Fantasy Notes:

Hightower Expected to Play?
The Redskins may have running back Tim Hightower available today and he could see some work, but the smart money will be on Ryan Torain to see the brunt. Coming off an impressive performance in week 4 by Torain, Hightower may have to take a backseat today. Likely with limited duty today, Hightower will have limited fantasy value in standard league; you may want to avoid.

Cowboys Offense at Full-strength
With their biggest matchup this season to date, the Cowboys will be traveling to Foxboro fully equipped with their best weapons. Both wide receivers Dez Bryant and Miles Austin will join tight end Jason Witten on the field today. This will be the first time the three have been healthy and on the field together since week one. Whether or not that will be enough firepower to match the explosive offense of the Patriots, we’ll have to wait and see, but it certainly upgrades quarterback Tony Romo to a “must-start” fantasy play this week.

Addai OUT, Carter and Brown to handle duties
With running back Joseph Addai sidelined today, back-ups (rookie) Delone Carter and Donald Brown will share the workload in the backfield. This could be a coin-flip for desperate fantasy owners looking for help at the running back position. The Bengals boast one of the league’s toughest run defenses and could make it tough for both backs all day. Only Carter could offer some hope in PPR leagues with his

Starks in line for a Good Day
The Packers will host the Rams today and running back James Starks could be in line for a big day. With the Rams allowing the third most fantasy points to running backs, expect Starks to benefit with a good day on the ground and a trip to paydirt.

A Quiet Harvin Could Make Noise Today
The Vikings playmaking wide receiver Percy Harvin has been relatively quiet this season with just 18 receptions and no touchdowns. With the Bears 27th ranked pass defense on the slate next, this could be Harvin’s coming out party. The Vikings will likely try to get the ball into Harvin’s hands many different ways. With the game plan likely focused around running back Adrian Peterson, expect some deception and play-action use to isolate Harvin into favorable matchups; if you have him, play him.

Sunday Morning Gametime

It’s week one of the NFL and plenty to get excited about with some key matchups, many personnel changes and a new season at hand. For fantasy owners there are a lot of questions to pose heading into week one and many answers to be found; is this the year of Stafford, how good is Stafford, what about the Colts’ receivers without Manning, and how much action with Chris Johnson see? These are just a few of many we hope to have answered today.

Watch-list

Today’s fantasy watch-list should also include quarterback Donovan McNabb’s impact in Minnesota, does he have anything left in the tank. There should also be plenty of interest in wide receiver Lee Evan’s arrival in Baltimore; will he be able to stretch the field? Let’s not forget about another subtle change that has fantasy interest, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck in Tennessee; can he bring stability to the position and help revive the Titans offense in a division that now looks up for grabs.

Today’s quick notes:

The Eagles will take their 2011show on the road today visiting the St. Louis Rams and they will have the services of recently acquired wide receiver Steve Smith. It remains to be seen how involved Smith will be coming off of injury, for fantasy owners this is a wait-and-see situation.

The Texans will likely be preparing for a running-back-by-committee game plan as it is being reported that Arian Foster is not expected to play today. With their number one sidelined running backs Derrick Ward and Ben Tate will split carries and the Texans passing game could receive a boost.

The Colts will roll into the 2011 football season with a new field general under center, quarterback Kerry Collins. There’s no question Collins is a capable leader and quarterback, but can he command these troops in Indianapolis to near the same level as Peyton? That’s a tall order for any quarterback and with the change, for fantasy owners you will have to devalue all Colts receiver some until we can see what Collins can bring to the table.


Notable Matchups;

The Rams second year quarterback Sam Bradford is looking to have a very good sophomore season and by all counts he should, but today against the Eagles he will face a stiff test. With the additions of Cullen Jenkins (DL), Nnamdi Asomugha (DB), and Dominique Rogers-Cromartie(DB), this could be one exam he could struggle to find the answers today.

Listening to some of the early reports, it sounds like the Texans will be making plans without running back Arian Foster, but they may not need him. Quarterback Matt Schaub and the Texans will face a depleted Colts offense without Peyton Manning and could be primed to strike; add wide receivers Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, and tight end Owen Daniels and the prospects look good.

The Chargers will look to start fast in 2011 and will have tight end Antonio Gates on the field today against the Vikings. Gates has been one of the league’s best tight ends and will present a lot of matchup problems for the Vikings; he could have a big game today.

