Sunday’s Pick Six - Week 4

QB - Justin Herbert
The Chargers signal caller has been hot to start the 2025 season averaging nearly 290 yards passing per game with 6 touchdown passes to one pick.

RB - Isiah Pacheco
Not a lot of reason to like Pacheco, but he’s a talented and hard nose runner between the tackles, a soft spot of the Ravens defense last week. This could be Pacheco's breakout game for 2025.

RB - James Cook
The Bills running back James Cook (284 yards rushing - 2nd NFL) is off to a fast start this season and he looks to continue his success against a Saints 14th ranked defense versus running backs in Fantasy.

WR - Keenan Allen
The Chargers veteran wideout has found the fountain of youth with his return to Los Angeles. His 28 targets leads the team; volume is King in Fantasy.

WR - Chris Olave
In what could be a blow out matchup for the Saints, the one constant on offense has been wide receiver Chris Olave. When volume is King in Fantasy, Olave’s league leading 37 targets are gold. He may struggle early, but should make up in garbage time if this one gets away.

TE - Travis Kelce
It’s been a less than stellar start this season for Kelce and the Chiefs offense, but facing a Raven’s defense that ranks 25th versus tight ends in fantasy is just what the doctor ordered. This has the looks of a big bounce back for Kelce who has yet to top 61 yards receiving in a game this season.

NFL WEEK 1: SUNDAY HEROES

NFL Sunday Week 1 is a wrap with a pretty full slate of games played (13). There were plenty of studs that showed up to help league managers secure their weekly matchup or at least put them in a great position to do so.

While the general consensus would agree across the NFL, most defenses seem to be ahead of the offenses, there were still plenty of fireworks and fantasy studs on Sunday.

Leading the undervalued conversation is the Broncos running back JK Dobbins (8.3% started NFL leagues). While he is owned in the majority of all fantasy leagues, he was not valued Pre-Draft, as a fantasy starter. He led the Broncos backfield in touches on Sunday with 18. His 14.8 PPR fantasy points were good enough for a week 1 Top-20 finish. His numbers weren’t off the charts, but garnering the lions-share of touches puts him in the fantasy starter conversation. For now he appears to be a safe flex.

Speaking of undervalued, the Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (0.8% owned NFL leagues), was not only barely drafted in any NFL fantasy leagues, but he led all tight ends in fantasy scoring for Week 1. Johnson hauled in 8 balls for 76 yards receiving on 11 targets. A key factor to Johnson’s success was his 11 targets, a whopping 24% target share. He’s worthy of a waiver wire grab, especially for those league managers with less than favorable options at the position.

Here’s the Week 1 Honor roll:

Week 1 Sunday’s Heroes

Quarterbacks Top-10
Daniel Jones (IND), 272 yds pass, 1 pass TD, 2 rushing TDs (0.5% owned NFL)
Aaron Rodgers (PIT), 244 yds pass, 4 pass TDs (7.9% owned NFL)
Michael Penix Jr (ATL), 298 yds pass, 1 pass TD, 1 rush TD (7.8% owned NFL)

Running Backs Top-20
Travis Etienne Jr. (JAX), 143 yds rush, 3 catches (88.9% owned NFL)
Dylan Sampson (CLE), 8 catches, 64 yds rec, 29 yds rush (11.9% owned NFL)

Wide Receivers Top-20
Keon Coleman (BUF), 8 catches, 112 yds rec, 1 TD (80.9% owned NFL)
Michael Pittman Jr (IND), 6 catches, 80 yds rec, 1 TD (59.5% owned NFL)
Calvin Austin III (PIT), 4 catches, 70 yds rec, 1 TD (0.5% owned NFL)
Kayshon Boutte (NE), 6 catches, 103 yds rec (0.2% owned NFL)
Cedric Tillman (CLE), 5 catches, 52 yds rec, 1 TD (2% owned NFL)

Tight Ends Top-10
Harold Fannin Jr. (CLE), 7 catches, 63 yds rec (0.3% owned NFL)
Noah Fant (CIN), 4 catches, 26 yds, 1 TD (0.6% owned NFL)

These were your Sunday Studs for Week 1. Check your leagues free agent pool for availability.

