Week 4: On the Cover this Week

It’s Showtime!

With his spectacular arrival to the NFL in 2018 as a starter, remember the former Texas Tech Red Raider sat a whole season on the bench behind Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes is clearly the “Magic-Man” of the NFL.

It seems every week that Mahomes takes the field, he’s setting another passing record or raising the bar for the fantasy quarterback Gold Standard. Last season all he did was pass for over 5,000 yards and throw 50 touchdowns and if that wasn’t enough, he’s on a record pass to do it again this season.

Through the first 3 weeks of the 2019 season, Mahomes is averaging a blistering 398.3 passing yards and 3.3 touchdowns per game. If you project these numbers over the 16 game season, he’s looking at 6,373 passing yards and 53 touchdowns. As well as Mahomes has looked and played this season, it’s really hard to think that he won’t achieve these staggering numbers.

Patrick Mahomes appears to be more than a generational talent, his exceptional talent, skills, and abilities could have him poised to be something of the likes very few have ever seen; like when Broadway Joe passed for 4,000 yards in 1967, when Dan Marino threw for 5,000 yards and 48 touchdowns in 1984, and when Peyton Manning shattered all records (5,477 yards passing and 55 touchdowns). It’s not enough to imagine Mahomes being mentioned in the same breath as these three Hall-of-Famers, but to add that he has and could surpass all three is completely astounding.

When you think about Mahomes with his big arm, his no-look pass, and the incredible numbers he is accumulating in his young career, you just know for this Magician, every Sunday is Showtime!

That’s My Take
