Week One
“Sunday’s Heroes”
Week One in the NFL…
The NFL is one full week in the books and after 16 games played there is much to discuss; from the Brady-Brees duet, to keeping up with the Joneses, all the way to Wayne’s World the first week of action was nothing less than spectacular.
Tom Brady is his name and playing big is his game. The Patriots starting quarterback returned to action Monday night after having missed the entire 2008 season with a knee injury. His return was well anticipated and more than worth the wait as Brady looked true to form. His start before the raucous crowd in Foxboro was a bit shaky, but by the second half Brady was playing in mid-season form completing 39 of 53 passes for 378-yards and two touchdowns to lead the Pat’s comeback.
Certainly not to be outdone, Mr. “I can do whatever you do better” Drew Brees turned in more than a memorable performance for fantasy owners just one day earlier. Against an overmatched Lion’s defense Brees torched the secondary for 358-passing yards on 26 of 34 passing and threw not five, but six touchdowns. Smile fantasy owners, Christmas came early, although it could come again with this offense.
And just when you thought these boys were through, fantasy owners are just scrambling to keep up with the Joneses. In Seattle little brother Julius found the Northwest to his liking scampering for 117-yards on the ground and a score on Sunday. While big brother Thomas still hangs his hat in the big apple, at the ripe age of 31 he doesn’t appear quite ready to call it quits rushing for over 100-yards and two touchdowns in week one.
There was no sign of Garth Algar in Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, but it sure felt like Wayne’s world nonetheless wide receiver Reggie Wayne going crazy. The Colt’s wideout was merely unstoppable catching a game high 10 passes for 162-receiving yards, including a 35-yard game winning grab.
These were just a few of Week one’s Gridiron Gladiators. Check out the rest of Sunday’s Heroes from the first complete week of action;
