FSH: THE ATL REPORT

November, 15th, 2008 8:30pm PST

THE ATL REPORT

Storylines this week:
  • Clinton Portis unlikely to play this Sunday against the Cowboys: The Redskins running back did not practice all week and remains a long shot to play Sunday night against the Cowboys. Running back Ladell Betts is expected to start.
  • Matt Hasselbeck set to return in Week 11 against Cards: The Seahawks quarterback completed a full week of practice and looks ready to make his first start in weeks. Hasselbeck will also be joined by receiver Deion Branch, who is also returning from injury.
  • Tyler Thigpen ready to lead Chiefs in Week 11 against Saints: The Chiefs quarterback has been solid the past three weeks passing for 710 yards with 6 touchdowns. He will face the league's 26th ranked pass defense (Saints) that is battered with injuries to the secondary.
  • Steven Jackson is no-action for Sunday, will miss 2nd game: The Rams will once again be without their running back. Jackson suffered the lingering thigh injury back in Week 7 and has now missed 3 games. His status for Week 12 is unknown.
  • Chris Chambers not on injury report for Week 11: The Chargers receiver is finally healthy and is expected to be back in the starting line up in Week 11. Chambers has been slowed by an ankle injury, but should be good to go Sunday against the Steelers.
  • Reggie Wayne reading for big game against the Texans: The Colts receiver had a big game against the Texans back in Week 5 and should be ready for another this week at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.
  • Kyle Orton listed as probable for Sunday against Packers: The Bears quarterback returned to practice this week, but was limited. He is expected to start, but his mobility could be an issue.
  • Daunte Culpepper set to make second start this Sunday: Despite a poor outing in his debut as the Lions starter last Sunday, Culpepper will get another shot this week. The Lions are planning to keep it simple, so Culpepper won't be expected to do a whole lot.

FSH: NFL WEEKLY ROUND-UP (WK 11)

November 14th, 2008 9:47pm PST

NFL NEWS...
FRIDAY'S HEADLINES

**Steven Jackson doubtful for Week 11 against Niners...
....the Rams running back will sit out his second consecutive game with a lingering thigh injury. Antonio Pittman, who was a full participant in practice Friday will start this Sunday.

**Clinton Portis unlikely to play Sunday night...
....for fantasy owners and the Washington Redskins, it's not looking good for Portis on Sunday. The NFL's 2nd leading rusher this season is unlikely to play Sunday. Portis did not practice on Friday and if he's unavailable, Ladell Betts could start.

**Reggie Bush ruled OUT for Week 11...
....the Saints have announced that their running back will not dress for Sunday's game with the Chiefs. Bush was a long shot to go, having missed practiced Thursday and Friday. A return to the field next week sounds likely.

**Matt Hasselbeck set to start against Cardinals in Week 11...
....the Seahawks quarterback finished off a full week of practice and after being cleared by doctors on Wednesday night, he's set to start Sunday against the Cardinals.

**Kyle Orton is probable for Sunday and could start...
....the Bears quarterback was able to participate in practice on Friday and is listed as probable, meaning he is more than likely going to start against the Packers on Sunday. Orton will be playing with a sore ankle, so mobility could be an issue.

**Deion Branch completes full week of practice...
....the Seahawks wide receiver completed his second day of full practice on Friday and is expected to start on Sunday against the Cardinals. Branch has not played since Week 5.

**Tatum Bell expected to see carries on Sunday...
....the Bronco's recently signed running back was praised for being in good football shape, but it is not likely he'll see a heavy load. Bell is expected to split carries with FB Peyton Hillis. Bell's knowledge of the offense should give him a real opportunity to win the starting job going forward.

**Chris Chambers fully participates in practice Friday...
....the Chargers wide receiver completed a full practice on Thursday with no setbacks and is no longer listed on the injury report. Chambers is expected to start Sunday against the Steelers.

David's Daily Digest
Fantasy News

EARTH-SHAKERS! PLAY-MAKERS!
GAME-BREAKERS!