The Giant’s defense is battered leading into week one and will be tested today by Mike Shanahan’s and his Redskins’ running game. Tim Hightower the team’s new starter should see a heavy dose today and could be very effective. Hightower could also make an impact in the short passing game, remember he caught 63 balls back in 2009.

My Picks Today

My “Four Horsemen”

QB-Matt Stafford; I have him in several leagues and believe he will stay upright this season. He starts in Tampa today and with some nice complimentary weapons and “Megatron” on the perimeter, he should kick start things in high fashion today.

RB-LeSean McCoy; One of the league’s top running backs, but receiving very little fanfare in the early part of the season. I like McCoy out of the backfield a lot today against the Rams.

WR-Roddy White; The talk this preseason has been Julio Jones, but you can bet quarterback Matt Ryan remembers his favorite target (White). With Jones receiving a lot of notoriety, White could remind folks why they had not better forget about him; he could be big today against the Bears.

TE-Owen Daniels; there’s little chance that the colts will be able to stop Andre Johnson, but you know they will have to throw a safety over the top and roll coverage his direction; and when they do tight end Owen Daniels will step up. Lets’ not forget just three seasons ago Daniels caught 70 balls for over 800 yards.

Friday’s Fantasy Watch

The 2011 NFL season got started off with more than a bang last night. The matchup between the Saints and Packers was more like an explosion with a 42-34 final. The contest was played more like a chess match with each team matching the other move for move.

Unfortunately for the Saints, their last move may not have been their best resulting in check-mate for the Pack. But still football fans and fantasy die-hards alike had to be pleased with what they saw. If last night was just a small preview of what is to come this NFL season, then everyone better hold on tight; this could be one wild ride!

Week one is under way and though we saw plenty of fireworks on Thursday night with over 700 yards passing and ten touchdowns scored, there is still a lot more to come on Sunday. With fantasy owners checking the injury reports and latest news-wires, there are some of us madly searching and keeping our eyes open for those hidden gems that could be the difference.

ON MY WATCH

TIM HIGHTOWER, RB (Redskins)
It’s probably a little too soon to start making too many bold predictions, but it’s never out of style to take a leap of faith, especially when you play a game called “fantasy” football. Maybe this is not a big leap, more like a hop, but one player on my watch for Sunday will be Redskins running back Tim Hightower. I saw enough of the kid during the preseason to make a believer of me; his 170 yards rushing and 6.8 rushing average were enough for me.

He’ll face a questionable Giants defense, ranked 8th last season against the run, but banged up and missing a few important cogs on Sunday. Umenyiora (knee) has been ruled out, Tuck (stinger) is uncertain, and team recently lost middle linebacker Jonathan Goff (torn ACL) for the season. This could be a very sweet matchup for Hightower.

MATT HASSELBECK, QB (Titans)
There was probably no one more excited about the signing of running back ChrisJohnson than quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The 12 year veteran endured some rough times in Seattle, but now in Tennessee with a better offensive line and strong running game with the return of CJ2K, Hasselbeck could suddenly find some of that 2007 form when he threw 28 touchdowns.

This Sunday the former Seahawk will square off against the Jacksonville Jaguars secondary and a pass rush (26 sacks last season) that ranked near the bottom a year ago. With CJ2K in the backfield, that should be able to keep the wolves at bay and allow Hasselbeck time to work the ball to some reliable receivers in (WR) Kenny Britt and (TE) Jared Cook. We wouldn’t look for big numbers on Sunday, but a pair of scores and two bills in the air could make any fantasy owner’s day.

These two may not be in your lineups on Sunday, but if you’re facing tough decisions and not sure where to look for help keep your eyes on these two. They both could provide the relief you might need down the road.

FANTASY FOOTBALL NOTES

We are less than one day away from the official start of the 2011 NFL season. Even though most fantasy drafts should be complete by this point, it’s still worth taking a look and quick peek into most backfields to see what ball carriers will rise, fall, and emerge this season. Here’s my run on this year’s running backs.

Let’s just put the argument to rest, when you start at the top, you have to start with Adrian Peterson. He seems to be the consensus number one is most every league I have seen. He’s a feature back, has no serious injury concerns heading into the season, and has scored 54 touchdowns in four seasons. AP will lead the pack, but running backs Chris Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Arian Foster, and Ray Rice are not far behind.

