FSH: MY WEEKLY SURVIVAL

December 15th, 2010, Wednesday
My Weekly Survivors

It was another turnaround effort for my fantasy team in week14 (91points). While I am locked in the top 10, I am still inching my way to the top. With a strong effort from my running back Tim Hightower (148 yards rushing, 2 touchdowns) who scored 26 points and my tight end Jason Witten (69 yards receiving, 2 touchdowns) who also donned the end-zone a couple of times chipping in with 18 points my fantasy team is not situated in 6th place overall.

The balance of my team did a fair job with both receivers Reggie Wayne and Mike Wallace adding some decent numbers. The other running back Knowshon Moreno was also a workhorse posting 17 points on 112 total yards and a score. My lone disappointment last week was my signal caller Jay Cutler (8 points). He may be a Chicago-boy, but last Sunday against the Patriots was no winter wonderland in the windy city for the native.

As we push deeper into this fantasy season the picks get a just a little more tricky, but with careful selection and some good matchups I am hopeful this week’s team will not disappoint.

Here are my picks for week 15….

QB-Jon Kitna, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are at home and although they fell short they are coming off an impressive performance a week ago against the Eagles. Quarterback Jon Kitna had a couple of throws he would like back, but all-in-all he played well. This week should be a little easier facing the Redskins 29th ranked pass defense that struggles to bring pressure. With time Kitna will be able to make some throws downfield and put up some points on the board.
(Projected: 20 fantasy points/ 275 yards passing, 10 rushing yards, two touchdowns)

RB- Brian Westbrook, San Francisco 49ers
The Niner’s finally remembered what a valuable weapon in the passing game Brian Westbrook was in Philly. Last week against the Seahawks, the Niner’s utilized the former Eagle out of the backfield throwing him the ball on several occasions. Westbrook finished the game with six receptions for 87 yards and a score, to go with another 23 yards rushing. Westbrook should be able to must a few more yards on the ground this week against the Charers, but will likely do just as must damage out of the backfield.
(Projected: 16 fantasy points/ 65 yards rushing, 5 catches, 45 yards receiving, one touchdown)

RB-Ronnie Brown, Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown (644 yards rushing) has not been having a great season sharing duties with his counterpart Ricky Williams, but the two have to be licking their chops this week playing host the Bills (ranked 32nd against the run). Despite the committee role, Brown has been seeing his fair share of touches; averaging 19 per game in his last three games. Against the Bills he should see plenty of work and enjoy plenty of success.
(Projected: 17 fantasy points/ 70 yards rushing, 4 catches, 45 yards receiving, one touchdown)

WR-Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
Austin has not made a whole lot of noise over the past several weeks averaging just three catches for 31 yards over his last three games. With the Redskins 29th ranked pass defense coming to town, this may be just what the fantasy doctor ordered. Back in week one against the Redskins Austin posted 10 grads for 146 yards and a score.
(Projected: 16 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 100 yards, one touchdown)

WR-Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneer’s young receiver Mike Williams (52 receptions, 784 yards, 7 touchdowns) has been playing very well this season, although he is coming off his worst game of the season. We’ll just chalk that up to bad weather and difficult playing conditions. This Sunday the Bucs are home and there should be plenty of susnshine, so I am expecting this kid to bounce back with solid numbers against the league’s 13th ranked pass defense.
(Projected: 15 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 90 yards, one touchdown)

TE-Owen Daniels, Houston Texans
The Texan’s tight end made his return on Monday night and flashed a little of what fantasy owners became used to seeing a year ago. He’s not quite back to old form, but should be good enough to do some damage on Sunday against the Titan’s 26th ranked pass defense.
(Projected: 14 fantasy points/ 6 catches, 85 yards, one touchdown)

PK-Josh Brown, St. Louis Rams
The Rams offense should be able to move the ball on the ground with some ease against the Chiefs 15th ranked run defense, but with just seven rushing touchdowns all season they may have a rough go at punching it in. I expect to see them settling for a few more kicks.
(Projected: 10 fantasy points/ three field goals, one extra points)

FSH: MONDAY MORNING HUDDLE

April 19th, 2010 9:57pm PST

[The Evening Edition]
Monday Morning Huddle

Movement, Movement, Movement

Again with the recent headlines (last week) circulating from the world of football there has been more changes that will have a big impact on the coming fantasy season. This past week the wide receiver position has been the pick of the litter and with that, there could be more to come.