Niners expect RB Frank Gore to play Sunday against Rams...
.....Gore missed his second straight day of practice nursing a strained neck. Gore says he expects to practice on Friday, so fantasy owners should expect to see number 21 in the lime up. Gore has been solid and is considered a low end RB1 in most fantasy formats.

Steven Jackson looking for doubtful for Sunday against Niners...
.....the Rams running back is still hobbled by the sore thigh muscle and looks like a long shot to play Sunday. Fantasy owners should consider other options, unless Jackson experiences some kind of miraculous recovery before Sunday.

QB Matt Hasselbeck and WR Deion Branch return to practice...
.....both players have missed a lot of time on the field due to injury this season. If both make it back on the field this Sunday, fantasy owners should not expect to see much from either.

Javon Walker says his season is over...
.....the Raider's receiver said he is out for the season with a left ankle injury according to the SFGate.com. The team has yet to comment. Walker has been a fantasy bust ever since his knee injury last season with Denver.

Chiefs RB Larry Johnson back at practice....
.....with running back Jamaal Charles iffy with an ankle injury, there's a good chance not only will LJ play on Sunday, but he could even start for the Chiefs. Johnson has not played for four weeks, but he's been practicing with the team so he's still in shape. Despite the time off, if LJ sees considerable action, fantasy owners can expect results against the Saints.

Buc's RB Warrick Dunn returns to practice...
.....the Buc's shifty back returned to full participation in practice for second consecutive day and looks like a cinch to play Sunday. With Graham banged up a bit, Dunn could see more work

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers practices fully...
.....the Packers quarterback is finally getting healthier and could soon return to his early season form. After completing a full participation practice for the first time since Week 4, Rodger's appears ready to have a big game against the Bear's 30th ranked pass defense. Fantasy owners need to have Rodgers in their line ups this Sunday.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo will start Sunday night against Redskins...
.....with the pinkie not expected to be a problem, Romo looks set to start Sunday night and with newly acquired Roy Williams joining TO in the starting lineup, he should be a decent play for fantasy owners. In their first meeting Romo passed for 300 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Redskins RB Portis in serious doubt after missing practice....
.....the Redskins running back sat out of practice again on Thursday and appears more doubtful for Sunday night's showdown with the Cowboys. Fantasy owners should start considering other options with this latest news on Portis.

QB Daunte Culpepper to start for second consecutive week...
.....Culpepper's first stint as the team's starter last week was not a flying success completing only 5 passes. This week will likely not fair much better facing the Panthers number 8th ranked defense. Owners should not consider Culpepper an option in any format.

Raven's WR Derrick Mason not practicing.....
.....Mason suffered a shoulder injury last Sunday and will be resting this week in hopes of feeling well enough to play on Sunday. While Mason is optimistic, the Raven's wideout does not offer much fantasy value other than in PPR leagues. If you can go another direction, that would be the safe play here.

RB Darren McFadden likely to play Sunday against the Dolphins.....
.....according to the Contra Costa Times, the Raiders rookie running back returned to practice and felt pretty good. It was noted that head coach Tom Cable was optimistic about McFadden's return this Sunday. Fantasy owners should be careful not to buy too deep into any of this. D-Mac has not see action in weeks and would be a very risky play.

IDP NEWS...

Eagles CB Samuels misses practice....
....the Eagles defense has been steady this season, but losing Samuels (hip) could hurt. Samuels leads the team with 3 interceptions this season.

Keith Bulluck misses second day of practice...
....the Titan's linebacker has been a non-participant for two straight practices, but word is he's still expected to play. Unless he misses practice on Friday, IDP owners should count on seeing him play too. Bulluck leads the team with 58 tackles this season.

Vanden Bosch misses second day of practice...
....the Titan's defensive lineman still has a chance to play Sunday, if he can practice Friday. Owners should check back to see his status for Week 11. Vanden Bosch has 3 sacks this season.

Packers CB Woodson still limited in practice...
.......this is pretty much the norm for Woodson during the week, owners should expect to see him on the field this Sunday. Woodson is tied for the team lead with 5 interceptions this season.