From there you will get into the MJD’s, LeSean McCoy’s and Peyton Hillis’ who will round out the top 20 to 25. Once we get into the third and fourth tier of running backs , the talent pool will shallow out, and that’s when you have to start doing some digging.

DEEP IN THE BACKFIELD

It’s been what seems like a very short and very quick preseason, but in the four weeks of action one running back in a crowded backfield in Washington has really caught my eye; Tim Hightower. He’s certainly not the cream of the crop, but he has been impressive thus far and in a Shanahan “run-system” he could really fare well. Hightower averaged nearly seven yards per carry facing mostly first string defenses and his versatility as a pass catcher (63 receptions in 2009) could find him spending quite of bit of time on the field. He’s not going to be a feature back, but he looks like a good call to see the lion’s share of work; at least early in the season.

Another ball carrier that has turned my head is the Bronco’s third year running back Knowshon Moreno. Now most folks figure with the arrival of John Fox, the Bronco’s offense is going to become more of a ground attack, but the addition of Willis McGahee does not necessarily mean a time-share. In Carolina Fox had two relative young backs to feed the rock, but in Denver McGahee enters his 9th season and does not figure to step into an expanded role. Moreno has been impressive this preseason and has a well balanced skill-set in the run and pass game. He may lose a few short-yardage and goal line carries to McGahee, but he still figures to see plenty of work. If he can stay healthy, he’s easily a top 15 back this season.

The Packers have the luxury of healing in the offseason, but for running back Ryan Grant that may not be enough. Last season 2nd year back James Starks stepped up and played well for the Pack in the post season and could very well figure into the team’s plans this season. From what I have read, heard, and seen I would not be surprised to see Starks starting at some point this season and more likely sooner than later.

Along with these potential diamonds in the rough, a couple of kids I would watch heavily leading into week one, Bernard Scott of the Bengals and rookie Stevan Ridley of the Patriots. Both teams don’t have a clear cut dominant runner that they will lean on heavily and both these kids could just be hungry enough to work their way into the spotlight.

If Benson can’t keep his name out of the paper in non-related football news, Scott’s time could come much sooner than expected. The team sounds like they are very high on Ridley; the power back just needs to keep “doing the right things” and his time will come.

There aren’t too many names that I am necessarily down on this year, but as good as Saints running back Mark Ingram is, I am not buying all that cool-aid that is being sold. Ingram is going to be productive this season, but I am just not so sure that Pierre Thomas is done. As long as Thomas is healthy, he’ll remain an integral part of the offense as well. That’s just my thoughts on that subject and these are my takes in the backfield.

2011 Fantasy Tidbits

And just for the record, these tid-bits might be more like bite-size or mini-bits, but just the same I am going to share a few notes for thought and observations from the NFL Preseason that is quickly coming to a close. With the 2011 fantasy football season officially on countdown mode and opening kickoff now less than a week away, it’s time to take a quick look at what we have learned thus far or realize we are still clueless.

Some Quick pointers!

In Detroit, what I am hearing (and seeing) third year quarterback Matthew Stafford is quickly making a believer of many with his stellar play through the first three weeks of preseason; and why shouldn’t he the kid has barely completed a full-season of action in his first three years. While that might be true, it’s hard to deny the stars seem to be quickly aligning for the young Mr. Stafford, 24 of 31 passing, five touchdowns, and a passer rating of 154.0; oh yeah, he also had that Megatron kid to throw to.

It may only be a mirage we are seeing in Washington, but I have to say Tim Hightower (170 yards rushing, 6.8 average) is looking like a new running back behind a line that can actually run block (ranked number one in the preseason). The jury may still be out on Hightower, but his stock has quickly risen in the fantasy ranks, taken 20th in a recent custom fantasy draft (was ranked 48th in USA Today). The jury may still be out and it is a little premature to make any bold predictions, but I think we’ve seen enough to feel confident that Hightower ‘Could’ be more than fantasy relevant this season.

In Houston it seems that tight end Owen Daniels may not be getting as much fantasy love as he may deserve. It was only back in 2008 that he caught 70 balls, third most for tightends and this preseason he has looked pretty good collecting seven passes for 64 yards and a score. Unlike players like Gates, Witten, and Finley, Daniels does not appears to be part of a crowded passing attack and could see plenty of opportunity to move his fantasy stock up higher on most draft boards and cheat sheets.