Recent Moves...
The last couple of weeks there have been some big moves made in the NFL, some surprising and others not so much, but either way these moves are going to have a big impact on fantasy going forward.

In Pittsburgh, the Steelers needing some damage control unloaded their former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets. Holmes was dealt for only a 5th round pick, undoubtedly it was a business decision to move forward without the risky proposition (Holmes) who will face a four game suspension at the start of the 2010 season. A new home, a new quarterback, and a suspension will no doubt hurt Holmes fantasy value greatly at fantasy drafts, but owners mustn’t forget his 79 catches and 1,200 yards in 2009. Lining up with Edwards and Cotchery, Santonio could be a huge second half play this coming season.

In Denver the Broncos finally say good-bye to their two time Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall (three straight seasons with at least 100 receptions). While the move could be heavily criticized, it appeared to be the best for all concerned; Marshall wanted out and the Broncos wanted to move on. Denver dealt the outspoken receiver to the Dolphins for a pair of second round picks (one this season, one in 2011) and could be looking to make a run at one of the top WR draft prospects in this year's draft. With Marshall moving south to the sunshine state (Florida) his stock may take a slight hit, but quarterback Chad Henne could see a rise in his value. Henne comes off a season where he threw 12 touchdowns. Last season Marshall had 10 alone. It would be safe to expect to see Henne improve his numbers this coming season.

Players to watch...

With the draft now just days away, don't expect activity in the NFL to slow down. Just Monday the Broncos continued to stay busy trading tight end Tony Scheffler away to the Lions as part of a three team deal that included the Eagles. The Broncos received a 5th round pick (from the Eagles), while the Lions sent Ernie Sims to Philly in exchange for the acquisition of Scheffler.

This was just some early movement for draft week, but a couple of names to keep on your radar with the draft coming up quickly would include; Jets running Leon Washington (signed tender), Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell (rumored to be on trade block), Bear's tight end Greg Olsen (not happy in windy city), and surprise, surprise (according to ESPN's Adam Schefter) the Dolphin's running back Ronnie Brown. This of course is all speculation, but as the draft approaches, we could see conversations heat up and rumors fly. Stay tuned for the NFL draft 2010.

FSH: DAVID'S DAILY DIGEST

November 19th, 2009

David's Daily Digest
[My Take]

More Football news and happenings from aroudn the league; here's the latest I am hearing, reading, and following and my take on things and their fantasy impact this coming Sunday...

Player News and Notes from Across the Wire...

Brown Placed on the IR.....
With Brown on the injured reserve the Dolphins turned to running back Ricky Willams Thursday night and he delivered. As the featured back in the Wildcat and the running game Williams eclipsed the century mark and scored three times in the team's big week 11 road win. This could become a common reoccurrence.

Raiders Finally Bench Russell....
This was probably a move best made during training camp, but better late than never. Despite all his ability and potential Russell has been a disaster. In nine starts this season Russell has 14 turnovers with a passer rating of 47.7.

Bills want Shanahan....
This comes as little shock with the recent firing of Dick Jauron. There's no doubt Shanahan's influence could create a few fantays studs with players like Jackson, Owens, and Evans, but his demand for full control could be a huge stepping block.

No Westbrook for Now....
The good news is there appears a chance that Eagles running back Brian Westbrook can make a full recovery. The bad news for fantasy owners is it does not appear Westbrook will be returning anytime soon. In fact it's more likely that if he continues playing, he won't play again until next season (just speculation).

Broncos offense in bad shape...
When Orton went down on Sunday, so did the team's chances to win. After a fast start against the Redskins, the Broncos offense struggled badly and failed to score a single point in the second half. Backup quarterback Chris Simms was not sharp and played very poorly passing for only 13 yards in relief on Sunday. With Orton questionable the Bronco's options are not looking very promising.

