Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski exit last Sunday’s game with a groin injury and he’s questionable to play. We’ve seen this before, so it’s a risky play for owners. But if Gronk is available, he always has the potential for a boom Sunday, but then again you better beware.

I’ve dropped Redskins tight end Jordan Reed a couple of spots; he’s dinged up and no question it’s affected his effectiveness on the field. Be cautious if you have him going this weekend.

At No.10, I’ve given Raiders tight Jared Cook a boost this week. Cook has a Prime Time quarterback in Derek Carr, and his 11 targets indicate a steady weekly diet in the passing game. This week Cook meets a Redskins defense that has allowed the 8th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends, including the 3rd most receptions and the most receiving yards through two weeks.

The running theme seems to be injured tight end, with the Seahawks Jimmy Graham coming in at No. 11. Other options like the Chargers Hunter Henry, Giants Evan Engram, and Colts Jack Doyle would be the most logical inserts for some of the depleted spots.

Here is my Week 2 rundown of those players that may have saved your week 2 matchup in your redraft league and scored you some mean green in the weekly DFS;

Quarterbacks Trevor Siemian (4 touchdowns passing) and Deshaun Watson (67 rushing yards and a touchdown) were both big Week 2 surprises for fantasy owners. Neither were likely started in redraft of dynasty leagues, but will now be on folks radars going forward.

QB-Tom Brady (NE) 447 yds pass, 3 Tds, 0 Ints.

QB-Derek Carr (OAK) 230 yds pass, 3 Tds, 0 Ints.

QB-Trevor Siemian (DEN) 231 yds pass, 4 Tds, 1 Int

QB-Deshaun Watson (HOU) 125 yds pass, 67 yds ru, 1 Td

Running backs Javorius (Buck) Allen (66 rushing yards) and Chris Thompson (77 rushing yards) are typically known for their pass catching prowess, but Sunday they gave fantasy owners a little more taste of their ground skills. On the flip side, Patriots running back James White displayed his primary value in New England with 8 receptions.

Wide receivers JJ Nelson (1 touchdown) and Jermaine Kearse (2 touchdowns) showed fantasy owners their noses for the end zone on Sunday, while Allen Hurns (82 receiving yards, 1 touchdown) gave notice that he’s still fantasy relevant. Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry's PPR dominance was on full display Sunday with a total of 13 receptions.

Witten displayed his route running mastery and finished the afternoon with 10 grabs and a Sports Center highlight 28 yard score. Playing in his 14th season Ravens tight end Benjamin Watson took a plunge into the fountain of youth turning in a line of 8/91/0; great numbers in PPR formats.

THE FANTASY FALLOUT

Shiny Fantasy Stars losing their Fizzle

Every year and every week, we see fantasy players moving up and down the boards. Some weeks there are those options that are flying off the grill like hot cakes, then are those that are falling faster than a shooting star.

When you are looking later in your fantasy draft for players that might add depth or help later on down the line, you have to know who to target and who to avoid. With the preseason complete and kick-off just days away, here’s my first installment of those that are sliding and should be avoided early;

QB-Kellen Clemens (NYJ); The Jets quarterback started eight games for the team in 2007, but after just throwing five passes in all of 2008 buried behind Brett Favre he will likely find comfort on the bench again in 2009. Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez will start for the Jets this season and he will likely have a lot of room for error, enough to bury Clemens in fantasy’s “No-man’s land.” Clemens holds very little fantasy value to start 2009, even as a handcuff for Sanchez. He’s best avoided in drafts, but could be a flier as a bye-week insert much later if the rookie struggles mightily.

RB-TJ Duckett (former Seahawk); The former touchdown vulture in the Northwest is now without a team. At his age of 28 it would seem Ducket would have plenty left in the tank, but until he finds a perfect suitor he’ll offer no value in fantasy. He’s best left undrafted in fantasy, but could be a worthy waiver wire consideration later in the season, if he lands somewhere prior.

WR-Michael Crabtree (SF); The Niner’s talented rookie receiver remains unsigned and a holdout, until he finds his way back into to camp he will also linger in fantasy’s “No man’s land.” It is expected that a deal will eventually get done, but until Crabtree is back on the field practicing and playing, he only has value as a very late round flier. And one that wont reap any benefits for weeks to come.

TE-Benjamin Watson (NE); The Patriot’s tight end had 49 catches for over 600-yards in 2006. Since that time his fantasy production has continually dropped. Last season the Pat’s number one tight end caught just 22 passes with only two scores and with the arrival of Chris Baker this offseason 2009 does not look to get better. Watson is slowly falling off the fantasy radar and with Baker the new number one in town, don’t expect any sudden revivals. Watson will be consider a reach and is not a roster-worthy fantasy option at this time.