The NFL season is set to start very quickly and looking across the board some of the biggest questions fantasy owners will face as they prepare for their drafts this weekend; who is number one, where do you draft Peyton Manning (neck), when do you take Chris Johnson (hold-out), and is New England a good fit for Ochocinco? There’s no right or wrong answer here, just know it’s going to be a lot of fun learning the truths about these questions and plenty more fantasy related topics over the next 16-17 weeks. FSH: MY WEEKLY SURVIVAL

My Weekly Survivors

It was another turnaround effort for my fantasy team in week14 (91points). While I am locked in the top 10, I am still inching my way to the top. With a strong effort from my running back Tim Hightower (148 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns) who scored 26 points and my tight end Jason Witten (69 yards receiving, 2 touchdowns) who also donned the end-zone a couple of times chipping in with 18 points my fantasy team is not situated in 6th place overall.

The balance of my team did a fair job with both receivers Reggie Wayne and Mike Wallace adding some decent numbers. The other running back Knowshon Moreno was also a workhorse posting 17 points on 112 total yards and a score. My lone disappointment last week was my signal caller Jay Cutler (8 points). He may be a Chicago-boy, but last Sunday against the Patriots was no winter wonderland in the windy city for the native.

As we push deeper into this fantasy season the picks get a just a little more tricky, but with careful selection and some good matchups I am hopeful this week’s team will not disappoint.

Here are my picks for week 15….

QB-Jon Kitna, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are at home and although they fell short they are coming off an impressive performance a week ago against the Eagles. Quarterback Jon Kitna had a couple of throws he would like back, but all-in-all he played well. This week should be a little easier facing the Redskins 29th ranked pass defense that struggles to bring pressure. With time Kitna will be able to make some throws downfield and put up some points on the board.
(Projected: 20 fantasy points/ 275 yards passing, 10 rushing yards, two touchdowns)

RB- Brian Westbrook, San Francisco 49ers
The Niner’s finally remembered what a valuable weapon in the passing game Brian Westbrook was in Philly. Last week against the Seahawks, the Niner’s utilized the former Eagle out of the backfield throwing him the ball on several occasions. Westbrook finished the game with six receptions for 87 yards and a score, to go with another 23 yards rushing. Westbrook should be able to must a few more yards on the ground this week against the Charers, but will likely do just as must damage out of the backfield.
(Projected: 16 fantasy points/ 65 yards rushing, 5 catches, 45 yards receiving, one touchdown)

RB-Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown (644 yards rushing) has not been having a great season sharing duties with his counterpart Ricky Williams, but the two have to be licking their chops this week playing host the Bills (ranked 32nd against the run). Despite the committee role, Brown has been seeing his fair share of touches; averaging 19 per game in his last three games. Against the Bills he should see plenty of work and enjoy plenty of success.
(Projected: 17 fantasy points/ 70 yards rushing, 4 catches, 45 yards receiving, one touchdown)

WR-Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
Austin has not made a whole lot of noise over the past several weeks averaging just three catches for 31 yards over his last three games. With the Redskins 29th ranked pass defense coming to town, this may be just what the fantasy doctor ordered. Back in week one against the Redskins Austin posted 10 grads for 146 yards and a score.
(Projected: 16 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 100 yards, one touchdown)

WR-Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneer’s young receiver Mike Williams (52 receptions, 784 yards, 7 touchdowns) has been playing very well this season, although he is coming off his worst game of the season. We’ll just chalk that up to bad weather and difficult playing conditions. This Sunday the Bucs are home and there should be plenty of susnshine, so I am expecting this kid to bounce back with solid numbers against the league’s 13th ranked pass defense.
(Projected: 15 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 90 yards, one touchdown)

TE-Owen Daniels, Houston Texans
The Texan’s tight end made his return on Monday night and flashed a little of what fantasy owners became used to seeing a year ago. He’s not quite back to old form, but should be good enough to do some damage on Sunday against the Titan’s 26th ranked pass defense.
(Projected: 14 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 85 yards, one touchdown)

PK-Josh Brown, St. Louis Rams
The Rams offense should be able to move the ball on the ground with some ease against the Chiefs 15th ranked run defense, but with just seven rushing touchdowns all season they may have a rough go at punching it in. I expect to see them settling for a few more kicks.

Today’s injury notes

The Chief’s will be without their starting quarterback Matt Cassel today against the San Diego Chargers. Cassel suffered an appendectomy earlier in the week and did not make the flight with the team to the west coast.