Week 8 Fantasy Tidbits
What to look for;

RB Steven Jackson versus the Lions
The Rams powerful running back has averaged 115-yards from scrimmage each game this season. Despite playing on one of the league’s worst offenses Jackson is also averaging a healthy 4.4 yard per carry. Today he matches up with the Lions run defense that ranks 20th and allows 4.6 yards per run. (good play)

RB Knowshon Moreno versus the Ravens
The Bronco’s offense has had two weeks to prepare and rookie running back Knowshon Moreno could be in for a solid day. Moreno has rushed for nearly 400 yards this season and is averaging 18 carries per game in his last five. In the Ravens past two games the defense has been shredded for 309 yards on the ground (154-yds per game) allowing nearly five yards a carry. (good play)

WR Marques Colston versus the Falcons
The Saints wide receiver has been targeted the most by quarterback Drew Brees over the teams last two games. Colston has seen 21 balls thrown in his direction and on Monday night he’ll face the Falcon’s 26th ranked pass defense that has allowed 24 plays of 20 yards or more this season. (good play)

RB DeAngelo Williams versus the Cardinals
With shaky play at quarterback, this week’s matchup against the Cardinals does not look good for running back DeAngelo Williams. The Cardinal’s defense is ranked number one against the run allowing just 67 yards per game and three yards a carry. (bad play)

QB David Garrard versus the Titans
In the first matchup this season the Jaguar’s quarterback passed for 323 yards and tossed three touchdowns in a blowout win over the Titans. Garrard also scampered his way to 38 yards in the victory. The Titans pass defense is ranked 31st this season and has allowed 19 passing touchdowns. (good play)

QB Brett Favre versus the Packers
The Vikings field general will face a defense that he torched for three scores on a Monday night back in week 4. Favre completed 23 of 30 passes and threw for 271 yards in the win. The Packers pass defense is ranked 4th in the league allowing on 174 yards per game and are 4th in the NFL with 11 interceptions. (tough play)

RB Ronnie Brown versus the Jets
With Kris Jenkins missing in the middle on Sunday for the Jets run defense, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams should have a lot of success. In their week five matchup against the Jets, Brown was efffective scoring two rushing touchdowns while the Dolphins totaled over 150 yards on the ground. (good play)

WR Braylon Edwards versus Dolphins
The Jets new receiver was targeted a season high 11 times in the previous matchup. Edwards made a couple of very nice grabs and was able to score in the first tilt. Today matching up with the Dolphins 19th ranked pass defense that has been susceptible to the long ball, Edwards could be a sneakly play. (sneaky play)

FSH: FRIDAY FOOTBALL DIARY

Friday Football Diary

Dear Diary

Week 3 was filled with a few surprises and while the Lions getting their first win was unexpected at the expense of a struggling Redskins team, it only came as a little surprise. The Bengal’s win last week over Pittsburgh could be viewed as a much bigger shock, but it shouldn’t.

In watching the Bengal’s the first couple of weeks, against the Steelers in week 3 they proved they are the real deal. After a disappointing 2008 season, the Bengals are healthy this season and still loaded with plenty of talent.

The Jets are another surprise team this season and last Sunday was no different. A big win at home against the Titan’s, the AFC’s best record in 2008 was just another piece of evidence that head coach Rex Ryan has his team playing like a contender.

The Fantasy Safe Zone

While the 2009 season has already offered its share of surprises and unexpected misfortunes, fantasy owners can take relief knowing they still have plenty of safe options. After a tumultuous week one here are some players that managed to bounce back and get it back on track;

The Safe Weekly Plays:
QB-Jay Cutler has thrown five touchdowns in his last two starts after throwing four interceptions in week one.
QB-Matt Schaub has passed for 657 yards and thrown seven touchdowns in his last two games after a poor week one.
RB-Steven Jackson has rushed for two straight 100-yard games.
RB-Ronnie Brown has total more than 110 yards in each of his last two games.
RB-Knowshon Moreno has averaged 20 touches and more than 90 yards of offense in his last two starts.
WR-Steve Smith has scored the last two weeks for the G-men and is among the NFL leaders with 23 receptions.
WR-Anquan Boldin has caught 14 passes over the past two weeks after a slow start in week one.
TE-Brent Celek has emerged as a steady fantasy option this season and in each of his past two games he’s caught eight passes for 104 yards.

