Week 10...
NFL Weekly Storylines
AFC
Broncos lose Pittman and Hall.
Following Sunday's stunning home loss to the Dolphins, the team announced Monday that they had placed both Michael Pittman (neck) and Andre Hall (wrist) on the injured reserve ending both of their seasons.
fantasy impact: With Pittman out of the picture and the short week to prepare, RB Selvin Young looks like a long shot to start, but could be active. This would leave RB Ryan Torain as the front runner to start, but owners will have to see how much Young practices. Either way both could have some value in the second half and should be on fantasy rosters.
Quinn to start Thursday night.
According to ESPN's Trey Wingo, the Browns will make a change at the quarterback position this week benching starter Derek Anderson in favor of Brady Quinn. Quinn will make his debut this Thursday night against the Bronco's on the NFL Network.
fantasy impact: Fantasy owners looking for help at the quarterback position may be interested in taking a shot with Quinn. This Thursday he will make his first start against one of the leagues worst defenses and could have a productive day.
Schaub to miss up to a month.
According to ESPN news, an MRI taken Monday confirmed that Schaub suffered a torn MCL in the team's loss on Sunday to the Vikings. Schaub is expected to miss up to a month due to the injury. Sage Rosenfels will get the start in Schaub's place.
fantasy impact: There's no question Rosenfels, if available, will be one of the hottest tickets on the waiver wires this week. Rosenfels has already shown he has a big arm and great chemistry with WR Andre Johnson. The two connected 9 times, including a score in Week 5.
Charles will make first start this Sunday.
With running backs Larry Johnson (suspension) and Kolby Smith (placed on Injured Reserve) out for week 10, the starting duties will fall to rookie running back Jamaal Charles. Charles' ran for over 100 yards in Week 9, and this Sunday would be his first career start.
fantasy impact: The Chiefs will visit the NFL's 16th ranked run defense in Week 10. Charles turned in a solid Week 9 performance against the Buc's and should do well against the Chargers this coming Sunday. Owners with LJ should pick up Charles as a great hand-cuff going forward. If you can use a final bye-week fill, Charles could be a nice option.
Ravens hush about starting RB.
Following a big performance by rookie running back Ray Rice, who ran for 154 yards on the ground in the team's Week 9 game against the Browns, head coach John Harbaugh has not indicated who would start in Week 10.
fantasy impact: When the season began there was a lot of skepticism surrounding running back Willis McGahee. With the emergence of Rice in Week 9 and McGahee's chronic injury status, don't be surprised to see Rice get the starting nod. Rice who will figure to see many touches in Week 10 should be owned in all leagues, but owners will have to wait to see what to happens with McGahee (ankle).
NFC
Hightower the man in the desert.
On Sunday, just before the start of their Week 9 matchup with the Rams, the Cardinals announced that Hightower would start. The rookie played well carrying the ball 22 times and rushing for more than 100 yards.
fantasy impact: Head coach Ken Whisenhunt reaffirmed his decision to go with Hightower as his starter. The rookie will likely start the rest of the season and should be on someone's fantasy roster going forward, if he's not he should be grabbed.
Culpepper to see action soon?
The Detroit Lions starting quarterback Dan Orlovsky injured his thumb in Sunday's game with the Bears. He is out indefinitely with a sprained thumb and FOX Sports is reporting he could miss a few weeks.
fantasy impact: With Orlovskys' status in the air, Culpepper who was just signed could see a majority of the reps this week and have a shot to start in Week 10. While he is not recommend to pick up, it could be an interesting development worth watching. If Culpepper still has any arm strength left, with Megatron to throw to, anything could happen.
Hill to start Monday night for Niners.
The Niners will not only make their 2008 debut on Monday Night football, as will the Cardinals, but quarterback Shaun Hill will make his third start as the starting quarterback for the Niners. Hill is in his 7th season as an NFL quarterback.
fantasy impact: The Niners offense, with the exception of RB Frank Gore, has not been very fantasy friendly this season. With the change, following his second half performance in Week 8, there does look like hope could be coming. Hill was more efficient and effective, getting rid of the ball more quickly and moving the offense much betters. Fantasy owners should eye players like WR Bryant Johnson and TE Vernon Davis (if he's out of the dog-house) going forward.
Hasselbeck not likely to return
The Seahawks quarterback is expected to possibly return to practice this week, although head coach Mike Holmgren did not sound optimistic about his chances to play this Sunday on the road at Miami.
fantasy impact: The news does not sound to promising for fantasy owners hoping to see Hasselbeck back out there soon, but the silver lining is, it does not sound like Hasselbeck's season is over and that he could return at some point.
Bears lose Orton for several weeks.
The Bears starting quarterback Kyle Orton suffered an ankle sprain on Sunday and left the game on a cart. An MRI on Monday revealed no torn ligaments, but Orton is still expected to miss up to a month.
fantasy impact: The Bears will roll out with quarterback Sexy-Rexy with Orton on the sideline for a while. With the Titans up next on the slate, Grossman is not worth picking up on any fantasy roster at this time. Looking ahead to weeks 11 &12, Grossman has decent matchups and could be worth a look depending on how he handles this weeks' tough matchup.