The Raiders could be without their top cover corner Nnamdi Asomugha today when the team faces the Jacksonville Jaguars. Asomugha is listed as questionable as he is dealing with a lingering ankle injury.

The Bronco’s are set to meet the Arizona Cardinals later today, but they will be missing a couple of key players. Rookie wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has been ruled out with an ankly injury, while Bronco’s safety Brian Dawkins will also be sidelined today with a knee injury. Fullback Spencer Larson has also been ruled out of today’s contest with a hamstring injury.

The AP is reporting that the Eagles will be without cornerback Assante Samuel tonight when the Eagles meet the Dallas Cowboys. Samuel is nursing an knee injury and was not expected to make the trip with the team.

Today’s Matchup

The Bills are facing the Cleveland Brown’s today and their 20th ranked pass defense. Last week Fitzpatrick and company had a rough day throwing the pill against an aggressive Vikings defense. This week won’t be a whole lot easier, but look for the Bills to attack the Browns defense through the air with wide receivers Stevie Johnson and Lee Evans. The Brown’s have allowed 20 passing touchdowns this season and are allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete better than 60 percent of their passes.

The Arizona Cardinals offense has been awful over the past several weeks averaging just over 8 points in their last three games. Today the Cards will matchup with the Broncos 31st run defense and should be planning a lot of Tim Hightower on the ground. Last week against the Rams Hightower toted the rock 15 times for 81 yards. It’s a safe bet to expect similar and even better numbers for the Cards runner today.

The Packers offense is on a roll having scored at least 31 points in three of its’ last four games. Today quarterback Aaron Rodgers will face the Lions 16th ranked pass defense that has surrendered 21 passing touchdowns and allows over a 63 pass completion percentage. Wide receiver Greg Jennings (11 touchdowns) and Donald Driver (4 touchdowns) could be in line for a couple of big games.

With snow and wind in affect in the windy city (Chicago) today, an aerial shootout is highly unlikely for quarterbacks Jay Cutler and Tom Brady. The Bears have been running the ball and will be expected to stick with what works, so expect to see a lot of Matt Forte (748 yards rushing, 5 touchdowns) today against the Patriots.

Tonight’s matchup between the Cowboys and Eagles being played in the comforts of the new Cowboy’s stadium could end up being every bit of a shootout. The Eagles are scoring at a frantic pace, while under the new Garrett regime, the Cowboys offense is starting to click. With all the talk about Mike Vick and the passing game, today’s matchup could be a battle of the ground games between Tashard Choice and LeSean McCoy. Both versatile backs should see plenty of carries and both will get their fair share in the pass game as well.

My Weekly Survivors

Week 13 was not my best, but a definite turnaround for the disappointment that was week 12. I still can’t figure out the tight end spot; maybe that’s because I have been riding the Bill’s defense all season long and they have finally figured it out. Last week the Bills defense limited the Viking’s tight Visanthe Shiancoe to just 17 yards receiving (one fantasy point). What a dud. My Sam Bradford pick at quarterback did not pan out to well either; 187 yards passing, no touchdowns, and just 7 fantasy points.

Now my backfield and receivers however did show up in week 13 totaling 64 points. This group was led by my Arian Foster pick who started things off last Thursday with 22 points (83 rushing yards, 26 receiving yards, two total touchdowns). The Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart with the help of his 92 yards rushing and one touchdown effort chipped in 15 points. Both Raven’s receiver Anquan Boldin (17 points) and Bengal’s wide out Terrell Owens (10 points) were solid as well.

Looking at the overall standings I currently have a firm lock at a top 10 spot, but if I am going to make a run at the big boys at the top I still have a lot of work left trailing by over 100 ponts. This week presents even more challenges for me needless to say, but with nothing to lose and a title to chase I am rolling the dice!

Here are my picks for week 14….