10 Things to Watch for in Week 4

Once again the fantasy fanatical was fed with a full plate of statistical glory and splendor. Kid sensation continued his winning ways in New York and the Golden boy from Mississippi proved once again that he’s still got plenty left. With Week 3 bringing once again so much promise and flash as did the previous weeks, there are still some intriguing developments to catch my eye as I look toward week 4;

  1. Can the leagues top rated offense (Saints) slow down the rookie sensation Mark Sanchez and the 3-0 Jets?
  2. Are the Denver Broncos and their newly revamped defense for real; how will they slow down the Cowboys top-rated rushing attack?
  3. Can Peyton Manning who is averaging 327 yards passing and his Colts continue their assault on opposing secondaries?
  4. Can the Raider’s cornerback Nnamdi Asomguha slow down Texan’s wide receiver Andre Johnson as he did a year ago?
  5. How will the Packers 23rd ranked run defense handle the NFL leading rusher Adrian Peterson?
  6. Will Raider’s running back Darren McFadden finally breakout in 2009 against the Texans 32nd ranked run defense.
  7. Will the Buffalo Bill’s offense finally get wide receiver Terrell Owens involved early against the Dolphins 26th ranked pass defense?
  8. Can Bear’s quarterback Jay Cutler make it three strong performances in a row with a win Sunday?
  9. How will back up running back Glenn Coffee perform playing for the injured Frank Gore against the Rams
  10. Who will have the better passing day on Monday night, the Vikings Brett Favre or the Packer’s Aaron Rodgers?

FSH: THE FANTASY SPORTS ZONE (QWIK FIXX)

September 25th, 2009 3:37pm PST

THE FANTASY FIXX

Target Practice: Week Three in the NFL

The weekly trick in fantasy football is having knowledge, but more importantly information. Everyone knows you have to start your studs every Sunday. The difference between winning and losing from week to week, is knowing where to find those hidden gems. If you are looking for much needed help heading into week 3, you’ve targeted the right place and we’ve got your fix..

Who’s worried….
It took just the second week of action for players like Marques Colston and Terrell Owens to get untracked. Both wideouts have yet to be heavily targeted this season, but they still produce when they touch the ball. Owens registered a nice 43-yard catch and run for a score, while Colston posted two trips to the endzone.

Looking at others like Steve Smith of Carolina (30 touches this season leads NFL WRs) and Andre Johnson, after their slow starts each also broke out in week two with a big games. Smith tallied eight catches for 131-yards, while Andre hauled in 10 passes for 149-yards and two scores. Being patient with these studs paid handsomely for fantasy owners in week two.

Another stud that got back on track in week two and undoubtedly served all of his fantasy owners well was Dolphin’s running back Ronnie Brown. After totaling just 53-yards in week one, Brown broke loose for 136-yards on the ground and two touchdowns leading the ‘wildcat’ attack.

Another fantasy thorough bred that is drawing a lot of attention from the fantasy community is Bill’s running back Fred Jackson. While many folks were thinking this kid could be put back on the shelf once Marshawn Lynch returns to the line-up from suspension, that’s not looking like the case these days.

In the first two weeks of the season, Jackson leads (tied with Cedric Benson) all running backs with 54 touches this season and has been highly productive. With 220-yards rushing, 11 receptions, and one receiving touchdown it would be hard to imagine Jackson losing the starting job even when Lynch is back.

Keep your Eye on these gems…
While running backs Matt Forte (43 touches) and Darren McFadden (33 touches) continue to labor in first gear, the high number of chances is a great indicator it’s just a matter of time sooner or later. With Seahawks (allowed 256-rushing yards in week 2) on the slate for the Bear’s running back sooner could come this weekend.