Sunday Morning Gametime

We are a mere two hours until the first NFL Sunday kicks off.

Get your lineups set and submit your DFS plays for week 1.

Today’s plays I like…

I have Baker Mayfield in a few today, even without Godwin and McMillan, he has enough weapons to put up points.

Same game, I am a believer in “The Drake.” With a new quarterback wide receiver Drake London figures to be a focal point in the Falcons air attack. Last season at home London posted a line of 12/154/1.

With rain in the forecast, it figures to be a sloppy mess in New England. I like the Patriots defense at home today.

The Lions secondary allows a lot of yards and catches to opposing receivers, I have the Packers rookie receiver Matthew Golden all over my plays.

With another game looking at less than ideal weather, I have a few Chuba Hubbard plays against a suspect Jaguar run defense from 2024.

That’s My Take.

“THE FOUR HORSEMEN: WEEK ONE”

It’s NFL Sunday week one (only hours away) and it’s time to get it started with my Weekly Four Horsemen. These are the weekly fantasy studs I pick to outperform their weekly DFS salary (by more than 2.5 times).

QB - Baker Mayfield (TB), DK Salary $6,600
It’s a new season and another chance for “Shake-N-Bake” Baker Mayfield to get cooking once again. This weekend on the road against Atlanta should be no different for Mayfield, even without a couple of familiar targets (Chris Godwin-OUT, Jalen McMillian-IR). Mayfield will still have receivers Mike Evans, Sterling Shepard, tight end Cade Otton, and rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka to target. In two games last season against the Falcons, Mayfield averaged 25.3 (DK) fantasy points per game, with 510 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and 53 rushing yards. The Falcons defense also ranked in the bottom 3rd against opposing quarterbacks, allowing the 7th most fantasy points.

RB - Jahmyr Gibbs (DET), DK Salary $7,700
Could 2025 be the year of Gibbs. Down the back stretch of 2024, the Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs caught lightning in bottle finishing as the fantasy RB3 from weeks 12 thru week 17. In two games last season against the Packers, Gibbs averaged nearly 17 (DK) fantasy points per game, rushing for 108 yards, collecting 7 balls for 41 yards receiving, and adding two touchdowns. Last season the Packers defense struggled against opposing running backs in the passing game, allowing the 4th most receptions and 3rd most receiving yards. I’m expecting to see a lot of Gibbs on Sunday, especially out of the backfield.

WR - Matthew Golden (GB), DK Salary $4,900
With this pick I am entering a little bit into the realm of the unknown. The Packers rookie receiver Matthew Golden put very little on tape in the preseason, but the whispers coming out of the Packers training camp have been very positive. Golden appears poised to take the lead reins in the Packers receivers room and facing a Lions defense that allowed the 10th most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers he’s got a good shot. The Lions allowed 2nd most receptions and the most receiving yards to opposing wideouts. Golden could be fantasy gold on Sunday.

TE - Hunter Henry (NE), DK Salary $3,900
The Patriots tight end could be a steal at his current salary, especially with a home matchup against a Raiders defense that ranked 4th worst against opposing tight ends. Henry scored at least 9.4 (DK) fantasy points in 8 of his last 11 games (week 6 thru week 17). In 2024 the Raiders defense allowed the 5th most receptions and receiving yards to opposing tight ends and 10 touchdowns (2nd most). Henry is positioned to finish as a TE1 in Week 1.

THE TAKEAWAY: THURSDAY & FRIDAY NIGHT

A couple of exciting games in the books for week one already, and plenty to talk about through the fantasy lens. These are my headlines and takes from the Thursday and Friday night games just played.