Raiders Safety Gibril Wilson misses practice...
......Wilson sat out of practice with a sore lower back, but this injury sounds more like a day off to rest than anything IDP owners should be concerned about. To be safe, owners need to check his status Friday. Wilson is second on the team with 76 tackles this season.

Bronco's CB Champ Bailey returns to practice....
.....the Bronco's will have a big challenge trying to matchup with the Falcon's receivers White and Jenkins this week. It would be a huge boost to the defense for Bailey to return. He was a light participant Thursday, Friday should tell the story.

FSH: WEEK 11 PLAYERS ON THE MOVE

November 12th, 2008 10:47pm PST

Players On The Move
(WEEK 11 WAIVER WIRE)

In a season that has been marked by the sudden rise of the rookie running back, Week 10 took a bit of a turn and was filled with big performances coming from the tight end position. Names like Gonzales, Winslow, and Scheffler led the way this past week with solid play in the receiving game. Week 11 will offer no shortage of tight ends with a full slate of games and with some of the more notables returning, i.e., Romo, Bush, Parker, and Johnson the right decisions for your weekly line up gets tougher and tougher to make. With the clock winding down on waiver wire moves and/or trade deadlines, in the words of Willy Wonka, get your Golden Ticket here.

Willy Wants Ya (Weekly) "Golden Tickets"

This week's Tickets...

QB-Brady Quinn (Cle)....the Brown's quarterback was impressive in his first start, even if it was the Bronco's defense that he faced. Owners will likely go nuts this week trying pick up the former Fighting Irish, but should be careful lending a lot of weight on how he played last Thursday night, considering who he faced. His performance was impressive and in Dynasty leagues he'll offer much more value for the future, but for now the jury is likely still out on this one.

TE-Kevin Boss (NYG)....the Giants tight end has quickly become a fantasy favorite scoring in his third straight game. Boss has clearly become one of Eli's hot targets in the red-zone this season and considering the lack of depth at the TE position in fantasy this year, his value is on the rise. If Boss is still lingering on the waiver wire, he's a must grab and with the way the offense is playing he should be a safe low end TE1 the rest of the way.

TE-Dustin Keller (NYJ)....a big Week 10 surprise, was the play of the Jets rookie tight end Dustin Keller. Coming into the season, Keller was a preseason sleeper favorite, especially with the acquisition of tight end friendly quarterback Brett Favre. Against the Rams Keller showed fantasy owners and the Jets, just what the kid can do when utilized. Owners should expect this trend to continue and make a move for the rookie if you can.

More "MEN ON THE MOVE"...

So here's where it get exciting kids. We've reached the back stretch of the 2008 NFL season, the dogs have been turned loose and there are no more bye weeks to consider. With all your options now available and in play, where can fantasy owners turn for help and where will these "Men on the Move" land in Week 11.

QB-Tyler Thigpen (KC).....the Chiefs quarterback has been solid in his last three starts, including two of those with passer ratings over 108. With weapons like tight end Tony G and wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, Thigpen's confidence is growing and he continues to get better and better. Fantasy owners will eye Thigpen as a viable QB2 option and with LJ coming back and the Saints up next, he's got a great Week 11 matchup.

TE- Bo Scaife (TEN).....the Titan's tight end has become a solid fantasy option this season. On a team that is predominantly a run team, Scaife has emerged as the team's leading receiver and quarterback Kerry Collin's go to receiver. Scaife has 42 receptions this season, including 10 last Sunday against the Bears. Fantasy owners looking for steady play at the tight spot should grab the Titan now.

TE-Todd Heap (BAL).....the Ravens tight end has been relatively quiet and forgotten for the most part of this season. Last Sunday Heap was targeted a season high 6 times and came on like a gang buster registering 5 catches, including two for touchdowns. Heap has always had ability and great size, so look for the Raven's to finally start taking advantage of his play-making skills in the pass game.