The Raiders running back could have a little more trouble this Sunday with the improved Bronco’s defense (allowing opponents 2.9-yards per carry) up next, but in week 4 he’ll see the Texans (allowing 215-yards/game).

If both receivers Steve “no the other one” Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. have yet to make it on your fantasy radar this season, put them on it now. After two weeks both receivers have emerged as more than relevant options and rank among the top 10 passing targets this season with 23 each. At that many chances, expect to hear their names called often each week.

Very quietly in a crowded Denver backfield it looks like the rookie (Knowshon Moreno) is slowly gaining some momentum as the team’s featured runner. After two games Moreno leads the team’s backfield with 27 touches, but more importantly he picked up 19 of those last week in what was his most productive day as a Bronco. Fantasy owners can and should expect to see more of the same in coming weeks, with his production only getting better from week to week.

Friday Football Diary

Dear Diary

This year’s offseason has been anything but dull and so far I can’t see it getting quiet any time soon. With so much drama following the “Brett Favre” story in Minnesota and now the recent developments in Denver, my goodness this is a whole season before the season.

It seems I can never get enough football, so while I continue to watch the Favre saga eventually take us to his return to football to play for the Vikes, I will also eye carefully the Marshall development in Denver. Sure the kid is a talent, but his request for more money is just bad timing and I would have to believe the best move for Denver is to trade the all-pro receiver.

Not quite the start for the McDaniel’s regime, trading away it’s two best players, but if they can get a player (like Boldin) in return for Brandon Marshall, in the long term this move could make sense. Looking around the league, it’s really hard to see where the Broncos could deal, but stranger things have happened.

With all that is taking place, we are now about 12 weeks until kickoff and counting. Continuing my look at all the NFL teams around the league recognizing those players that figure to be relevant this season in fantasy football, this week I will feature the AFC East in my weekly spot-light “Fantasy Preview”

Fantasy Preview
(Offense only)

The AFC East

Buffalo Bills: Last season the Bills were short on fantasy players as their passing game disappeared into mediocrity. This offseason the team made a big move with the acquisition of Terrell Owens to catapult their passing game to the forefront, or least Bills fans hope. The move should pay some considerable dividends and resurrect some fantasy life to Orchard Park.
Quarterback-Now that Losman is gone, this will be Trent Edwards’ team. Equipped with a big time pass catcher in Owens, Edwards figures to enjoy his best season yet. He won’t be a pro-bowler, but could be a starter for fantasy owners in 12-14 team leagues.
Running Backs-With an improved passing game and a reduced suspension, the Bill’s running back Marshawn Lynch should rebound this season as a strong RB2 fantasy pick, following a disappointing 2008 campaign. Running back Fred Jackson is going to figure in the mix some especially PPR leagues, but otherwise may only be worth drafting as insurance for Lynch owners.
Wide Receivers-Now that T.O. is a Bill, the receiver that to most likely benefit is wideout Lee Evans. The former number one receiver will likely take the back seat to Owens, but could be a monster sleeper in 2009. Evans kind of fell of the map in 2008 finishing with just 63 catches (but he did reach 1,000-yards). James Hardy and Roscoe Parrish lack the consistency to make any kind of a difference in fantasy, but Josh Reed could worth consideration as a bye week filler.
Tight ends-The Bills did not retain the services of Robert Royal in the offseason, therefore lack any kind of pass receiving threat at the position. With Owens added, the bills strength will be their receivers. Fantasy owners are advised to stay away from any Bill’s tight end.

