.
Titans:
Starting defensive back Courtland Finnegan (hamstring) did not practice Friday with the team, but expects to play Sunday night against the Colts. The team’s other starting cornerback Nick Harper (ribs) says he will play Sunday against the Colts. Wide receiver Nate Washington practiced all week and is probable according to the team’s site.

THE FANTASY QWIK FIXX

Target Practice: Week Five in the NFL

We are always in search of knowledge and more importantly that all important commodity information. If you are planning on setting a winning fantasy football lineup for week 5, then you better be in the know and certain which players are going to perform this week.

Now that we are a quarter of the way into the season, we can start to discuss trends, note tendencies, but more notably recognize that numbers don’t lie. This week’s focus for the fantasy fanatics is more target practice. If you are looking for much needed help heading into week 5, you’ve targeted the right place and we’ve got your fix.

Who’s worried….
The numbers are down somewhat at the moment, but fantasy owners should not panic when it comes to the Falcon’s wide receiver Roddy White. In his first three games this season he has been targeted 26 times, indicating it’s just a matter of time before he’s back on track. Taking into account White’s late arrival to camp, he’s sure to have shaken the rust by now, so owners can expect to see better production from him soon.

His first two games were quiet, just 61 yards receiving, but over the past two weeks it appears the Bronco’s playmaking receiver Brandon Marshall is starting to come to life. In the past two weekends Marshall has grabbed nine balls for 158 yards and scored two touchdowns. For the season Marshall has been targeted consistently (28 times) and it finally looks like he’s starting to heat up. Fantasy owners can now look forward to seeing more great things from “Baby T.O.”

One of the newer additions to the Titan’s passing game this season is former Steeler’s receiver Nate Washington. He was brought in to give quarterback Kerry Collins and the Titan’s a legitimate deep threat in the aerial attack and while things haven’t quite panned out as planned fantasy owners shouldn’t get too nervous. While Washington does only have 14 receptions for 135 yards, he’s had plenty of opportunity with 31 targets this season indicating the prospect of a much better second quarter of the season.

Another pass catcher off to a disappointing start that should not be overlooked is the Bear’s tight end Greg Olsen. With just 10 receptions and only 94 yards, it becomes very easy for owners to give up on the former Miami Hurricane; mistake. In the team’s first four games, Olsen has been consistently targeted and has seen a total of 25 balls thrown his direction. The numbers aren’t there yet, but give it time he and his quarterback will soon be on the same page.

Keep your Eye on these targets…
If you caught the matchup between the Bengals and Browns this past Sunday, sure it was a marathon of a lot of nothing, but after taking a closer look it’s hard to avoid the emergence of rookie receiver Mohamed Massaquoi. The kid snagged eight balls for about a buck and a half, but the more compelling factor were the 13 balls thrown his way. With Derek Anderson now in the huddle, Massaquoi looks like he’ll be the favorite by far.

After seeing only one pass in his direction in week one, the Jaguars receiver Mike Sims-Walker is quickly regaining some of the notoriety he earned in small stints a year ago. In his past three starts Walker has seen a total of 30 balls thrown his way and he has delivered with fantasy-like production; 19 receptions, 278 yards, 3 touchdowns.

Here is the breakdown for fantasy pass catchers (targets) this season;
