FSH: WEEK 7 PLAYERS ON THE MOVE

October 15th, 2008 11:07pm PST

Players On The Move
(WEEK 7 WAIVER WIRE)

Six weeks down and we move closer to the mid-point of the season for most fantasy leagues. So where do you stack up with the competition? If you been hammered by the injury bug and once again are stuck in search mode endlessly looking for the help you so desperately need, look no further.

Week 6 in the NFL proved to be yet another weekend of great matchups with fantastic finishes and not just notable, but great performances from some of our fantasy favorites! For those owners seeking a title or hungry for a win, let's take a look at what's being served for week 7 as we take a look at "Players on the Move."

Willy Wants Ya (Weekly)"Golden Ticket"

This week's Tickets...

RB-Dominic Rhodes (Ind)....with the Colts running back Joseph Addai's health a question mark, Rhodes could be a nice pick up and fill in this week. Replacing the injured Addai, Rhodes was a solid fill-in with 25 carries for 73 yards rushing and a score. Rhodes is a good compliment to Addai and fits the Colts system well. Check the news wires for updates on Addai, if he's out Rhodes is a solid play in week 7.

WR-Steve Smith (NYG)....welcome to the NFL Mr. Smith. The Giants number three receiver has been mentioned before as a notable stash off the waiver wire. With a chance to play, the former Trojan was big on Monday night. Plaxico Burress is the definitive number one in New York, but fantasy owners should note following his performance Monday night, you could argue that Smith could be moving in on Toomer's number two role. We don't see Smith necessarily threatening Toomer's starting gig, but it does look like Eli will be looking Smith's way more often.

WR-Devin Hester (Chi)....with the name Kyle Orton not raising hairs on the back of fantasy owners' necks these days, the Bears have discovered a hidden talent that they are just beginning to uncover. The steady play of Orton has allowed wide receiver and kick return specialist to become a more reliable receiving option. In his past two games, Hester has been the Bears top pass catcher with 11 receptions for 153 yards. As Orton continues to play well, Hester will keep making plays. While he's only a mid to high WR3, he does have appeal as a strong flex option!

more "Boys on the Move"...

If you're still needing to fill those few holes, here are a couple of reliable options that could stop the bleeding, ease the pain, or at least provide some much needed relief...

Matt Ryan QB (Atl)-....the kid in Atlanta seems to be growing up fast. In week 6 against a Bear's defense that can put a lot of pressure on the quarterback, Ryan was flawless. The rookie completed 22 of 30 passes (73.3% completion) on his way to 301 yards passing (his first 300 yard passing game). Ryan is still only a mid QB2 at best, but he can offer some relief (with good matchups, check schedule) for those owners that were stuck with Kitna, Palmer, or Garcia.

Kevin Walter WR (Hou)-....the Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson has made so much noise the past two weeks, fantasy owners may not have noticed receiver Kevin Walter's 4 catches for 98 yards. Granted that Walter is only a low end WR3 option in most leagues, he does have some upside. Playing along side with Andre, Walter is capable of having big games, just two weeks ago Walter scored twice against the Jaguars.

Bobby Wade WR (Min)-....the Vikings receiver is quietly becoming a steady receiving option in Minnesota. Over his last three games, Wade has collected 19 passes for 210 yards. Even though these are not prolific numbers, they are consistent. With Berrian and Frerotte emerging as a high-profile connect, Wade has a chance to see more single coverage and better matchups!. He's a steady WR3, but can offer fantasy owners a solid bye week fill-in or possible flex option is some leagues.

"Diamond in the Rough"

When you can't find what you need, you just need to dig a little deeper. Here are those hard to find "Hidden Jewels" that have been overlooked or passed over, but could be on the brink of making some fantasy noise.

Your Week 7 Deep Sleepers...

Harry Douglas-WR (Atl).....the Falcons rookie receiver is quickly emerging as a reliable number two wideout in Atlanta. With WR Michael Jenkins still a no show in the fantasy world, Douglas has seized the moment and it could be just a matter of time before he becomes more involved the Falcons passing game. In week 6 Douglas was targeted 7 times and grabbed 5 passes for 96 yards. With Roddy White suddenly emerging as one of the leagues elite pass catchers, the rookie could see many more targets and more production.

Darren McFadden-RB (Oak)....the word from the Raider Nation is rookie running back Darren McFadden has shed the walking boot he usually sports every Monday, a good sign the kid could be nearing good health. McFadden was spectacular back in week two before his toe injury, when he rushed for 164 yards against the Chiefs. With his injury status improving, he could have a chance at competing for the top spot in Oakland. Fantasy owners looking for needed depth, may want to make a move now before the secret lets out.

Sammy Morris-RB (NE).....the Patriots are having all kinds of trouble in their backfield these days with Laurence Maroney and LaMont Jordan both injured. The team has had to turn to third down back Kevin Faulk and RB Sammy Morris to carry the load. With Maroney's health in question, it is likely that Morris would get the start in his place. While nothing more has been made of Maroney's current injury status, just speculating here if he should go down for an extended period Morris could be a nice RB3 or flex option pick-up going forward.

"Lying in wait" under watchful eyes...

...through week 6, these are the players, that are still not considered to be reliable weekly options, but fantasy owners should be keeping an eye on them as their situations could suddenly change making them relevant and worthy of a roster spot!

Running Backs

Ryan Torain RB (Den)...the Bronco's running back will return to practice this week, although there's no chance of him playing Monday night against the Patriots, he is expected to come back 100% in week 9. The writing is on the wall and it looks like Torain will be giving every opportunity to crack the team's starting line up. Fantasy owners holding Pittman should consider handcuffing this back, as it looks like it could come down to these two backs as the primary options to start for the Broncos.

Wide Receivers

Josh Morgan (SF)....the Niner's rookie receiver saw more action on Sunday, although he only recorded one catch for 25 yards. Morgan was targeted 4 times on Sunday and there rumors that he could pushing WR Bryant Johnson for more time. While he's not worth roster consideration, with Martz the OC in San Francisco, there's always a chance Morgan could become productive as the season progresses. He's worth watching for now.

Malcom Floyd (SD)...the Chargers 6'5" receiver saw his first real stint of action this season Sunday night against the Patriots and made the most of his opportunity. Floyd pulled in 3 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Even with Chambers expected return, it looks like Floyd could be the number three on the field, and another added weapon for Rivers to throw to. While we don't think he will be a reliable option just yet, he's definitely worth keeping your eye on.