New England Patriots: Last season the leagues best passing attack in 2007 suffered a major hit with the loss of Brady. His return will mark the return of one of the leagues most awesome aerial assaults. Expect big things from a passing game that set league marks just two seasons ago.
Quarterback-The Patriots and fantasy owners will be happy to see a healthy Tom Brady back under center, as will his two favorite targets (Welker and Moss; aka Salt n Pepper). In 2007 Brady had a record setting season throwing to these two, and while coming off ACL surgery he’s not expected to set records, but owners can expect the leagues three-time MVP to perform as a QB1 fantasy starter.
Running Backs-The Patriots had their struggles in the backfield last season with early injuries to Laurence Maroney and Lamont Jordan, but with the acquisition of Fred Taylor and the return of Ben N’ Jerry’s own Jarvis-Ellis along with the dependable Sammy Morris, the Pats will have a host of backs to share the load. At 33 years of age, Taylor does figure to carry much of a load and with Maroney seeing some time on special teams this offseason, this backfield is quickly shaping into your prototypical RBBC situation. Only in the deepest of leagues will there be any real value here with only the versatile Kevin Faulk (PPR leagues) and Fred Taylor offering any kind of value in 2009.
Wide Receivers-In 2007 with Brady tossing the rock, the Patriots carried two of the leagues very best wideouts in the NFL and fantasy. With Brady back Randy Moss will once again be elevated in many fantasy leagues as one of the leagues top five pass catchers with Welker being strongly considered a top 10 (especially in PPR leagues). Beyond the two starters, the Patriots don’t offer much more for fantasy, although Joey Galloway’s arrival may resurrect a couple of highlight reels, but hardly much more. The former Eagle receiver Greg Lewis, only in his seventh year, brings his afterburners to help spread the field. He could be good for the occasional big game here and there and offers more upside than the aging Galloway as an insurance WR4 for fantasy rosters.
Tight ends-Since McDaniels took over in New England, the tight end had become a forgotten position only averaging 38 receptions each of the last two seasons. Back in 2006 Ben Watson recorded 49 catches, with new play-calling the Pats could once again utilize the talents of Watson. The team seems to be loaded with options, but Watson is likely the safest bet to be productive in 2009.

Miami Dolphins: The 2009 version of the Dolphins are not going to catch anyone by surprise this season. After an impressive 2008 campaign that saw the team unveil its’ diverse play-calling with the “Wildcat” formation, many teams and in particular those within the division should be better prepared.
Quarterback-One of the team’s biggest keys in 2008 was the leadership play of quarterback Chad Pennington. The Dolphins starter is hardly worth a mention as a starter in fantasy, but his consistent and rock solid play will make him a solid QB2 backup in most leagues.
Running Backs-Last season was a bit of a guess as to which back would be the primary go to throughout the season, but as the year wore on it became clear that Ronnie Brown (916 rushing yards, 10 touchdowns) is the team’s number one. Back in 2007 Ronnie Brown was on his way to a monster season before tearing his ACL. Now nearly two years removed from the injury and with an aging Ricky Williams sharing time, 2009 could be a big season for Brown. He’s likely to fall to a mid-level pick, but he’s a solid grab as a RB1 in most leagues.
Wide Receivers-With Pennington under center lacking the big arm, this becomes a weak area for the Dolphin’s offense as well as for fantasy owners. Last season wide receiver Tedd Ginn Jr was expected to rise above the rest, but fell miserably short for fantasy owners. Greg Camarillo is a nice Welker-type, but the fish hardly throw the ball enough for him to have any substantial value. Likely Davone Bess and Ginn Jr will emerge as one and two for the Phins, but neither will be a legitimate starter for fantasy in 2009, simply because Miami does not throw the ball.
Tight ends-Last season Anthony Fasano emerged as a decent fantasy play early in the season, but his middle of year was filled with much inconsistency and disappointment. With four touchdowns in his last four games, Fasono is likely to be the favorite for fantasy over David Martin, but he’s going to be a low end option in 2009 as is any Dolphin tight end.

