[quick hits]
For those diehards still engaged in a fantasy leagues that run through Week 17 and for those that just love the game, here's more football updates to digest. These are the Newsmakers, Game-breakers and Playmakers you'll need to know the "what's happening" for Sundays' slew of matchups.
Barber is a big question mark...
.....although this is a must win, a less than healthy Barber does not look like a better option than running back Tashard Choice. This may be the time of miracles, but owners should count on the rookie being the choice of play in the Cowboys finale.
Boldin could be back this Sunday...
.....the Cardinals receiver could return to action Sunday. Owners should caution; in what is likely a meaningless game for the Cards, if Boldin does play he could be limited and exit this contest early. If you are still in contention looking to win, this may not be the best option on Sunday.
Witten expected to play Sunday...
...everyone knows the Cowboys tight end to be one of the toughest players on the field. It appears last Saturday that Witten reaggravated the ankle injury he suffered earlier in the season, but it would take more than a sore wheel to keep him out this Sunday. Witten will likely play, but if he is slowed by the hurt ankle, he could be a risky play.
Curtis could miss Sunday...
...the Eagles receiver has had a disappointing run this season missing 7 games due to injuries and even if available in the teams finale, he's not been consistent enough this year for owners to chance.
Garcia should be ready for Week 17...
...according to Gruden, Garcia was fine following their Week 16 loss to San Diego. It sounds like Garcia should be ready for Sunday, but there are better options available in a must win game for fantasy owners.
Harrison expected to sit this Sunday...
...this is likely to be the case with many of the Colts starters, especially those a little banged up. Fantasy owners facing a championship makeup are best off not having to rely on any Colts starters this week.
Jackson to remain starter for finale...
...the Vikings will stick with Tarvaris Jackson as their starter this Sunday. Jackson has played outstanding the last three weeks and is definitely worthy of consideration to start for fantasy owners this week.
Morris expected to start again Sunday...
...with a solid effort in the snow last week Morris is without question the running back of choice for head coach Mike Holmgren. Owners can expect to see Morris follow up last Sunday’s 29-carry effort with more work this week.
Scheffler could be active Sunday...
...the Bronco’s tight end has been a hit and miss the last couple of weeks, but with such an important matchup this Sunday, the offense will need a bit hit. The Chargers have had their problems with tight ends this season, so owners should expect to see Scheffler very active in the Bronco offense Sunday night.
Gore could be back for season finale...
...the Niners running back has returned to practice this week and could be active on Sunday. Whether Gore plays or not, he’s part of the team’s future, so owners shouldn’t expect to see the team push him too hard. Gore just needs 22-yards for 1,000 on the season, so an early exit is quite possible.
IDP NOTES...
Freeney likely to be limited...
.....the Colts will be looking to get healthy and heal fast for their Wild-card matchup in Week 18. Freeney could see some action, but it is not likely that Dungy would keep him in too long. IDP owners counting on big numbers from the Colts star should probably look elsewhere.
Woodley has been quiet lately...
....one of the Steelers big pass rushing linebackers LaMarr Woodley has 11.5 sacks on the season, but has failed to record a single one in his last five games. With James Harrison ailing and possibly sitting Sunday, owners will have to wonder how long (head coach) Tomlin will stay with his starters in a game that is meaningless.
Cromartie ready for Sunday Showdown...
...the Chargers cornerback has not been the same player he was a year ago slowed by injuries. After missing Week 15 he returned to action last Sunday in a game the team had to have and finished with 4 tackles. He’ll have his hands full this week with the Bronco’s Brandon Marshall, but should still be a decent IDP play.
Wilson staying active in Raiders secondary....
...while the team has had little to chatter about this season, Gibril Wilson has actually been a strong play for IDP owners the past couple of weeks. In his last two starts Wilson has 20 total tackles with an interception.