Cowboys at the Eagles
Eagles are a running team
Despite the talent out wide, the Eagles offense starts and finishes with the ground game. It’s apparent they lean heavily on the legs of quarterback Jalen Hurts (14 carries) and running back Saquon Barkley (18 carries).
Fly-Eagles-Fly, sometimes…
With so much emphasis and success with the run game, the Eagles pass game will be sporadic at times. In their week 1 win, Hurts attempted just 23 passes, while the offense totaled 38 carries.
Dak is Back
He may not be the old Dak (Prescott), but he looked like a pretty good carbon copy. Prescott was dropping dimes, but unfortunately so was his best receiver. Prescott was 21 of 34 for 188 yards, but his numbers could have been much better. Too soon to roll out, but he could enter the QB1 conversation by mid-season.
CeeDee will dominate in 25
The Cowboys wide receiver (CeeDee Lamb) looked unstoppable at times, but fortunately for the Eagles defense, Lamb was his best defender with a couple of critical drops. By the end of the night Lamb turned in 7 catches for 110 yards receiving, on 13 targets, but his night could have and should have been huge.
Cowboys run game a mirage?
The Cowboys got some decent production on the ground from running backs Javonte Williams (54 yards rushing, two touchdowns) and Miles Sanders (53 yards rushing), but you have to wonder how different it might have been had Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter not been ejected. The jury is still out on the Cowboys backfield and ground game.

Chiefs at the Chargers
Herbert cool as ice cream sherbert
The Chargers signal caller was not a name tossed around much in the preseason fantasy conversation, but after his week 1 performance, especially with his legs, he has to be part of the QB1 conversation now; 318 yards passing (three touchdown passes) and 32 yards rushing.
Hampton looks solid in debut
The Chargers rookie running back Omarion Hampton didn’t post week 1 numbers that jump off the page, but if you watched the game, he had some very nice runs inside. His totals were skewed with several no gains and loss of yards down the stretch as the Chargers tried to shorten the game with the lead. He looks the part of a solid fantasy RB2.
The Old man finds the fountain again
Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen may be back, but Friday night he looked as if he never left. The savvy veteran receiver found ways to get open, on his way to a 7 catch, for 68 yards receiving with a score night.
Quentin is in, the fun shall begin
The Chargers passing game highlighted the teams success on offense and Quentin Johnson Jr led the way, snagging 5 balls, for 79 yards receiving, and two scores on 7 targets. He was kind of the forgotten man clearing concussion protocol this week, but I’m sure every fantasy manager will remember his name on Waiver wire day ahead of week 2.
McConkey part of the Three Amigos
You could say, Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is the gringo amigo in the trio of Johnson, Allen, and McConkey. This may be a bit of an over-reaction, but all Three Amigos appear to be fantasy relevant after Friday night’s performance. McConkey was second on the team with 9 targets, one behind Allen (10), and two ahead of Johnson (7). With this share size (26%), McConkey is locked in as a solid fantasy WR2 in PPR.
Hollywood Shines in Brazil
With the absence of Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice and 2nd year wideout Xavier Worthy exiting early in the Friday night contest, the door was wide open for Marquise Brown to walk through, which is what he did. With 10 receptions, for 99 yards receiving on 16 targets, Brown led all Chiefs pass catchers in both categories; JuJu Smith-Schuster was next with 5 targets. Brown’s stock is on a mad rise and for the time being should continue, but only time will tell when Rice and Worthy return. For the moment, Brown appears locked in as the Chiefs number one.
Kelce remains a TE1
This should have been a quiet game for Kelce, but a 4th quarter 37-yard touchdown reception preserved his night. As long as his quarterback is Patrick Mahomes, Kelce always has a chance to score and should be considered a low-end TE1.
JuJu shows up for Chiefs
We haven’t really heard his name much since he joined the Chiefs, but a trip to Brazil may be just what JuJu Smith-Schuster needed to remind everyone who he is. The Chiefs receiver contributed a decent effort posting 5 catches for 55 yards receiving. If Xavier Worthy (shoulder) misses any extended time, Smith-Schuster could return to fantasy relevance in the short term.
Mr.Mahomes shows his legs in week 1
The Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 258 yards and a score in Friday night’s loss to the Chargers. It’s the 7th game in his last 8 starts that he has not reached 300 yards in the air, but his use of his legs (57 yards rushing with a touchdown) adds another dimension to his arsenal that will keep him in the fantasy QB1 tier.