QB-Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears
The Bears quarterback has been on a roll lately. In his past two starts he has completed nearly 75 peercent of his passes and thrown five touchdowns with zero picks. The Patriots look dominant Monday night especially on offense, but their secondary still looks like it can be had. Cutler is a gambler and no doubt will take his shots downfield against a secondary (ranked 31st) that has allowed 43 pass plays of 20 yards or more this season.
(Projected: 23 fantasy points/ 225 yards passing, 20 rushing yards, three touchdowns)

RB- Knowshon Moreno, Denver Broncos
The Bronco’s running back has been a real workhorse over the past three weeks averaging nearly 21 touches per game and 137 yards. His numbers include 14 receptions and a pair of touchdowns. The Broncos are coming off a poor offensive showing from a week ago and will to get healthy against a defense (ranked 28th overall) that allows over 28 points per game.
(Projected: 25 fantasy points/ 110 yards rushing, 3 catches, 20 yards receiving, two touchdown)

RB-Tim Hightower, Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals running back enjoyed one of his best efforts of the season a week ago with 81 yards rushing against the Rams. This week he draws the league’s 31st ranked run defense that has surrendered 16 rushing touchdowns in 2010. It sounds like it could be another good week for Hightower.
(Projected: 15 fantasy points/ 85 yards rushing, 1 catches, 10 yards receiving, one touchdown)

WR-Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
The Colts receiver had a huge game a week ago against the Cowboys. This Thursday there’s no doubt the defense will be focused on stopping him, but in this must game for Indy you can bet Manning will find a way to get him the ball.
(Projected: 13 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 70 yards, one touchdown)

WR-Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers big play receiver has cooled off a bit as of late, but since week nine he remains the team’s most targeted receiver with 36. Over that span Wallace has snagged 24 balls and scored four times. On Sunday he’ll lineup against the Bengal’s 15th ranked pass defense that struggles with pressure (just 14 sacks this season). If Big Ben has time to throw, expect to see him hook up with Wallace a couple of times downfield.
(Projected: 16 fantasy points/ 5 catches, 105 yards, one touchdown)

TE-Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
Since week 10 the Cowboys tight end has been the most targeted receiver on the team with 22. This Sunday he will square off with the leagues 17th ranked pass defense that has allowed 24 passing touchdowns this season. This is the first matchup this season between these two clubs and last season in two games Witten grabbed 13 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. With no Dez Bryant available, Witten looks to be a hot prospect in the red zone.

PK-Billy Cundiff, Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens meet the Texans on Monday night in Houston which takes any possibility of wind out of the equation. With the Texans allowing almost 27 points per game Cundiff should be pretty busy on National TV.

The Most Targeted in the League

When you are setting your weekly lineups and tossing names around, sometimes it pays to have a little information. After one week of play, many owners could be getting a little nervous about some of their stud receivers not living up to par. No need to send in the Calvary, if you’re looking for help we’ve got your Fixx right here.

Not to Worry….
For those owners concerned about the Falcons Roddy White and his meager 42-receiving yards, don’t be. White was targeted 10 times on Sunday and there will be more days like that, but with better results. Roddy has emerged as a big time receiver and nearly connected with Ryan a couple of times on a couple of deep balls.

In the Northwest, the Seahawks new go-to man T.J. Houshmandzadeh was relatively quiet finishing his day with a mere 48-receiving yards on six grabs. Here is another prime example of not to worry, Housh was thrown to eight times and figures to see even more in the coming weeks. With Hasselbeck looking sharp in the second half, there are only better days ahead for the Seahawk’s wideout.

Certainly fantasy owners did not expect to see Saints quarterback Drew Brees pass for well over 300-yards and only connect with wideout Marques Colston for only 30 of those yards. Colston finished Sunday’s contest with only two catches, but the good news was he was targeted four other times. Devery Henderson actually finished as the team’s top target with eight, but that’s expected in the Saints high-powered offense. Brees is going to spread the ball around from week to week, but Colston will always get his share.

Notables to Watch…
While we won’t need to worry about some of our studs, other receivers we should be watching are the Seahawks Nate Burleson. Last season Burleson missed all but one game, so he was likely overlooked in many leagues. Owners open your eyes; Nate saw 11 balls his way on Sunday and pulled in seven for 74-yards. He’s a strong number two receiver and can serve as a solid fantasy WR3 in deeper leagues and a great bye week fill.

In a quiet move during the offseason, the Rams acquired wide receiver Laurent Robinson. It was a move that didn’t amount to much at the time, but once camps opened and the preseason began the team began to collect its’ dividends. Robinson was quickly moved into the starting lineup of a bad Rams offense, but one that is going to play from behind a lot and throw the ball much. In week one Robinson caught five balls for 87-yards, but had 10 passes thrown his direction. This is something owners can expect to see a lot more of as the season progresses.