WR-Tedd Ginn Jr (Mia).....the Dolphin's 2nd year receiver is finally coming into his own this season and has really come on in his last four starts with 18 receptions for 328 yards and a touchdown. Ginn Jr has tremendous playmaking ability and appears to finding his groove with his new quarterback. Look for Ginn's number to continue to be called and his production to increase.

"DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH"

Fantasy owners are always "Searching the scrap heaps" looking for those hidden gems to shine at the right moment. Could this week's "Diamonds in the rough" be one of our fantasy studs of tomorrow?.....

Your Week 11 Deep Sleepers...

WR-Donte Stallworth (Cle)....the Brown's receiver is finally healthy and participating on Sunday. In Week 10 Stallworth found himself involved in the passing game with 4 catches for 48 yards. Stallworth has not see much action this season due to injuries, but if he can remain healthy, he could become a possible sleeper down the stretch.

WR-Brandon Jones (TEN).....it has been a long time coming, but could the Titans have finally found their go to wide receiver? Jones has been contributing steady the last several weeks, including 8 receptions in Week 10 and 16 in his last three games. With Justin Gage taking forever to get back on the field, owners can expect to see more of Jones in the passing game.

RB-Julius Jones (Sea)....the Seahawks running back was effective in Week 10 rushing for 88 yards with no passing game in support. With the prospects of Hasselbeck returning in Week 11, Jones could find more room to roam in the running game. Jones is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and could be a decent option once Seattle's offense gets healthy.

WR-Malcom Floyd (SD)....the Chargers receiver has been floating in and out of the waiver wire family since his emergence back in Week 6. Since his insertion into the line up back in Week 6, Floyd has become a big play threat for the Chargers and score in three of his last four games. Floyd was in the starting lineup last Sunday for the injured Chambers and could be there again in Week 11.

RB-Chester Taylor (Min)....the Vikings number two running back is quietly averaging 13 touches per game over his last three games played. In two of the three contest, he has also found the end-zone. Taylor's definitely not worth playing as one of your weekly starters in any formats, but with 13 receptions in his last three games he does offer considerable value as a flex option in PPR leagues.

"LYING IN WAIT" UNDER WATCHFUL EYES...

At this stage of the game most fantasy owners should have their horses in play and set for their stretch run to the playoffs. If you are still looking to fill a few holes left on your rosters and choices appear to be scarce, consider these "Players to watch" as possible candidates to do the trick.

Your Week 11 Players to watch....

RB-Tatum Bell (DEN).....the Bronco's former running back is returning to familiar ground where he once eclipsed the 1,000 yard barrier. He's not a fantasy option at the moment, but give head coach Mike Shanahan time, he can turn any running back into a fantasy stud.

RB-Kevin Smith (DET).....the Lions finally made the move to go with Smith as their starter in Week 10 and the results were solid. Smith rushed for 96 yards, scored a touchdown, and added a 27-yard reception. Now the starter in Detroit, Smith will have a chance to blossom and could see his fantasy value grow.

TE-Daniel Graham (GB)....with the Bronco's tight end Tony Scheffler back in the line up, his opportunities could be limited, but Daniel Graham has scored a touchdown in three of his last four games. The lack of a running game in Denver could mean more balls to go around in the passing game. Keep your eye on the Bronco's "other" tight end.

WR-Sidney Rice (Min)....the Vikings receiver has not been on any kind of tear, but since returning to action, Rice has managed to find the end-zone in two straight games. Rice has not cracked the starting line up yet, but at 6'4" he is always a threat in the red-zone. Keep your eye on Rice, he could eventually work his way into a bigger role in the passing game.

FSH: DAVID'S DAILY DIGEST (FANTASY NEWS)

November 11th, 2008 8:30pm PST

FSH: David's Daily Digest
Fantasy News

EARTH-SHAKERS! PLAY-MAKERS!

GAME-BREAKERS!

