Week 13...
NFL Weekly Storylines

AFC

Favre and Jets flying high in AFC race.
Flying high behind Favre's 20-touchdowns this season or could the Jets be running hard on the legs of Thomas Jones and his 950-yards rushing. One thing is certain, following their Week 12 dismantling of the undefeated Titans, the Jets are 8-3 and sitting pretty all alone in first place in the AFC East.
fantasy impact: Favre has been the wild card of old, throwing 20-touchdowns and 13-interceptions this season, but his presence has rejuvenated the fantasy career of Thomas Jones; 1,090-yards of offense, 25 receptions, and 11-touchdowns this season.

Has the second coming of Brady arrived?
The Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was brilliant once again in Week 12, or at least the quarterback that played Sunday looked like Brady. Quarterback Matt Cassel has found his swagger and has been playing at the highest level passing for over 400-yards in Sunday's win over the Phins.
fantasy impact: Cassel has hit his stride and has done something even Brady has never done, passing for over 400-yards in consecutive weeks. With the Patriots smack in the middle of the hunt, expect to see Cassel going to his big guns Moss and Welker.

Titans no longer perfect and exposed.
It was a tough Sunday for the last of the leagues undefeated as the Titans fell big to the Jets 34-13 in Week 12. The Jets stout run defense limited the Titans to 45-yards on the ground and forced Titan quarterback Kerry Collins to win with his arm.
fantasy impact: The Jets may have exposed the winning formula against Tennessee this season, but unlike the Bears back in Week 10, you better have a good secondary that can compete. Fantasy owners can expect the Titans to put the ball up more as the season goes, but too much inconsistency in the pass game make their receivers risky weekly plays.

Edwards, Bills roll up 54 points in Week 12 win.
In a much needed win, the Bill's quarterback Trent Edwards came up with a big performance on Sunday throwing for two touchdowns and running for two more. The Bills offense rolled up 444-yards and 54 -points in their Week 12 victory.
fantasy impact: Sunday's performance was a good sign for the Bill's young quarterback. Prior to Sunday, Edwards had 10 turnovers with just 4 scores in his last four games and rebounded with 4-touchdowns and no turnovers in Week 12. Edwards is not a strong play, but this turnaround is a good sign for fantasy owners in Dynasty leagues.

Here come the Colts once again.
The Colts posted their fourth straight victory on Sunday and now find themselves right smack in the middle of a playoff race. The 23-20 win over the Chargers on Sunday night improved the Colts to 7-4 on the season.
fantasy impact: The sudden turnaround and surge for the Colts has been the marked by the solid play of quarterback Peyton Manning. In recent weeks Manning has re-established himself as a fantasy force averaging 267-yards per game with 9-touchdowns in his last four starts. Manning has thrown at least two scores in his last 5 games.

Raven's defense too much in Week 12 win.
The Raven's defense and special teams forced 5-turnovers, had two sacks, scored a safety, and scored a defensive touchdown in their blowout win over the Eagles in Week 12. The defense also limited the Eagles passing game to just 120 net yards passing.
fantasy impact: Led by their All-Pros, safety Ed Reed and linebacker Ray Lewis, the Raven's defense continues to be a nightmare for fantasy owners week in and week out.

NFC

Giants are big on Sunday once again.
Even when the wheels stop rolling, the Giants are able to find other means to generate points. Limited to 87-yards on the ground the G-men were able to turn to the pass game led by Eli Manning's 240-yards passing and three touchdowns.
fantasy impact: Opposing defenses will have to go back to chalkboard to find a weakness to stop this squad. With playmakers in the run and pass game, there's too many options available and a big fantasy mess for owners to sort. When healthy, Jacob's is the only reliable play.

Cards fight good fight, but fall short.
The Cardinal's offense rolled up 371-yards of total offense on Sunday in their 8-point loss to the Giants, but the team only managed 23-yards on the ground. Defensively the Cardinals limited the New York, the leagues number rushing offense to a meager 87-yards (77-yards fewer than their average).
fantasy impact: The Cards used their high powered passing game on Sunday to stay competitive. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt called 53 pass plays to only 14 runs. It's not much of a balance, but it is the recipe that works best for the Cards, so don't expect much to change in the future.

Skins hang on in Week 12, led by Portis.
The Redskins running back and the leagues leading rusher has simply defied logic and opposing defenses along the way. Two weeks ago nearly sidelined with a knee injury, Clinton Portis has redefined toughness by not only playing injured, but playing well rushing for 143 yards in Week 12.
fantasy impact: Portis has been missing most of his team's practice lately resting the knee, not that he even needs practice. Fantasy owners should continue to plug away with him as long as he feels well enough to go.

It's Romo to TO leading the way for the Boys.
Finally Cowboys fans got what they were waiting to see. On Sunday Tony Romo passed for his 5th 300-yard game on the season and turned in his 5th three touchdown game. The added treat for fans was Terrell Owens being on the other end of some of Romo's big throws on Sunday. TO finished with 7 catches for 213-yards receiving to go with a spectacular 75-yard catch and run for a score.
fantasy impact: It was a long time coming, but the two finally found their groove on Sunday and the Cowboys won big. A recipe made in fantasy heaven and one that the Cowboys will continue to mix with down the stretch of the 2008 season.

Bears rookie runs loose over Rams.
The Bears rookie running back Matt Forte broke loose for his best game of his young career rushing for a season and career high 132 yards. Forte added two rushing touchdowns on the afternoon in the Bears big win over the Rams.
fantasy impact: The Bears rookie runner has become a solid RB1 this season with 3 100-yard rushing performances and 9 total touchdowns this season. With 45 receptions he's a must play every week, including PPR leagues.

Falcons continue to soar in the South.
With a big win on Sunday over the division leaders, the Falcons find themselves back in the NFC South hunt at 7-4. The Falcons number two rushing offense did what they do well scoring on the ground 5 times on the ground and racking up
fantasy impact: The Falcons RB Michael Turner has become a fantasy stud this season. QB Matt Ryan should be considered a mid QB2 and safe flex, and as he continues to play well for the Falcons, WR Roddy White remains a solid WR1.

Eagles stumble, McNabb gets benched.
The Eagles quarterback struggled completing only 8 passes on Sunday for 59 yards to go with 3 turnovers all in the first half. McNabb did not play in the second half after being benched in favor of back up quarterback Kevin Kolb.
fantasy impact: Despite his benching on Sunday after a dismal performance, head coach Andy Reid has reaffirmed that Donovan McNabb is his quarterback and will start Thursday night against the Cardinals. Owners should look for McNabb to bounce back against a Cardinals defense that does not put a lot of pressure on the quarterback.
