EARTH-SHAKERS! PLAY-MAKERS! GAME-BREAKERS!
Witten fractures ribs in Week 8...
....an MRI on Monday revealed the Cowboys tight end suffered a fractured rib. While Witten seems determined to play in week 9, with the team's bye set for week 10, it would come as no surprise to see the team elect to sit Witten and allow the rib to heal. Rookie tight end Martellus Bennett, who's been more active recently in the passing game, could be elevated to the starting role and be a solid sleeper pick for Week 9.
Jackson expected back in Week 9...
....the Rams running back is expected to practice on Wednesday this week and should be back on the field this Sunday to face the Cardinals. Only a setback during practice this week would likely keep the superstar runner out. If you have RB Antonio Pittman, you can return him to the bench because it's "Action-Jackson" time again.
Niner's name Hill new starter...
....after turning in an impressive half of play, 15 of 23 passes for 173 yards, the team has elected to stay with quarterback Shaun Hill as the starter coming out of the Week 9 bye. JT O'Sullivan had struggles all season with turnovers (17 on the year) and head coach Mike Sinlgetary made it clear in his post game press conference, "this team is not a charity." Hill will make his first start in Week 10 against Arizona on Monday night. Owners would be wise to see how Hill does on the big stage before inserting him into any line up.
Branch expected to miss...
....according to the Seattle Times, the Seahawks receiver Deion Branch is still suffering from a heel injury he suffered back in Week 5. Fantasy owners with limited roster space may need to move Branch to find more appealing active options. If you have the room and have gone this far, consider hanging onto Branch just a little longer. With Wallace starting to play better, once healthy Branch could become fantasy relevant.
Chargers fire Defensive Coordinator Ted Cottrell...
....the Charger's defense has not looked anything like the squad that won the AFC West a year ago. On Sunday against the Saints, the leagues 28th ranked defense did not record a single sack or turnover while allowing over 400 yards of offense. The move could be to shake things up, but for now until drastic personnel changes are made expect to see opposing offenses continue to have success with the pass against the leagues worst pass defense.
Hasselbeck expected to miss another week...
....the Seahawks quarterback was in Los Angeles to see a specialist to clear him to play. The clearance did not come and Hassleback will have to continue to rehab before he can get back on the field. It's a back issue that is preventing one of Seattle's team leaders from rejoining the team on the field. Quarterback Seneca Wallace will continue to start, but is not worth a play (even as a flex) this week against the Eagles.
Taylor ruled out in Week 9....
....the Redskins Jason Taylor is still dealing with a calf issue. It's starting to look like this could be a lingering issue that could keep Taylor out much longer. IDP owners should probably make other plans and in leagues with limited roster space, it could be time to drop Taylor.
Charles suffers high ankle sprain...
....the Chiefs are already without LJ, with Charles now likely to miss Week 9, Kolby Smith moves to the forefront of the team's running attack. Smith has not been effective as the starter with LJ out, and while he could likely be the featured back by default due to injuries, he's not worth consideration as a pick-up this week with the Buccaneer's defense next on the slate.
Culpepper shuns the Chiefs...
....originally the Chiefs were anticipating Culpepper's arrival on Tuesday. New reports surfaced that after he spurned the Chiefs and declined the scheduled visit, he ended up in Detroit Tuesday morning to visit with the Lions. It is now being reported Culpepper is in contract negotiations with the team. It was also noted, Culpepper considered the Lions a better opportunity. It very well could be. With Gray signed in KC, Culpepper was likely looking at a back-up position. This situation in Detroit undoubtedly involves an opportunity to win a starting gig. An interesting situation worth monitoring, although no move is suggested here.
Palmer will sit in Week 9....
....the Bengal's quarterback keeps insisting he's not done for the season, but the reality of this situation could be, while the team waits for the arm to heal and strengthen, the season could slip past. It is more than likely Palmer has already taken his last snap for the 2008 season, but it is not definite that he will need elbow surgery or not. Fantasy owners should move on without Palmer, just as the Bengals will try with Fitzpatrick who remains a non-factor in fantasy.
Manning throws two touchdowns in MNF loss...
.......in the team's Monday night loss to the Titans, quarterback Peyton Manning did manage 26 of 41 passes for 223 yard with two touchdowns. Manning was not his spectacular self with many throws fluttering, off-target, and he did throw two picks. However, there were quite a few passes that just missed and at times he did look like the Manning of old adding a rushing touchdown. Manning mananged 22 fantasy points last night, so fantasy owners can take solace in knowing that they can expect to see more of this going forward.
Clark catches two TDs Monday night...
....the Colts tight end has been very productive his last two starts totaling 15 catches for 175 yards. His two scores Monday night, were his first two of the season and Clark now looks like he' back to being his old TE-1 self and an every week start for fantasy owners.
