FSH: THE WEEKEND WRAP UP (WEEK 16)

December 22nd, 2008 9:47pm PST

Week 16...
NFL Injury News

  • The Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson left Sunday's game early with a bruised knee, but the Detroit Free Press is reporting he will be fine to play next week.
  • The Washington Post is reporting running back Clinton Portis suffered a bruised hand in Sunday' win over the Eagles. No further updates are available.
  • The Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey left Sunday's game with an ankle injury. No further updates are available.
  • The Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a bag of ice wrapped around his ankle following the teams loss to Tennessee. No updates on the severity of the injury.
  • The Steelers linebacker James Harrison suffered an injury to his hip in the first quarter of Sunday's matchup with the Titans. Harrison returned to the game, but his availability for Week 17 is questionable.
  • The Broncos running back Selvin Young suffered a neck injury on Sunday in the teams loss to the Bills. Young has been placed on the injured reserve ending his season.
  • The Browns running back Jason Wright suffered an injured ankle in Sunday's loss to the Bengals. No further updates available.
  • The Rams running back Steven Jackson apparently suffered a strained hamstring in the 4th quarter of last Sunday's game. The word is he should be okay to play next week.
  • The Broncos running back P.J. Pope suffered a torn hamstring on Sunday and has been placed on the injured reserve ending his season.

Sunday's Game Notes:

  • The stage has been set and a showdown awaits. With the Broncos meltdown on Sunday at Invesco to the Bills and the Chargers big road win at Tampa Bay, the two teams will now meet to decide fate. What some may call poetic justice, the Broncos and Chargers should be calling "for all the marbles." The Denver Broncos will travel to San Diego this Sunday to meet their divisional rivals in what will the decide the AFC West Champion.
  • The New York Jets stumbled on Sunday against the Seahawks in what could only be described as a New England blizzard. With the loss the Jets will now travel back home and await the arrival of the Miami Dolphins. While this game will not decide the Jets destiny alone, if the Jets can win, they would need help with a Patriots (against the Bills) and Ravens (against the Jags) loss this Sunday.
  • The Saints don't have a lot left to play for other than pride, but it does seem clear that the team and head coach Sean Payton are jumping on board with quarterback Drew Brees run into the history books. The Saints quarterback passed for 351-yards with two touchdowns to bring his season passing total to 4,683-yards. He'll need a big game (402-yards) this Sunday to reach magic.

Week 16...
SUNDAY'S HEROES

With some fantasy leagues wrapping up their season in Week 16, many diehards continue the quest for fantasy supremacy. As we begin to wind down the 2008 Fantasy Football season, we still see many of this seasons fantasy studs, names like turning in big days. Taking a look at Sunday's big performances here are your Week 16 gridiron greats!

Here are this week's fantasy Studs!

The Fantasy Notebook (notable mentions) for Week 16....

What we think we know:

  • The Ravens running game will be one for all to reckon with if Baltimore can get one more win this Sunday at home against the Jaguars. Last Sunday, not only did the Ravens prove they are a legitimate contender to consider, but how they beat the Cowboys in Texas should be a matchup concern. With the running of Willis McGahee and LeRon Mclain, both totaling over 240-yards the Ravens may have just unveiled their version of 'Smash N Dash.'
  • The Giants duo of Earth and Wind proved that the forces of nature were just too much for the Panthers to smash, dash or catch. Derrick Ward and Brandon Jacobs combined for over 300-yards and three touchdowns. The win gave the G-men the top seed in the NFC and proved once again the road to the Superbowl will have to travel through New York to the ends of the Earth, Wind, and Fire.
  • The Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler set a single season high franchise record for the most passing yards in a season with 4,210. The old record was held by his predecessor Jake "the snake" Plummer. Cutler also has 24 touchdowns this season, but has also thrown 16-interceptions, including a costly pick in the late going Sunday against the Bills.

Fantasy Spotlight:

***Fasano catches two on Sunday...
The Dolphins tight end came up with two touchdown receptions in the teams Week 16 victory.

***Gates big in Chargers win...
The Chargers tight end did not see many passes on Sunday, but he made the most of those he did catching two touchdowns in the teams Week 16 win.

***Jacobs scores three times Sunday night...
The Giants big bruising back logged the rock 24 times for 87-yards and scored three big rushing touchdowns in the teams Sunday night victory.

***Jordan finds the end-zone twice...
The Patriots running back LaMont Jordan carried the ball 20 times for 78-yards on the ground and scored twice in the teams rout of Arizona on Sunday.