New York Jets: The Jets pulled out all the stops last year when they brought in former Packer quarterback Brett Favre and for much of last season the move seemed to have pay dividends. That was until the final five weeks, when the team and offense hit a wall. Eight times in the team’s first 11 games the offense posted at least 26 points. In their last five they top 18 just once.
Quarterback-2009 is going to look like a whole new picture for the Jets. With Favre gone, the team made some aggressive moves during this past offseason’s NFL draft by moving up the board to select Mark Sanchez. The former Trojan only enjoyed one full season of success as the starter at SC and he’ll be a big question mark looking toward the 2009 season. Sanchez posses the tools and some of the intangibles to play at the next level and while it is likely he’ll start for New York this fall, he’s a very risky play in any fantasy league. He’ll have more value in keeper leagues as stock for the future.
Running Backs-With a rookie quarterback and new head coach Rex Ryan who loves smash mouth football, the running game is going to be essential to the team’s 2009 success. With an unhappy Thomas Jones, the team could lean on the younger legs of Leon Washington and newly signed rookie Shonn Greene. With Thomas looking more like the odd-man out right now, it would seem Greene has the inside track to start this fall, but don’t expect that to hinder Washington’s production. Until we hit training camp, this backfield would be better treated as another RBBC for fantasy owners interested.
Wide Receivers-If the Jets rookie quarterback can sustain any level of success this season, with the departure of Laveranues Coles to Cincinnati Jerricho Cotchery could enjoy a significant level of success this season. Brad Smith, David Clowney, and Chansi Stuckey will battle for the 2nd and 3rd receiver, but with Sanchez under center not much will be expected from any of these receivers. Cotchery will offer the best value, but more like a low end WR3 in most fantasy leagues.
Tight ends-With the departure of Chris Baker departed to New England, this paves the way for 2nd year tight end Dustin Keller. Although Keller enjoyed first year success with Brett Favre who is no longer in New York, the Jets tight end figures to be a focal point in 2009 under Ryan’s more conservative offensive approach. With a young quarterback the tight end is most likely to become his best friend. Keller could very easily be a nice sleeper play this season for owners.

[My Take]

More OTA’s and more football highlight Monday’s activities around the league. Here’s the latest I am hearing and reading with my take on things around the league…

My Take...

RB RONNIE BROWN LOOKING GOOD IN CAMP
My Fantasy Read:
The word around the Dolphin’s minicamp is that Ronnie Brown is looking very good on the field. Just two years removed from major knee surgery, Brown could be looking to bounce back in 2009. Brown had a decent 2008 campaign, but with an aging Ricky Williams not looking very sharp during the offseason, the stage could be set for a monster season this year. Fantasy owners should be looking to draft Brown near the top this summer.

WR GREG JENNINGS REPORTEDLY CLOSE TO SIGNING
My Fantasy Read:
The Packer’s leading receiver is reportedly close to resigning with the team according to Jennings. This would be very good news for the Packers, as Jennings emerged as the team’s top pass-receiving threat a year ago with nearly 1,300-yards and nine touchdowns. A happy Jennings heading into training camp can only mean good things for fantasy owners as well. Jennings will likely be a possible top-10 grab or close to it in fantasy drafts this summer.

WR KEVIN CURTIS SAYS HE’S ONCE AGAIN HEALTHY
My Fantasy Read:
In 2007, Curtis was a healthy Eagle and put up big numbers with McNabb chucking the pill. Last season a sports hernia surgery slowed down Curtis’ 2008 campaign. Now healthy and with some additional help on the “O” side of the ball Curtis could be looking to return to his 70-catch, 1,000-yard form. Curtis will be a solid middle round WR2 selection this coming summer.

RB AHMAD BRADSHAW CONSIDERED PRIMARY BACKUP
My Fantasy Read:
The read on Bradshaw is he’ll be Jacob’s primary backup and should see plenty of touches to be fantasy worthy. He’s not going to be the big dog on any fantasy team this season, but should make a solid RB3 selection and great handcuff for Jacobs. Last season Bradshaw finished with just 67 carries, but this season he should absorb the majority of the 182 carries Derrick Ward has a year ago.

WR ISSAC BRUCE NOT EXPECTED TO START IN 2009
My Fantasy Read:
One of the NFL’s leading receiver’s is likely to make the Niner’s roster this season, but according to the SF Chronicle he likely won’t start. The Niner’s drafted Michael Crabtree this offseaosn and he is expected to step in at split-end with Josh Morgan moving to flanker. The 16 year veteran wideout (Bruce) will move to the slot and should still be a serviceable WR3 in deeper leagues. Last season Bruce led the team with 61 catches and he could very well be one of its’ top receivers again.