Broncos sign free agent RB Tatum Bell...
....the Bronco's had just placed running back Ryan Torain on the Injured Reserve Monday, and in desperate need they will turn to a familiar face. Running back Tatum Bell's first stint in Denver was short lived, but at times showed promise. There is speculation he could play Sunday, but he'd hardly be worth starting in any fantasy formats so soon.

Holmgren expects Hasselbeck to play Sunday...
....the current word out of the Northwest, Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is expected to return to practice on Wednesday. According to Holmgren, along as he practices well and does not show any ill signs he will start Sunday. Hardly the raving endorsement owners would hope to hear, but keep your eye on Hass, if he makes it through Friday, he'll be a go but hardly worth playing just yet.

Romo expected to be under center against Redskins...
.... the Cowboys are not only expecting, but they are counting on Tony Romo returning this week to face the Redskins. Romo has been throwing since last week and will practice Wednesday. In his absence the offense has struggles, along with skill players like TO and Witten. Fantasy owners can breathe a heavy sigh of relief, unless Romo suffers some kind of setback, he should be on the field Sunday.

Tampa expected to activate Williams on Wednesday...
.....according to TheLedger.com unless Williams suffers some sort of setback, he will likely be activated by Wednesday's deadline. Williams has been on the PU list since the season started and the team must decide to activate him or place him on the IR. Even if Williams is activated, he's a high risk play, probably not worthy of picking up in redraft league, at least until owners see how he's going to be used.

Steelers expect to have FWP back this Sunday...
....according to The Canadien Press, the Steelers running back Willie Parker will return to practice Wednesday, and head coach Mike Tomlin is optimistic he will play Sunday against the Chargers. If Parker is able to practice all week with no setbacks, he's a safe low end RB2 this week against the Chargers.

Portis is doubtful for Week 11 against Cowboys...
....it may be a bit early to discount the leagues number two running back from Sunday's showdown with the Cowboys, but the prognosis currently is not looking good. Head coach Jim Zorn did not sound confident when saying "He's questionable." Fantasy owners should be ready to make alternative plans if Portis is not practicing by Friday.

Bulger to remain starter in St.Louis...
....whether the team went another direction with Green or stayed with Bulger, neither quarterback is going to offer much value unless running back Steven Jackson is back in the line up. Both quarterbacks are prone to injury, but Bulger does have the stronger arm that fits the receiving personnel, but he will need Action Jackson back to even be considered for Week 11.

Orton hopeful to play Sunday against the Packers...
....the Bears quarterback was walking without a limp on Monday and just wearing a small brace on his right ankle. Sunday before the game with the Titans' Orton had decided he couldn't go, with a couple of days to rehabilitate he will test the ankle on Wednesday. If Orton can go, he's been a solid QB2 this season, but faces a tough matchup against the Packers secondary that has 16 picks this season. Fantasy owners should consider other options if available.

IDP NEWS...

Packers lose LB Barnett for the season...
....the Packers linebacker suffered a torn knee ligament that will require surgery to repair and end Barnett's season. The Packers defense has been solid versus the pass this season, but has had it's problems against the run. The loss Barnett will not help Green Bay get this corrected anytime soon.

Saints lose McKenzie for the remainder of the year...
....the Saints defensive back will require surgery to repair a fractured right patella. McKenzie suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Falcons. With McKenzie out, the Saints who also lost Aaron Glenn with an ankle injury (severity unknown) are now thin in a secondary (ranked 27th) that is getting beat up each week by the opposition.

Raven's place a pair of defensive backs on Injured Reserve...
.......the Raven's placed cornerback Chris McAllister and strong safety Dawan Landry on the injured reserve today, ending their season according to the AP. The Raven's defense, in particular the secondary has been battling injuries all season. With a big matchup against the Giants this Sunday, they will most definitely be put to the test by Eli and company.

Patriots LB Thomas suffers broken arm...
.......Adalius Thomas was hurt during the second quarter in Sunday's game and it was acknowledged to be an arm injury. The Boston Herald is reporting Thomas suffered a broken forearm and will require surgery that is expected to end his 2008 season. The loss is a big blow to the Pat's defense that has played very well the past several weeks.