Watercooler Wednesday

NFL WEEK ONE IS HERE

We are less than 24 hours from the NFL officially kicking off the 2025 season, with the Thursday Night Game, featuring the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. As I count down to kickoff, I just completed my 3rd Best Ball draft on the Underdog site. Best Ball is a different beast with the 20 second clock, but can hardly get enough. I may squeeze one more in before kickoff.

Much like any draft, you’re trying to build depth, but the interesting difference is the deeper bench. Players that came to mind tonight, looking ahead to the 2025 season, I found that I really like CJ Stroud to bounce back this season.

With a backfield in flux (no Joe Mixon to start the season), I can see the offense leaning on the pass early. Wide receiver Nico Collins will figure big, but look for tight end Dalton Shultz to be a sneaky sleeper early in the season, as the Texans youthful receiving group find their football sea legs.

That’s My take for Watercooler Wednesday.

DRAFT WEEKEND DAY PREP

It’s the final weekend, in fact we are down to the last day (of the weekend) before NFL opening weekend and the kickoff of the 2025 Fantasy Football Season. The season will officially kickoff on Thursday night September 4th, so the clock is ticking, time to get your notes in order, your prep wrapped up, and your strategy perfected for the biggest Draft weekend Day on the calendar.

Thus far I have participated in one Dynasty draft, two home leagues (deep roster) drafts, (7) NFL & ESPN fantasy leagues and an Auction draft. And what I have learned is that I am all over the place. Trying to build the perfect roster is no easy task, and it’s also built on a lot of personal preference.

With a couple of home league drafts scheduled for Monday, as I prep for these remaining drafts, here are some of my draft targets;

At the top of my list in the early rounds I am fixed on running back Jahmyr Gibbs (Fantasy RB1 from weeks 13 thru 18 in 2024), wide receiver Drake London (Fantasy WR2 from weeks 16 thru 18 in 2024), and quarterback Joe Burrow (Fantasy QB4 from weeks 11 thru 18 in 2024).

In the latter half of the draft I am looking for value in players like the Jets 2nd year running back Braelon Allen (opportunity in a new offense), the Packers 3rd year tight end Tucker Kraft (7 receiving touchdowns in 2024), and Packers quarterback Jordan Love (could be a bounce back in his third full season as the starter).

My 2025 draft darling, if I have one, has to be Broncos tight end Evan Engram. A sure-handed receiving option for the Broncos 2nd year quarterback (Bo Nix) who should have a rather safe floor for fantasy managers. With very little competition for targets, he’s poised to command a large share and could finish top-5. Just two seasons ago Engram was the fantasy TE4, finishing with 114 receptions on 143 targets, something he has a shot at coming close to this season. His current ADP (8.09) has him coming off the boards around the 8th round as the fantasy TE9.

That late in the draft with his upside, I love the set up and his value.

That’s My Take.

MY 2025 FAVORITES: WIDE RECEIVER POSITION

This season the wide receiver position is very deep and my favorites list is very long. With player names like Michael Pittman Jr, Jayden Reed, Deebo Samuel, and Cooper Kupp ranked higher than number 40 in the preseason PPR rankings, there are plenty of late round fliers with upside.

On that note, some of my early round favorites include the Jaguars 2nd year wideout, Brian Thomas Jr. (12th in fantasy points per game in 2024). With 133 targets a season ago, this Jaguar appears ready for a big 2025 Campaign. Another early grab is the Falcons wide receiver Drake London; I love “The Drake!” London was the Fantasy WR14 last season with 158 targets, including 39 in his last three games with Michael Penix Jr under center. London appears very capable of duplicating his target count this season, which puts him in line for another solid output.

As I make my way into the middle round, my top two favorites for the 2025 season are the Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton and the Packers rookie receiver Matthew Golden. Sutton is coming off his best fantasy season with career high in receptions (81) and targets (135). With another year catching passes from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, I really like Sutton’s chances at besting his 2024 season.

In Green Bay, there has been nothing but non-stop raves surrounding the rookie receiver (Golden), who is having an outstanding training camp according to reports. He’s developing into a favorite of quarterback Jordan Love. Last season the Packers passing game and along with Love sputtered for much of 2024 and without a true Alpha-receiver, there’s opportunity for Golden. The take on Golden is he is a good route runner with solid hands and there’s opportunity for him to emerge as the Packers number one.

MY 2025 FAVORITES: RUNNING BACK POSITION

I’ve been making my way through a few more fantasy football drafts of late (can’t seem to get enough these days) and as I am going through the process of selection, I am finding myself targeting a lot of the same players. At the top of the draft the easy favorites include the Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (likely a league winner this season), the Niners Christian McCaffrey, and the Bucs Bucky Irving.

In 2024, during the back stretch leading to and through the fantasy playoffs (week 12 thru week 17), Gibbs finished less than a fantasy point behind Saquon Barkley (fantasy RB1) in fantasy points per game. Irving also makes this list finishing as the fantasy RB7. McCaffrey missed 13 games during the 2024 season, but in 2023 (when he was healthy) CMC played in 16 and finished as the runaway fantasy RB1 (PPR scoring) averaging 24.5 fantasy points per game. He’s healthy this season, so I have no qualms about taking him early.

Looking ahead into the middles rounds and deeper into the fantasy drafts, these are my biggest favorites in the backfield for the 2025 fantasy football season. Just like CMC, the Commanders also possess a former number one fantasy running back in Austin Ekeler.

While I am not calling for a return to the fountain of youth for Ekeler, despite missing time in 2024 to injury, when given the opportunity he performed. Last season Ekeler posted double-digit fantasy points in 8 of his 11 games played, including a three-game stint (weeks 9 thru 11) where he averaged 17.7 fantasy points per game, ranking as the fantasy RB8 during this stretch. With Brian Robinson being traded this preseason, a healthy Ekeler appears to have a great opportunity to resurge in 2025.

Another backfield fantasy favorite of mine in 2025 is the Bears running back D’Andre Swift. Reuniting with his former play caller (the Bears new Head Coach) Ben Johnson, Swift has an opportunity to run with the Jahmyr Gibbs role in the Chicago offense.

While he may not be quite Gibbs, Swift is more than a capable back with (I believe) some juice left in the tank. In 2024 he showed some of his flash during a seven-game stretch (weeks 4 thru 11) where he averaged 18.3 fantasy points per game with only 5 rushing touchdowns. He totaled 764 yards of offense (567 rushing + 197 receiving) which ranked 4th behind Bijan Robinson 857, Alvin Kamara 808, and Jahmyr Gibbs 769. He also averaged 4.8 yards per carry during this stretch.

I am a big believer the Ben Johnson effect can move Swift into RB2 country this season.

WEDNESDAY WATERCOOLER

MY 2025 FAVORITES: QUARTERBACK POSITION

As the draft season heats up and we get closer to the 2025 NFL Season Kickoff (Thursday, 9/4/25), it’s time to make some predictions and call my shots for the upcoming 2025 Fantasy season.

I feel a greater buzz of excitement and higher level of electricity as the start of the season nears. There are so many directions I can go with and at all of the positions. So there’s no better place to start than right under the center with the quarterback position.

I have a few (Quarterback) favorites here, so before I dial into my favorite for this season, I’ll share some thoughts on a few of the others. I am with the Broncos quarterback Bo Nix (ADP, QB8). After a strong rookie campaign, I believe head coach Sean Payton will have his QB ready to take even more strides forward this season.

And while the sample size in the preseason was small, it was enough for me to drink the coolaid that the Bears head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams are selling. I saw enough to believe that Williams will be playing at a QB1 level, by the end of the season.

Without question, I feel like Joe Burrow will once again put up strong numbers this season and finish as a top-5 fantasy QB (QB3 in fantasy last season), in spite of offering very little upside with his legs. But he’s not my favorite in 2025.

Two seasons ago, the Packers quarterback Jordan Love finished the regular season as the QB6, fantasy quarterback. He tossed 32 touchdowns, added 4 rushing touchdowns, while passing for over 4,100 yards. With a strong rushing attack led by running back Josh Jacobs, Love has plenty of weapons to return to his 2023 form. This season will be Love’s third full season as the starter and I  believe he is primed for a big year.

Love is my 2025 season favorite under center!

My Diamonds in the Rough

Over the past several days, there’s been some big news coming out of DC and San Francisco. The Commanders have traded Running Back Brian Robinson to the Niners for the 6th round pick, with the implications that Washington is confident in their current backfield. Rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt has been receiving a lot of ink lately and figures to fit in the mix somewhere, but my eyes are on a healthy Austin Ekeler

The veteran running back was banged up a bit last season, missing five games and he turned in his lowest fantasy points per game output, since 2017. Healthy now and with the potential of a more prominent role this season Ekeler could return closer to his 2022 output where he finished at the top of the fantasy running back landscape. With a current ADP (per Fantasy Calculator/12 Teams) of 108, he could be a huge steal in the 9th round.

Another Diamond in the rough catching my eye, as the Fantasy Draft season heats up, a homer pick yes, but a good one, wide receiver Courtland Sutton. I feel good about the Broncos offense this season and believe quarterback Bo Nix will continue to ascend and as he does, so shall his number one target. Sutton led the Broncos a year ago in receiving with 81 receptions, 1,081 yards receiving, 8 touchdowns, on 135 targets. His 135 targets seem more than possible to duplicate, so putting up better numbers is not a stretch. Sutton was the WR27 last season, a mere one fantasy point-per-game from finishing Top-20; where I put him at this season.

One more Diamond that shines through the rough is the Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams. No stranger to fantasy managers, Williams finished as the fantasy WR26 last season posting double-digit fantasy points in six of his last eight games, scoring 4 touchdowns while averaging 7 targets per game. Williams is definitely a fantasy boom candidate, coming off a very strong 2024 campaign. At the prime age of 24, entering his 4th season in Detroit, I expect to see Williams continue to flourish and post even greater numbers this season, peaking into the Top-20 fantasy receiver threshold.

That’s My Take.

PRE-DRAFT QUICK TAKES

All of the buzz or at least some of the pre-season (pre-draft fantasy football) buzz out of San Francisco is 2nd year receiver Ricky Pearsall. Early preseason action indicators would suggest he’s quickly becoming quarterback Brock Purdy’s favorite and number one target. With a banged up receiving corp in the Bay area, Pearsall seems a lock to be the leading receiver for the first half of the season. Fantasy Pros has Pearsall ranked as the WR38.

Another talk of the town in Tampa is the rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka. The word out of camp is 2nd year wideout Jalen McMillan is expected to miss extended time and with Chris Godwin’s return to action (not expected to be available week 1) uncertain, there’s opportunity to Egbuka to rise up. He’s a great sleeper candidate that could pay dividends early in the season.

Staying in Tampa, with the wide receiver room in the situation it is, another sleeper is tight end Cade Otton, a fringe TE1 in 10 leagues last season, finishing as the TE11 (minimum 10 games), averaging 10.0 fantasy points per game (1-point PPR). Otton finished 2024 with 59 receptions (on 87 targets) for 600 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns in 14 games. There are more appealing youthful options available, but Otton looks primed to be a TE1 in the early part of the season and he’s basically going undrafted.

FIRST FANTASY DRAFT IN THE BOOKS

Well the first one is complete and in the books. As I review the results, I am quite satisfied with my team and the execution of my draft strategy.

To start with, let me prefix this summary with a key fantasy stat to keep in mind, in the league, it’s one point per yard, three points-per-reception, and passing touchdowns are 20 points, with all other touchdowns 25 points; this is the ultimate fantasy scoring league.

In this 10-team draft, one of my primary targets was one of the big top five scoring quarterbacks; Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, and Jayden Daniels. My player of choice was Joe Burrow (top scoring player last season). I took the third slot and took Jahmyr Gibbs, followed by The Drake (Drake London) in the second, Joe Burrow in the 4th, Matthew Golden (my 3rd receiver) in the 7th, Even Engram in the 9th, and Cooper Kupp in the 11th round.

These selections highlight how my draft went with Gibbs, London, Burrow, Golden, and Engram sitting at the top of my target list. There was a lot of luck, lots of patience, maybe some quiet wishes, but trusting my instinct and staying on the path.

I had some surprise picks, players I was even looking at (took a couple of flyers with Marquise Brown and Keon Coleman), but I was not detracted and stayed with my strategy and filled my lineup with anchors, high floors, high ceiling, and plenty of reliable depth. I packed my RB room with players like Tank Bigsby, Braelon Allen, and Austin Ekeler - let’s hope some of these pay off.

With the 2nd week of preseason games completed and the 2025 Kickoff only 17 days away, I’ve still got 4 more home (money) leagues and several online league drafts to complete. Time to do more research, until my next draft.

That’s my take.

FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT COUNTDOWN

I f**king love this time of year, no question my favorite. With the NFL season quickly approaching it’s time to get hyped for this year’s Fantasy football season. My annual Home Fantasy Football League (this is the one where the pot grows during the season and winners take is pretty nice - win this one and you own bragging rights for a year) draft is less than 24 hours away. I consider this 10-man league, a PPR league on steroids with a six pack of Monsters on top.

While our scoring is hyped up considerably, most of the fantasy football standard guidelines, practices, and strategies apply. We draft very closely in the same manner as any typical PPR league, with the exception, this is IDP and our roster is huge.

As I prep for the big day tomorrow, a couple of takes I will be bringing with me for the moment I am on the clock. Bucky Irving (my 22nd round keeper), Derrick Henry, and Chase Brown are off the board to start, so my focus is to build backfield depth and grab a top flight receiver early.

Our draft positions are determined by lottery on draft day, so regardless where I fall, I will be looking at running backs Jahmyr Gibbs (talent is too great to overlook) and Christian McCaffrey (bounce back from 2024 injury season) in the first round. Depending on where I fall, late first round or early, in the second round I will anchor my receiving corp with likely Amon-Ra St. Brown (high floor, steady), Nico Collins (Stroud’s number one), or Drake London (love his volume down the stretch).

As I move through rounds 3 through 8, I am looking at players like DK Metcalf (with his size and skill, Rodgers will feed him the ball), Josh Jacobs (Packers may lean more pass this season, but Jacobs is solid), D’Andre Swift (could be undervalued and a nice sleeper this season), Courtland Sutton (as Nix goes this season, so shall Sutton - could be a nice mid WR3/flex).

Some deeper selections I am targeting include, Zach Charbonnet (Walker’s injury history, the Zach attack could be back), Austin Ekeler (healthy, could lead RB’s in receiving this season), and Mathew Golden (willing to reach a little early to secure this cat as my 3rd receiver).

So much to absorb and consider, with the draft less than 24 hours away, time to do more research, some mock drafts, and of course pick up those necessities that will help me survive the long anguishing marathon that is the Fantasy Draft!

That’s my take.

HERE WE GO AGAIN: FANTASY FOOTBALL IS BACK

At the peak of Summer, with the weather sizzling (here in California experiencing triple digits), there’s always a silver lining. The opening of NFL training camps and Preseason games on the NFL Network offer that slight brisk breeze of cool hope and excitement for the NFL & Fantasy Football fan.

With the NFL season still weeks away and Preseason Week 1 in the books, it’s the height of the Mock Draft season and ADP watch. I am a mock-drafting mad-man and I am diving head-first into mocks and public league drafts every day.

There is no better day in the calendar year than Draft day, except maybe Christmas. With NFL action underway, training camps in full swing, and dozens of mock drafts in the books, I am feeling it and getting the itch and great excitement for Draft Day.

The Home league, entering its 20th year has always been the pinnacle of all my annual fantasy football leagues, and with our draft only a few days away, it’s time to get the popcorn ready and your draft supplies together.
