Draft Day is Here Again

Fantasy football excitement is in the air, as mock drafts churn out like basketball shoes at a Nike factory. Fantasy owners are hitting the magazine stands to pick up their favorite Mag with the latest rankings and player reviews.

As what has become the ritual for many of others who play fantasy, I too have picked up my favorite fantasy magazine or two. With a little over a week left before my final four league drafts, I will be busy over the next several days taking notes, highlighting the players I will be coveting, and updating my current password for my favorite sites for fantasy info and knowledge.

There have been a lot of changes this off season, some key player switches, and some interesting developments in the pre-draft fantasy football landscape. As I prepare for my upcoming drafts, I’ll be looking at the Josh Jacobs situation (his return to the Raiders), the effect of Aaron Rodgers on the Jets and their passing game, the arrival of DeAndre Hopkins in Tennessee, and the impact & influence of the Broncos new head coach Sean Payton. These are only a few considerations that will have to be looked at.

While the Fantasy football sites and magazines are a great source of information to cover those topics, your local supermarket is going to be an essential necessity for Draft Day, if you are to have a successful draft.

Some of the keys that will be needed besides your magazines and website addresses should include the following supplies, beer, ice, chips, dips, water, sides, and of course more beer.

I would suggest stocking heavily on cold beverages, should your draft go sideways, they could come in handy. 

Remember Draft Day is supposed to be a fun-filled day and one that you enjoy. Stay calm, trust your notes, and for goodness sakes, enjoy an occasional cold one during the process.

Lets Talk (Fantasy) Draft Day

Dear Diary

This weekend we just had our annual fantasy league draft. It got me thinking about what makes a good draft day.

First of all a good draft requires a lot of highly skilled planning. You have to make sure you set the best date possible aside so you are in full attendance; no one wants a lagger or any delays holding up what is likely to be a marathon of some of the smartest minds the world has even seen hard at work.

World peace, splitting atoms, and creating masterful paintings take a back seat to the talent and knowledge required to accurately and skillfully execute a great draft. Only those that have dared to challenge this huge undertaking can really understand the sacrifice that is necessary.

The first step requires that you find the perfect host; someone who is willing to expend the necessary energy to feed 8-12 hungry mouths that undoubtedly will get irritably hungry at some point during this quest for fantasy football immortality. Your host will also need a place large enough to hold a herd of loud bison and in this case, it’s a close comparison.

No Draft is complete, unless it is adequately stocked.

Maybe not the smartest minds, but this is one night they all think they know everything about football.

Once the stage is set, a mutually beneficial time for everyone to meet is agreed to. Always a word to the wise; start your draft early especially for those leagues with extended rounds, unlike fine wine drunk men who get tired and irritable do not get better with time. The later it gets, the longer this whole fiasco will last. And let me tell you, that’s never a good combination for the wives.

For those that don’t quite follow this game, this is not the highlight of the fantasy season (but its close). This is just a great start:
